I have always been an Enrich frequent flyer but since last year began accumulating KF miles. What is your experience with regards to the waitlist? When do you get confirmation the seats are secured? Difficult to plan travel when you don't even know if the tickets are secured...

I just redeemed a whole bunch of KF miles for a trip to Europe last week. Availability TBH is touch and go and it depends on which routes you're flying to. SQ releases award seats for booking 355 days from departure. For popular routes and on business class, u need to book either way ahead or last minute. also, the day of flight plays a big role for availability. For example, i booked from KUL - SIN - ZHR, and i found available seats on Tuesday and Thursdays for the few weeks at the end of March and early April. I also think for far ahead booking >7 or 8 months, SQ releases only 2 J class award ticket for booking because after i booked my seats, the next J booking became under waitlist. Closer to flight date, if seats are not sold, SQ will release the seats for award booking hence waitlist would be cleared. I'd advice to keep trying different dates and flight combination. Sometimes, if you search KUL - LHR, the flight might show up as waitlist, but if you search SIN - LHR, the flight may be available. This is due to insufficient award space for the KUL - SIN sector which is hard to get. If that's the case, it's easier to just buy a air asia ticket to hop over to SIN to catch the outbound flight. Once you have the dates down, if you're booking multicity booking, call their call center to get them to piece together the sectors under one ticket for easier management. I'd say their call center is top notch if you have all the details down. Total took me like 15 mins to settle all the booking... My previous experience with Enrich took me almost 45 mins and after multiple calls to make one booking.
Playing the miles game is all about flexibility and persistence. So far after redeeming Enrich, Asia Miles and Krisflyer, i find Krisflyer is the most straight forward and easier to find seat as compared to CX. Not to mention the cash outlay is also cheaper as there's no more surcharge on SQ metal. Looking forward to try the new A380 and singapore hospitality too.
