How much pay would be worthwhile to work in China then? biggrin.gif

Other than Shenzhen, would you consider Shanghai or Beijing as these two cities are tier one cities?

For a person earning around rm 3k in Malaysia, I would not settle for anything less than 15k rmb if I am working in shanghai or Beijing

Is RMB15k sufficient to survive in Shanghai or Beijing taking into consideration of the expensive accommodation costs?

Rental in shanghai is about 4-5k rmb for a 1br apartment in pudong and about 6-8k nearer to city center in puxi. So 15k should be enough.

30-50% of the salary to be spent on the rental. Quite significant spending.

I'll be working in China pretty soon, I'm joining an MNC, because the Regional office heavily recommended me when they got to know I am available in the job market. I will be taking care of 3 location, Guangzhou, Haikou and Shanghai but Shanghai is not really at Shanghai..rather it is at an Industrial area called Jiashan (Zhejiang) so I will be base there and travel often.

I have not live and work in Shanghai or Beijing thus I couldn't compare really.
I really like Shenzhen anyway. It's young, clean, organized, and growing very fast!
What I said might not be true for the whole SZ but it sure is for SZ CBD.

Personal opinion, monetary-wise, it's only worthwhile to go work overseas if you get to keep at least double what you get locally.
Triple or more sure better la. tongue.gif
But if you are aiming for experience and exposure, then it's your choice... Just make sure you ain't short-changed.

OH and just FYI, no point hiding my salary and how I spend it.
So it goes like this:

(RMB)
Salary = 5,000

Rent + Electric + Utlity + Internet = 900
Transport Card = 100
Call and Data Plan (1GB) = 30
Food = 60/day = 1,800
Toiletries = 100
Hair cut = 30
Shopping = 500

Total = 3,460

Balance (Saving) = 1,540 which is approx. MYR970

Of course, this is just based on my 5K salary. Thing is, with 5K RMB salary, I am able to save RM970 a month. You can definitely stretch that based on your lifestyle. Some of my friends who earn RM4K don't even save RM500 per month.

Thanks for sharing. Actually that is the part that most of us are interested haha

Let me contribute to my experience working in China for almost 1 year.
Allowance:
Allowance = RMB13000/mth
Accommodation = Provided by company. Includes utilities, internet.
Transport allowance = RMB1000/mth
Flying back to home country = Free every quarter
Winter clothing allowance = RMB5000 one time off
One time settling allowance = RMB5000 one time off
Visa = Provided by company

Expenditure:
Food = Lunch provided by company. In fact if i wanted to, I can have my breakfast, lunch & dinner in company. Otherwise breakfast is about RMB20/day. Dinner ~ RMB50/day. Total for 1 month = RMB2100 ~ 3000
Phone bill = RMB150/mth
Misc = RMB 2000 ~ 4000 (for shopping & travel within China)

All this without touching my basic salary at home.
