Crap, I accidentally introduce swirls mark while claying my car hood. Question, does polishing (Meguairs Ultimate Polish) with blue pad using DA polisher able to do these correction? If possible, I don't want to go for compounding.
Swirls probably due to using cheap clay bar. ๐Ÿฅฒ

For consumer grade ultimate compound, 80% swirl gone is consider good already. The reason is it has lesser cut compare to pro grade given the same form pad. Oh, you wanted swirl free then good luck to you to try it. Microfiber pad is more cutting than form pad but you also need to think your compound solution has enough cut or not.
My car 5.5years old, start detailing when brand new. I gave up swirl free when I noticed it is impossible in Malaysia. At a very spefic angle with lighting, you can see some swirl mark. At a glance watching video below, you can't see it.

pretty handsome condition for a 5.5years old car smile.gif

During this CNY holidays, I was started my polishing project plan. The car that I picked today is a 10 years old silver color Mitsubishi ASX.

I am just a beginner, never do polishing before. This is my first time to handle a random orbital DA polisher. I don't have any experience, just watch tons of videos from Youtube then do research myself.
Before I start to polish, I was ever worried about to get burnt the car clear coat.

Time to complete: 15 hours.
Day 1, consumed 5 hours
Day 2, consumed 10 hours.

Before begin to polish this car, of course have to wash this car first. The first day I was woke up 5am in morning and get prepared to wash this car. First to spray iron remover on the whole car body. After rinse off, then begin to do pre-wash. The product that I use is CarPro Lift, 1:10 dilution to a 1 liter foam lance.

After 10 minutes then rinse off the car. The next step was washing this car with car shampoo. The product that I used is CarPro reset. Pour 40ml of shampoo to a 20 liter size bucket.

After done with 2 buckets washing method, now begin to clean the body surface with clay bar. I am using Soft99 smooth egg clay bar in the combination with clay lube. I am using ONR 1:64 dilution as clay lube.

Done everything, now dry off the car with microfiber drying towel and get ready to polish the car bonnet and the two side mirrors. I am using CarPro Eraser as my IPA panel wipes after done polish. Then immediately wax the panel with Turtle Wax Ceramic+Graphene paste wax.

Day 1 complete, took 5 hours. I have to go out to lunch with my family, so the project will continue in the next day.

Day 2, I wake up at 7am morning. Then continue my polishing project plan. I am using medium cut polishing pad with Cartec 9000 and finishing polish pad with Cartec 12000. Some scratches area have to use Cartec 5000 with heavy cut polishing pad. The process took me 15 hours to complete, from 7am to 1pm. Then took a rest and took a bath. After 2pm then continue to do polish until 6pm. Finally done polish the whole car.

The final results is not 100% perfect, I still can see light swirls in some areas but at least all the swirls get lighten.

Here is the final result

is the trim made from plastic or the same material as the body panels?

if it's the same as the body panels then you can get rid of the scuff marks with some light polishing but if it was made from plastic (usually very soft plastics) then polishing will very likely introduce more scuff marks on the surface (more harm than good).

there's a simple and hassle free fix for you, go get it wrapped up. it won't cost you a lot for that small part.

not sure is it plastic, maybe just something chrome on it

The car detailing industry is constantly changing and evolving. Even sometimes I'm not quite sure what's based on real science and what's not. There are some detailers who believe that the hydrophobics property does not truly indicate if the protection layer is still there or not. But without the hydrophobic property I'm not sure how will you verify if anything is still on your car. And usually the current standard is to see water bead on top of your car. However some detailers are now saying that beading is bad because it causes watermarks.. so there are products right now that won't cause water beading but instead causes the water to sheet. But water sheeting looks like a weaker behavouir of beading so.... *shrugs*    doh.gif  doh.gif (no longer know what to believe.. also one of the reason I refuse to pay so much to shops)
*
is that really depend on product we apply?
example real world scenario
water beading - if small rainy day (cause watermark, due to dust trap in the droplet and then dry under sun)
and
water sheeting - if heavy rainy day (less likely watermark, dust being flush away by heavy rain)

not sure my understanding correct or not.

I guess many of us here, do use it. Are you planning to get one or having any issues?
*
planning to get one, so the maintenance step is spray > rinse > wipe off with drying towel?

i abit skeptic on the spray > rinse process, that will not accidentally remove the product from the car?

After shampoo wash, I leave the car wet, and then spray on, and then wipe it off, normally there is light misty residue, so use another cloth to wipe it off.

It works well.  biggrin.gif

car wet, then spray on and wipe off?

hmm, i see some youtube review saying after spray need rinse to activate ceramic wax (for me, it looks like dilute the product or remove the product sweat.gif )
