How long have you been on SS?

I technically kinda agree with what the peeps in SS forums are saying actually. SS is already a novice workout program and its proven. why modify it? if you're worried about powercleans, then just lift the bar without plates. and if you can't do it with the empty bar, find an ez curl bar and do it.

If you still prefer to do rows and good mornings, why not try Stronglift instead? that's a good alternative to SS.

Some people just ditch the power clean for row and doing fine. But I strongly advice u to avoid good morning. It is incredible difficult to get the form right especially for novice and you might possible end up hurting yourself. I rather switch the back extension to stiff leg deadlift with really light weight and focusing on form.

I prefer SS over SL to be honest solely because less sets, less volume, more strength gain in my opinion.

As for Power Clean, I guess I will switch it up to Row after 2-3 weeks when my recovery is slow. For Back Extension, is there any other alternative other than Stiff Leg Deadlift?

either lie facing down on a bench and someone holding your leg, or get a yoga ball and lock your feet under bench and do hyperextension. There isn't much lower back isolation u can do other than hyperextension.

Should I just go for SL instead of SS for the sake of simplicity? What are the cons of SL?

TS, what are your goals? IMHO, one should never change any of the training variables especially on a proven training method unless one is an expert.

Is this why SL sucks? https://www.reddit.com/r/Fitness/comments/1...tronglifts_5x5/

When researching beginner programs, often recommended newbie programs are either SS or SL. Is SL too brutal or too easy?

Done some research, found out that these beginner strength programs get you strength, yes, but muscle definition not so much. You do get big but the muscle sizes do not seem apparent as compared to when you're doing higher ratio of isolations versus compounds.

What are your take on this statement lads?

Do both then

You want strength, do low volume, high intensity,

You want hypertrophy, do slightly higher volume with slightly lower intensity.

You want both, do both, but as naturals, dont expect to get maximum result.
But as a beginner, just follow the damn programe and you will gain strength AND size.(if u eat right)

Both have its place, depends on your priority, do you want to be strength athlete or a body builder?

Strength Training = strength comes first, size comes second.

Hypertrophy Training = size comes first, strength comes second.

Either way you'll get both if diet in check.

Definitely, Mark Rippetoe >>>>> Mehdi.

Cee74y

I think it's good for beginners to gain a bit of amount strength 1st and learn the art of proper forms. When you have gain decent amount of strength, you could move on to powerbuilding workout (for example, PHAT by Dr. Layne Norton) if you wish

Look at this guy's progress. nod.gif

Thanks lads.

@ah_suknat I love your signature. Kinda hit me with recent events.

@Amedion Caloric excess all the way.

@Miracles Beastly transformation indeed. That certainly did inspire me.

Also came across this, good read. http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=122509811
