So my PSV 1K decided to not turn on today. Plug in the charger also no light. Is it the battery kaput already or something else?

Yes. PSVita cannot power on without a battery, unlike the PSP with battery removed which can run when connected to its power adapter.
For a PSVita battery that has been drained without any charge left for a long time. the orange light does not appear immediately as soon as you connect the charger.
You have to wait for 30 seconds to 1 minute before the orange charging light appears in this situation.

However, PSVita 1k also need to be connected to its original charger or a compatible USB power output which has a specific wiring configuration as not all USB power adapters will work with PSVita 1k.

For these kinds of incompatible USB chargers, you will need a special USB port adapter to use with PSVita 1k such as the PISEN PSVita USB adapter which I use & confirmed it does work.
