100-year-old dirty soy sauce factory ordered shut
April 8, 2016

Inspection of premises reveals cat, rat and cockroach droppings on factory floor used for processing soy sauce, says Penang City Council.

Ong Ah Teong

GEORGE TOWN: Cat, rat and cockroach droppings were found in a soy sauce factory that has been operating for more than 100 years in Jalan C Y Choy here.

The factory has been ordered shut for two weeks from today.

Penang City Council Public Health Standing Committee Chairman Ong Ah Teong said an inspection of the premises revealed cat, rat and cockroach droppings on the factory floor used for processing the soy sauce.

“Subsequently, the state Health Department issued a notice for the owner to stop operations for 14 days to ensure the soy sauce factory is really clean,” he said when contacted here today.

He said the factory was also fined RM100 for emitting thick smoke not in accordance with specifications and for not providing suitable emission equipment.

The city council also issued a two-week notice to the factory operator to change or improve its smoke emission method to avoid causing problems to the residents in the surroundings, he said.

Is it Thin seng sauce factory. They are 100 yrs old and conduct factory tour for tourists lol. Any other 100 yrs old ones in penang?

The best punishment is to publicly name them otherwise all 100 yrs old soya sauce factory will be guilty.

The manufacturing process include filtering and sterilization make the bottled sauce safe so they are not worried about dirty raw material unless they get caught. I prefer big names like lee kum kee. Kikomann taste too different.
