yes bro. just saw it. haha too many replies. well thanks!!
i think i get it.

so take for example, if i saw a lens with 10-22 with 1:8.5 - 12.5 means that the aperture outside the [  ] was 8.5(while with 11mm) & 12.5 with 22 mm lo.
*
What do you mean "outside the [ ]" ? smile.gif

The aperture applies to everything on the frame.

I tried f/8 and f/11 before, results are same, people standing on both side will blurred. (i got alot focus point tho..)
well but thanks with the info, i will shoot more with f/8-11 next time.
The only things that i havent try out is, let the group people stand inside [  ] range, since the focus point will be only inside that [ ], but if that so, what use of wide lens sad.gif
btw how to see the max sharpness on the lens?
Yes, i mostly do the 10mm shooting standing close to center for group shoot (since the area wasnt big, so i have to stand close).. so does that mean 10-22mm 1:3.5-4.5 means that for the 10mm the max aperture outside the frame is only 3.5? and so 22mm max is only 4.5?
*
Firstly wide angle is just wide angle and mostly used for landscape not for group shot. The closer the subject you are focusing in, the blurrier the background. Google the term bokeh or depth of field (dof).

And yes f3.5 max at 10mm and f4.5 at 22mm. Just check the aperture info on your camera display when you zoom in/out. The lower the f number (which means larger aperture, yes confusing) does not mean you take sharp image. You need to study the effect of aperture control vs dof yourself cause it can be exhaustive to explain.

For now just use the tele end, 22mm and stand further back at f8.0, make sure your hand steady or use tripod before shoot.

Widest 4.5 at 22mm.

You stop it down to f/8 - f/11 to get the best out of the lens at that range.

This means overall improvement in image quality.

Sent my 50L for service.
There is a back focus issue.
Got it back and checked... Problem persist.

As usual, they tried the stop down and it'll be find trick.
But lol. I didn't get that lens to use at f/4.

Knowing the notoriety of this lens with back focus.... I don't think they can fix it at all.

Update :
canon service centre manage to fix it.
After heading there twice, they've managed to get the focus back on track. Kudos to the service engineer whom I heard worked on it for several hours.
Total turn around time was 3 working days and cost less than rm200. I'm a cps member but I don't think this has anything to do with it.

I've been using this lens for over 3 years.
It got this bad when my friend dropped it. I believe I kinda know what happened. Some of the elements are shifted inside. This lens has very tight tolerance to correct aberrations. You get a shit lot of spherical aberration when it's misaligned and the same aberration will cause the lens to backfocus.

Just have to fix it the best they can. It's not an easy task, but we will see.
I'm using it for videos mainly so it's not that bad.
Just that now it has no resale value and the sharpness might be affected too.

Yeap.
Really happy with what they have done.
They don't charge for inspection too. I think Nikon does.

Definitely went the extra mile to fix it for me.

For regular servicing. Cps members get like 30% off I think.
However for AF adjustment, the price is the same.
