Ok la, life and responsibilities come first.
I'm guilty of spraying water on my car to remove bird poo and didn't even bother to clean or dry it.

Rather get waterspots than etching from bird poo.

Usually if I have time, after rain (assuming I just finish washing my car) I will just hose it down again and use onr to perform rinseless wash.
*
Lol, same, guilty of hosing bird poo without wiping dry. I dont have ONR, so dont even hose down car after rain. Think I like accumulating dirt on my car before washing, more satisfying after washing a dirty car.

Hello LYN forumers,

I've tried using the keyword search function but nothing relevant comes up. Hope my questions are not repetitive.

Any recommended products/wash guides specifically for full body matte wrapped cars? Here are the few pointers I've collected so far:

1) Use non-wax car shampoo (or not waxing the car at all) - Any specific ingredients in the shampoo i should look for to avoid using on matte wraps?or a particular brand or model to use that is readily available?

I have found the following product but would like to see if there are any other (cheaper) alternatives - Meticulous Matte Auto Wash for Satin Finish & Matte Finish Paint (Chemical Guys CWS_995_16)

2) not using pressure washers (not that I have one at home anyways).

3) Avoid (as much as possible) long sun exposure - any "sunscreen" for cars of sorts that i can use safely to mitigate this? - guess this applies to all cars in general.

Any other matte wrapped car owners are more than welcome to add on to guide me through the process. Like, what car shampoo you are using, or any other products you apply after washing. Much appreciated.

Just wrapped my car and would like to prolong its lifetime as much as I can.

Thanks in advance for your time and replies!
*
Hmm, while I am not expert in matte wrapped cars and have no experience in it whatsoever, my basic understanding of matte cars is that u wash with any regular car wash soap is fine, just dont use those that is wash and wax combo soap. U may also need to wash more regularly than normal cars due to the fact that if your matte wrap gets any defects like water spots, there is not much u can do. Apart from that, bird poo needs to be cleaned as soon as possible, as its damage to matte cars is quicker than normal painted cars.

Other than that, I wouldnt know if any extra maintenance is required. Again, I am no expert, just sharing knowledge from my old car detailing suppliers.

Anyone staying in a condo with no facility for car wash but still manage to wash the car by ownself? Other than bucket what tools do you use especially to carry the water? Too bad malaysia doesnt have those self service car wash center..
*
Personally I think if u want to wash your own car in condo without car wash bay is to use rinseless wash like ONR. Should be able to settle most your basic wash with 1 bucket.

On side note:

Today I finally found more time to complete my detailing. After leaving car few days, dust collected (also alot of dog hair from neighbour's dog), so had to give a good wipedown before claying the last 1/4 part of the car.

Again still disappointed with TarX, as I noticed alot of tar spots at the back bumper sides that were not removed from last round. Most likely will not use it anymore.

However, since I am short of time to do compound/polish before balik kampung, decided to just seal it with Carpro Reload and Carpro PERL for the trim. Just sharing quick summary of my usage:

Carpro Reload:

1) Super easy to apply, 4-5 squirts on a folded microfiber towel, wipe 1 section, flip and buff off excess. Can feel the car paint pickup the sealant as the initial wipe will feel grip, then as keep rubbing it feels slicker.
2) No streaks in latest formula, but not sure if due to product improvement from previous versions, or my application method.
3) 1 disadvantage against traditional paste wax and wax pad method is it does not have any paint cleaning ability (paste wax tend to have a very fine bit of paint cleaning function).
4) Gloss level definitely looks decent even without polishing.
5) Yet to test durability, so will have to update again next round.

Carpro PERL:

1) Also super easy to apply. Diluted 1:3 (1 part PERL, 3 parts water), sprayed on small microfiber cloth, wipe, and buff excess with another cloth.
2) Definitely gives a much deeper black look for all the plastic trim.
3) Super easy way to apply for tyres also.
4) Yet to test durability also, will update again next round.

Anyways, Happy Chinese New Year to everyone celebrating! And happy holidays to everyone else! Safe journey to those balik kampung!

Hi Sifus,
I have no idea what this stain is.
Cannot remove by polish, wax, i even try vinegar also cant remove.
It is on the surface of clear coat. Can feel roughness.

Any idea how to get rid of it?
*
From a brief look and your description, I think there's 2 possibilities:

1) Etching of some sort (possibly due to acid)
2) Clearcoat damage

On how to remove, I would suggest try claying, then follow up with wetsanding with 2000 grit to 3000 grit sandpaper, then follow up with compounding and polishing. Since the spot is small, doing compounding and polishing by hand shouldnt be a problem.

QUOTE(N33d @ Feb 14 2018, 11:03 AM)
wow.. a lot of info from your mini review
tarx was in my shopping list previously, after reading what your feedback, i felt lucky i did not buy it lol(Thanks to my procrastination tongue.gif). currently, Optimum power clean play that role quite well. Able to get most of those nasty things out my paint if I play with the dilution.
The downside is my body is super sensitive/allergic to the active ingredient, even 1:9 dilution will cause my skin and fingers to itch if i accidentally came into contact with it.
It also causes me to have flu-like symptoms if i use it too much. I have no issue with cheaper degreaser/APC.. just this

I see those westerners use it without any protection and still seems not to be affected by it.

carpro perl got a lot of good feedback but decided to test something else so got myself lexol vinylex from parkson for 50 bucks. so far so good, darken my trim, lasted 3 weeks and still going! If it could hold up for 2 months, i could not be happier lol

Lastly,
Happy CNY/Holiday to you and fellow detailers in lyn!
*
Erm, honestly I would suggest that u dont use any chemical that causes allergic reaction from your body. Allergic reactions can have fatal consequences. There are plenty of products that can do similar work, dont risk your health for 1 product. Just my 2 sen.

could be stain from unwashed soap? Ya, looks like clear coat damage. I try hard using finger nail to remove but totally could not budge in.

Can wetsand by hand?

Thanks for the advice ya
*
Mmm, as far as I know soap shouldnt have the ability to eat into your paintwork until u can feel rough texture, so clearcoat damage could have come from other causes. Generally its hard to gauge what caused it, but since considering u mentioned that it has a rough texture, then trying to level the texture with wetsanding would be a good idea to start.

Please do find videos on youtube on how to wetsand a car before starting. Also always have the finest grit sandpaper u can find, preferably 2000 to 3000 grit. Wetsanding by hand is also the most convenient and cheapest way to go, no need to buy machine for this purpose.

Just my 2 sen.

The result is stil good after a year of taking care , 6 month top up fusso coat once , so it mean my car is time to sending for servicing too haha , next year only re-polish whole car
*
Car looking great! Actually if just small spot and seems annoying to u, then just just put a drop of polish on microfiber towel and polish the spot off. Else can collect more then one time do all. smile.gif

I polish at least 3 times per year, usually more. No issue one...clear coat not made of taufu.

Either with an aio to clean paintwork up or with a mild polish to correct some swirls from washing. Usually 3 months once I will aio when it becomes dull
*
Wah! 3 times a year! When I think about the prep work just to do 1 time also the brain already thinking too much work, lol.

But it is true that clearcoat isnt as soft or thin or fragile as many may think. If not mistaken I remember the guy from Forensics Detailing Channel in youtube got mention before that he measured per polish only removes 0.01 micron of clearcoat, so it is generally safe.

i am big fan of this guy

i am kinda geeky type of guy and his channel is the only channel that able to scratch my itch about more objective approach rather than traditionally subjective approach when reviewing car care products. When i saw him reviewed the polishes with gloss meter and flat black panel, i was like damn! i am waiting for someone to do this since ages!!
*
Yup, this guy tries to go into more technical (even though sometimes when hit chemical explanation part he abit kelam kabut). Overall he gives very good reviews, just that his videos is generally more talk, not so much of demo technique.

I generally follow AMMO NYC for technique, Forensic Detailing Channel for technical and product reviews, and Dallas Auto Detailing for alternative detailing ideas.

My car color is Lunar Silver (Honda's Silver)... I noticed swirls on my boot when viewed under street light (yellow light) but when I use my phone LED... can't see the swirls... why is it like this? I thought LED should be able to view better?
*
From my experience and research, generally yellowish type lights (generally known as warm white) can show swirls better on lighter color cars (white, silver), and white lights (generally known as cool white) tend to show swirls better on dark/black cars. The difference in the light temperature (the yellowness or whiteness of light) will show swirls differently depending on your car color. Street lights are generally warm white category, and your phone torch light should be in the cool white category.

The overall ideal light for inspecting paint defects is neutral white color lights, which commonly is sunlight equivalent type of light. Sun guns are what some pro detailers like to use when doing such inspection because they use bulbs that somewhat emulate sun type of light temperature.

I have the same car color as u have, so I use a strong warm white torchlight (powered by 18650 battery) for defect inspection.

But for my case its comparing between my phone LED (I think is "white") versus street lamp (yellow), so that is due to intensity or was it more on the color temperature?
The street light I refer to looks very yellow to me though, I think about 3000K type compared to 4200K of the warm white. What sort of torchlight are you using? Maybe I should grab a better torch... more powerful one that my phone's LED.
*
I would say its still due color temperature. Intensity wise your street lamp is far away even though strong light, your phone LED is very close even though much weaker light.

Here are my torchlight arsenal:
Attached Image

This is a comparison of the lights:
Attached Image

This is my version of Sun gun:
Attached Image
Attached Image

Sun gun uses Solux bulb (google DIY Sun gun to get the specs of the bulb), with 4x 18650, its too bright so cant really catch a right photo for comparison.

These are the links to the torchlights I bought and where I bought them:
https://www.fasttech.com/products/2139702
https://www.fasttech.com/products/4251200
https://www.fasttech.com/products/1319201
https://www.fasttech.com/products/1319303

The AA torchlights are only good to use if u have poorer lighting conditions or the day is generally cloudy. Else the 18650 versions work better.

Sorry if this is abit nerdy, I generally do post-polish inspection with few lights just to confirm removal was complete as sometimes one light can deceive.

If its a daily use car, its mission impossible to be 100% swirl free. My advice is 'accept' the x amount of swirl created by sand and dust while travelling + improve your washing and drying skill to minimize the worsen of swirl...

My take is , if you really swirl free freak and keep wanna polish after wax etc....your cc will be gone few years or its WORST if you think you a 'great' in machine polishing, your CC is going to gone even faster.

Personally after so many years into this hobby (hope am still passionate about it), my take is keep the surface clean/shine based on your preference but most importantly there is PROTECTION ...beading and sheeting is the goal.

Want really gloss - cut the CC and remove all the orange peel. With our climate, you are gonna repaint your car very soon...

IMHO la...

PS : Do agreed, yellow light have better reflection on swirl ...make your life and ease of maintenance easier...
*
Lol, think your reply is to another post, yes? I was just answering to the question regarding light temperature.

But I do agree with u, swirls are generally hard to avoid even with the best of care techniques. We must learn to close one eye and accept that so long as car is clean and regularly protected, we will have less work ahead of us when we do a full paint correction work.

In my case I am somewhat a defect collector. I let my car collect enough defects until one point where I have the time and drive to do a complete compound/polish/protect. I even have cat scratch marks on my bonnet that I have yet to do much about. Hehehe...

Anyway n33d , the HD SPEED AIO available in malaysia? i remember u share to me before , but the price quite expensive in here , seen like HD speed have very good review on remove wash swirl and leave nice finishing , but if after i AIO can i stil using my own wax like fusso coat 12? Or i need to IPA first before apply fusso coat
*
Yup, cuz the only way to keep a car in flawless condition is not to drive it, and that is as good as not owning a car. As long as our cars are daily drivers, like it or not some defects will come eventually. We can only do our best to minimize creating defects when washing and all that, but it eventually accumulates anyway. Close 1 eye lor, as long as generally clean and protected, then its good enough.

On the flipside also, if u like to keep polishing your car, no worries also. If polish until end up clearcoat gone, worst case just respray. Not the end of the world. Most important is learn to experiment, learn what works best for u, and learn from experience.

Agree with g88 on this. This bucket commonly get when ppl doing renovation, they buy paint and comes in this type of bucket. If u have friends or relatives that are renovating house, then can ask them.

Only issue is cleaning all the residue, but otherwise its free. However, if the bucket was used to mix cement, then my advice is dont take, because cement usually harden in the bucket.

Mmm, not bashing the service provider, but those things that is written “cleaning” and vacuum I would suspect is actually part of a typical car wash procedure, so advertising them as though they are separate are kinda marketing gimmick more than actual value to me. Perhaps only the clay/polish/wax and nano mist carries more value beyond a typical car wash.

Personal opinion, maybe u can go to their shop and see their service quality before committing to these packages.

Hi guys, cny has passed and i think it is about time we should move forward with the "teh tarik" session.

I have managed to convince Henry to allow us to use some space in his detailing hall to support the almost forgotten community in low yat forum. LOL. So good news! He agreed to let us use his hall, tools, products, bonnets and product for our sharing/teh tarik session.

We won't be restricted in whatsoever way except the time agreed upon. We are free to do whatever we like during the allocated time slot. (of course keeping everything in tact)

I suggest we use this opportunity to share our knowledge, especially forumites that are keen in detailing or wanting to discover different ideas.

here are some details we can run during the session:

Topics on: Washing tricks and tips, polishing with da/rotary, troubleshoot tryouts, testing of various products.

depending on who would be keen in joining, we will plan on the topics as we progress. So if most attending would like to know more about polishing techniques or to even try out, we will focus on that. Alternatively, feel free to suggest on what subject should be covered. Everyone can share.

We will also have to decide a time and date. I suggest :

24th of March 2018 (sat) or 7th of April 22018 (sat)

Let me know what you guys think
*
Just to clarify, Henry is Osren. During teh tarik session are we allowed to talk about other brands products?
