I wanted to have this poll because i've been facing graphic tearing problems, and i've read that so many other people have had it too. Some of the reasons given were...
- not enough cooling for system
- not enough cooling for power brick
- issue with the game itself

It would also help if you guys listed down what games teared and what games didn't.

I've personally got quite many tears while playing GoW. The cooler the air around me is, the less tearing I see...which brings me to believe that it is directly related to heat.

Tearing happen because some game developer don't use V-Sync on their game. It's not because of hardware failure.

That might be true...but it seems that computers don't face tearing issues due to lack of VSync, at least not in my experience of playing games, so why should this machine face that problem?

** oh nevermind...I just read the article. guess i'll have to try out my xbox on a VGA cable or something first to verify if its a heat problem **

I use VGA and there's a lot of tearing.

Seems to be a common "problem," too ... e.g. this article:

in blue dragon, u can differentiate between prerendered CGI vs real time cutscenes by looking for screen-tearing

some developers try to aim for healthy framerates, so they sacrifice screen tearing

REALLY?! OMG...nuUU! Screen tearing suxorz. >_<

Wah...some ppl NEVER have screen tearing. Either they have a really cold room...or they never play...

can u define this graphic tearing u r experiencing here? is it artifacts / missing, incorrect textures...

most ppl either dont recognize screen-tearing or not bothered by it at all when it happens not really a glitch, more like a side-effect.

i rmb dead rising or [eM] having 0 screen-tearing instances. depends on the game.

which game has screen tearing?

i tried on LCD with VGA cable so far didnt notice much screen tearing..
but i remember there was aweful screen tearing when running LOST PLANET demo on another flat screen Monitor..

Can someone explain what is screen tearing? It will be much better if a sample picture is provided.

edit: issit like when u play GoW, when the round starts, u can see the player model is all smooth n shiny, then after few seconds, all the "proper stuff" appear. "proper stuff" = the pixels on the vest n stuff

That's not screen tearing. It happens because the game takes few seconds to properly loads the game's textures. I assume this happens because it needs to load the textures from the game's disc compared to the speedy hard drive.

mmm.. using conventional tv here.. didnt experience any tearing b4.. **touch wood**

same to me, using with plano 100hz on component. never seen screen tearing one. btw my brick is on the floor marble.

for me, it's nothing major. happened to me in a GoW cutscene; the helicopter ride after escaping the prison.. and in Quake 4 opening when u start a new game, when the dropship approaches the planet. these are the ones i remember, there are others but mostly happen during cutscenes.

happened in NFS Carbon too, one of the canyon drift tracks, but i think this is because the game is lagging...

Hrmm...then the question still remains...why do some people experience it, and some don't?

On a sidenote...a little update on my tearing effects. I only see it in GoW and Oblivion so far. Its very minimal in Oblivion. GoW still tears all over the place during cutscenes.

If its due to VSYNC, why couldn't the gamedev's just turn on VSYNC based on the type of video output you're using? And then there are some people who play on SDTV's and DON'T get tearing. Umm...so what was that all about VSYNC and tearing?

Either ur disc game or ur 360 got problem...GoW do have glitches in some area..

haha, dude i play on china tv using 480i only. i get lots of screen-tearing in blue dragon. since this topic started, i play around with [eM] rotating camera, and i manage to tear the screen also. LoL.

again, the reason why some developers/programmers dont prioritize V-SYNC is because of framerates and also because majority of gamers dont care or complain abt it. i doubt u'll see a game review where they rate the game down cos it have screen-tearing try ur best to live with it and not let it spoil ur game enjoyment, ok?

another thing i read from the web, saints row initially have lost of screen-tear. ( i havn't tried the demo or the disc), but they developers release a patch that reduces screen-tear after a few weeks. maybe u can ask saint rows owners if that was true.
