OK forget about the casing thingy let me think about it biggrin.gif

Now how do u find the Voice commander? Most of the time it can't recognised my voice except..goodbye, call xxxx..

For eg when I said Start Mapking, it goes to call xxxx...bugs in the "start" function? hmm.gif

One think really cool is the card reader...been playing wth it & snapping so many name cards liow .......was impressed by the accuracy of the detection (well not all the time...) biggrin.gif rclxms.gif

Interm of satelite accuracy..it is still a mystery to me up to Today....Data collected showed accuracy worst than HP6515 Globallocate chipest but when I plotted on Mapsource or mapedit, Wow a different story...so nice no more track jumping..... hmm.gif hmm.gif

*
The latest Mapking update is as at 26/4/07...seems like no update since then hmm.gif wondering why too... hmm.gif But for Garmin maptiles, they are very current as at 21/6/07..i.e very hot from the oven... rclxms.gif

plus my gf says the map king voice very "gatal"  tongue.gif  compared to garmin.....
*
Yes I tend to prefer Garmin after sometime although w/out 3D....The voice in Mapking can be change 1 -lah... biggrin.gif

uhh garmin cue software is freeware then ? Unlike mapking ?
*
Garmin Que is a proprietary mapping software for Garmin product GPS10 & thus u can download from the link given in the wiki. However, somehow or rather ppl managed to cretae a 3rd party software caled GPS proxy to run Garmin que without buying the hardware.....so practicaly it is free in that sense.....it is still grey area till Today... biggrin.gif

The good things about Garmin Que which Mapking dun hv/ lacking:

1) Very updated free maps from malsingmaps,,,Mapking now no longer updated so frequently..
2) Accuracy of routing is much better
3) More info which mapking dun hv such as Sun & moon function...best time for fishing, Time to destination (mapking hardly see!0 & only coundown)
4) Ability to perform tracking via GPS proxy & contribute the tracklog for mapping purposes...(My weird hobby!)
5) More if u read past posting about the comparison between mapking & Garmin)

However 1 thing that maoking has which garmin lack is the 3D view..... biggrin.gif

quick question > can u have both mapking and Garmin in the same pda ? start either one as and when u like ?
*
Yes u can. u can even have other softwares as well if u wanted...some even install Igo, Miomap, Imap & etc....But always start 1 not 2 together...some said It can be done but I hv not tried...But what for? hmm.gif u will slow down the PDA speed...

Mapking also better cuz the interface is easier to use while driving. in GPS mode, buttons are big, easy to press, and select new destination etc. not like garmin. that one must stop and do it with a stylus.
*
Haha..dif opinion huh... biggrin.gif personal liking anyway... biggrin.gif ...but for sure Mapking can't record the track for mapping purposes which is a no-no to me...

ok danke danke ... installing garmin and etc ...following the malsing wiki stepwise ...  biggrin.gif .  Will be sorry to lose the 3d visuals but i figure that better more accurate mapping better than eye candy....
*
BTW, it is common for 1st timer to received comport error msg while installing GPS proxy & Garmin...so probably to ease ur problem here is the setup for

1) GPS proxy:

GPS Comp port - com 2
Virtual Com port - com 5
Appl com port -com 5
Output com port - com 5

2) Garmin Que com port (Under option >system setup > interface)- com 5

BTW com 5 can be change to another number depending on what u add at the virtual com port level & also at ur P535 GPS hardware setting...basically layman term EXCEPT FOR GPS com port other com port must be the same number.....

put the patched map in garmin folder ..but when start up cannot see it ... but oddly - in the tab (in que) to delete map files - i can see it ...
*
Haha another very common mistake... the map is they only that the current pointer w/out GPS is showing garmin HQ in US..U need to either scroll to M'sia or Start ur GPS to get the map allign to M'sia.

got to see the maps now .. but now que is giving a message no gps detected.

used all the settings like u said

1) GPS proxy:

GPS Comp port - com 2  ( nmea errors if this is on com 5 )
Virtual Com port - com 5
Appl com port -com 5
Output com port - com 5

2) Garmin Que com port (Under option >system setup > interface)- com 5

pening, pening.....
*
BTW, have u link the GPS proxy >Setting & flag the "run ext app after proxy startup" & choose the Garmin que in the folder? & also u need to flag the Black light permanently on...

After this goto start GPS proxy & it will automaticalyy launched Garmin...U cannot launched Garmin directly sure fail...Must on GPS proxy to start Garmin....remembered..GPS proxy run Garmin Que...Garmin Que on it's own will not work unless u buy GArmin Hardware!

garmin insist that no gps is detected ..
*
The baud rate ...check that it is 4800. U suppose to start from GPS proxy & proxy automatically launced Garmin...This provided u link proxy to Garmin..If not chances of error is high...esp u mentioned u hv to start Garmin individually which not suppose to....not easy huh.... biggrin.gif

Keep trying my fren...definitely port error..dun follow wiki (Generic) follow the settiing given...if its works on tester & mine..Should not be a problem wth u....Normal for 1st timer setting up Garmin Que...BTW I almost gave up when I started on my HP6515 last yr... biggrin.gif biggrin.gif It took me almost 4 tries not 1 ay but 2 weeks!! b4 get it running smooth....On P535 setup took me a breeze 1 hr...! biggrin.gif

hmm.....good to hear that you could get it to work.....if not.....you might want to look here.  this is the config i am using:-

http://www.malsingmaps.com/forum/modules.p...er=asc&start=15

posted it in malsingmaps forum....

@ stimix

hey....you still have the gpsproxy shutdown  issue as you mentioned in malsingmaps forum above?
*
Once in a while...I think it is due to my itchy hand tweaking the registry to make the PDA run faster than normal...FYI..I managed to tweaked until it took me only 6S to start-up Garmin after GPS proxy, which I think u all getting about 20S!!

The problem only happened when I used Mapking and then swithed to Gps Proxy/Garmin...Once Garmin startup, proxy automatically shut down!! & I hv to soft reset b4 I can run it again...Well this only happened once in a while...but small price to pay for faster processing... biggrin.gif rclxms.gif

mind sharing what registry changes you made?  notworthy.gif

Haha probably shiok sendiri... biggrin.gif U might be correct bcos Today my Garmin stratup reduced to 20S!! sad.gif ...A day b4 itchy hand go & install wififorum but failed & after uninstalled, Garmin startup becoming slow!! sad.gif

Ok the tweak is here...but do it at ur own risk..as what experienced my me...

Performance tweak

BTW any idea when ASUS going to give the FOC WM6?...HTC oledi announced Today..so hope as promised by ASUS in this link,

Hopefully they will do the same by 2molo... rclxms.gif

Guys,

The car tint i had installed is blocking the GPS signals so now i cant get any signal within the car.

Any work around this? maybe e.g. re-radiating unit or external antenna?

Pls pls pls tell me there's a workaround...if not...sigh.
*
Are u using vcool? If yes u need an ext ant...try PC Mobile. There is no other work around unless u want to switch from Vcool to other not so heavily metalised tinted film...

BTW, just abit question..I try hard reset the unit Yesterday by pressing the Power & soft reste key simultaneously..but it failed hmm.gif hmm.gif ...Check the quick guide but could not find anything about Hard reset...(Or me overlook somewhere?)
Frustrated, I just restore my old SPBbackup & atlast...got back my 6S startup time on Garmin rclxms.gif ..So actually how to hard reset ha? blush.gif blush.gif

hehhh it would seem that the better tints eg vcool does really block out more of the sun UV and whatever else rays more effectively than other cheaper tints....
*
BTW Vcool do have the lower Infra red penetration film too....can't remember which type..either type 70 or 75... hmm.gif So ppl who dun complain on the satelite receptions are the one using Vcool lower infra red rating of (<90%) & those who complain that Vcool blocked signals are those using 97% ant-infra red film... biggrin.gif

I used Vcool 97% anti IR in my ex-car and damn leceh..everytime going thru Smart & Go pole u have to wind down window & point the tag to the pole...defeit the purpose of having smartag! sad.gif

@ stimix : Sorry if i'm being unclear. The thing is i cant use GPS bcz cant get a fix in my car now since i tinted it, i think its called SafeTint or something lidat.

You mentioned that fixing an external antenna would increase satelite reception and accuracy, which is awesome...but what about actually receiving reception based on my situation, where i dont get a fix?
*
Wah safetint having maximum infrared block too hmm.gif Check whether the infra red block spec..if it is >94% chances of getting satelite fix is almost "nil" U really need an ext antenna. No work around procedure*. But b4 this why not u try standing outside the car & try to get fix. If can this mean it is confirm that u hv instaled the >94% Infra red film...which also confirm u got the genuine film also in that sense... rclxms.gif

Check first,,probably system hang cannot be discounted... hmm.gif

* unless u cut a hole at the windscreen & place the GPSr close to this hole....No joke someone done this b4!!! & even if u call PLUS h/way they will advised u to cut the hole too (I called them b4! biggrin.gif )

But like u said, its good also la since it only proves that the tint blocks a lot of rays IN and OUT of the car  sweat.gif

Btw, do u happen to have an ext antenna for P535? May I experiment it with yours to see if I should be purchasing it? pls pls pls?  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif
*
Yes I hv with me but not directly hooked up to P535. It is actaully an ext antenna connected to a re-radiating unit which I bot frm PC Mobile.

Although Asus oledi responded that the socket is mmcx standard but I doubt so bcos my fren D810 socket which is mmcx so much diff from mine!!

U can try it out if u wnat probably a small TT somewhere around Puchong or Tesco...this few days..I'm free Tonite, Wed & Thurs nites... biggrin.gif BTW, the cabling wth ext antenna will definetely very messy....

Ok, i must at least hv a feel of having an ext antenna in the car and then decide whether ext ant or lobang.  nod.gif How can i contact u eh?

Thank you in advance! Btw, u also play play with the 9db external laptop wifi antenna?

Wah u still can remember I bot the 9db antenna huh..Too bad the pig tail connector putus & I dun use anymore..the signal w/out the antenna is sufficient oledi unless u want to curi other ppl line... blush.gif

Added on July 3, 2007, 4:30 pmJust saw one seller in lelong.com selling gps ext antenna.. dirt cheap too at RM38!..check it out ext antenna advertised in lelong.com
