mine is actually AP, didn't want to send it for 3rd party repair as i thought it was an expensive lens so i didnt want to take the risk. Also first time I hear that half the image is out of focus.
it happens when the elements are not aligned perfectly and you can't get rid of it even at f8 or so (the difference in DOF is simply too much).
lets say the lens should be focusing on a distance of 3 meters away, and the left portion of the image is somehow focused on the 2.8m and the right portion of the image is focused on 3.2m. super annoying when you are shooting any group photos or landscapes.
