Welcome to the club mate. Congrats collect all of them. Mine still missing Eri-chan.

tbh eri-chan has the least detailing compared to the other two... but she's eri-chan, so had to get her to complete the trio.

I see. This is gonna be a problem tho. I probably gonna have more nsfw figures in the future but this is suck. I found malaysian online website (ToyPanic) for preorder these nsfw figures but you are gonna wait one year from the release date to get the figures. Anyways thanks for the reply.
*
dude, one year? it says 1-2 months from the release date, not 12 months doh.gif

Hi, want to ask if my items are declared as figures, CIF under RM500 and shipped by registered SAL. What are the chances of kena tax?
*
personally, none of my figures kena tahan... whether under or above rm500 (nowadays, most figures + shipping easily more than rm500).

on a separate note, noticed that some of my figures are suffering from colour fade. they're inside the cabinets and not exposed to the sun, at normal room temperatures but still they don't seem to age gracefully. guess i've gotto give up collecting 'em for more sustainable pursuits cry.gif

hey when u have more free time can invest in repairing the figures that have faded i am sure it will be quite fun (maybe can make a career out of it too) biggrin.gif

personal thought stuff that get colored will sooner or later have their color faded maybe wrap in plastic or put in vacuum environment only can prevent it? hmm.gif
might be something I will research when i got bored
*
lol... if i could actually touch up/repair those figures, i'd probably do some makaizou instead brows.gif

if the figures are not aired, i think they get sticky instead? hmm.gif

Well it depends.

I almost pulled the trigger on a CR Mnandi with oak grip on my last trip to the states,  but didnt go thru cause i feel its abit too small for my hands.... that would have set me back around $400  tongue.gif

Edit : I also have a collection of katanas, but more affordable ones.. so around 2~3k each only. Good quality and price for the amount of work/material involved...
*
nah, not into those. more into the more practical carry-ons like the swiss army knives.

back to figures... it's such a pity really. they're gorgeous. guess beauty is fleeting sweat.gif

but i guess ryutaro is right... there's an opportunity right there for those who are able to revitalise dull/discoloured figures.

so true. my swiss army blade has been with me for more than 25 years and i can attest that the blade is still as sharp and zero colour fade/discolouration. besides, no need take up much space. a drawer holds plenty of penknives... and abouts wifey's dagger looks too! rclxs0.gif

but back to figures. whilst i never had any expectation that they'll last as long as my penknives, surely it's fair to expect them to last at least five years, no? was i being overly optimistic? mebbe the figures are not meant for tropical climates? doubt we have sophisticated climate controls for our mancaves, but surely the figures should be able to withstand the humidity behind closed doors and without direct sunlight beaming in, no? sigh... no wonder this thread has been pretty quiet also these days.

u know what u said actually made me try googling for a real answer and I found this due to our nature weather of high humidity I guess that's the REAL reason the paint faded but I do wonder whether fluorescent light or LED light does the same damage as the sunlight hmm.gif

another post to read about protecting our figures...from that I conclude that we need lots of silica gel, plastic zip lock bag and no direct sunlight or heaty room

*
yeah, i know. just didn't think they'd go downhill this quickly. half-minded to keep my prized figures in my drybox, tbh. but we'll see how that pans out...

Yes, Griffon is actually filing for bankruptcy. It was in the news in a post in MFC.

To everyone else, yes, figures don't last. But, the question is how long do they last? Newer figures are quite durable compared to the older ones. I lock up most of my figures in their boxes, and they never get sticky. I believe they can last at least 10 years easily, possibly even longer.

Scale figures. Nendos and figmas tend to have this problem but I have not seen it happen to any scales I own. I've been collecting for 8 years, and I still have 2 or 3 figures that came out 10 years ago in 2008. I also don't expose the figures to UV radiation over prolonged periods (like, several months to years) - that includes fluorescent lights. Though, I no longer have those fluorescent tubes in my home; every lamp is replaced with down lights or LEDs, since they are more energy efficient. Figures that i dont have a box, I keep them in a closed wooden cabinet. No light gets in. I don't have space for detolfs at my home.

I'm lucky in a sense that I focus on photography, so, I don't aim for large figure collections, so I get rid of some of my older figures by selling before they become "expired" except my favorites. There are also those that i will get rid of, selling them in MIB condition not long after I photograph it.
*
they last longer in boxes? i thought the plasticiser effect meant that the figures should be allowed to 'breathe' instead of being kept in their boxes? hmm.gif i've got quite a fair bit still in their boxes simply because they're pg-rated sweat.gif

i notice the sticky phenomenon on my lechery figures. to be fair, lechery's glossy finish kinda put me on alert from day one tbh. and in case my general statement is taken sweepingly, no, my skytubes/alphamax (or in fact my figures from other makers - native, gsc, dragon, alter, koto and max) do not suffer from stickiness. what i did notice was my seraphim sakuya (koto) suffered from paint fade - the pink ribbon around her ankles have turned transparent. that kinda got me paranoid and made me suspect that my other figures were suffering from a similar fate also (albeit ever so slightly). but i'm wondering whether it's my paranoia that makes me 'see' the paint fade when there's none.

admittedly, i'm not as diligent when it comes to completely cutting off the uv's. granted the windows to my study are heavily tinted, and the figures are behind glass doors in the display cabinet, my guess is stray can still reach those figures. perhaps that's it. will probably mode them into the av room instead. the other pg-rated figures are behind closed doors (without glass) and they seem to be ok. thanks for the feedback, exkurogane.

Fading paint is definitely caused by UV radiation. I also have gold plated gundam kits which are now 10 years old and still shiny bling bling while my friends' have faded. The difference was i hid the kit in a closed wooden cabinet. Meanwhile white colors and skin areas might turn a bit yellow from radiation. Yes, you should not lock your figures up in box for long periods, but i open my figure boxes only once or twice a year just to air out the "trapped air" in it, and the figures are completely fine.

Quality of the figure - both in material composition and paint type, will also affect the longetivity of the figure. Lechery and Kotobukiya aren't known to make quality figures. Until today, after 8 years of collecting, I only have 2 or 3 koto figures, many others I sold them after photographing them.
*
thanks for the tip, exkurogane. yeah, i don't see what else could've caused the fading. the ambient light would've taken its toll. and yes, even from the outset you can discern that lechery's stuff doesn't have the quality associated with other manus. koto, on the other hand... well, didn't think they were that bad, tbh. oh well, expensive lesson right there sweat.gif

Even if they declare only 4000yen, kastam would not suspect anything, unless your parcel size is huge because you combine shipped many stuff.
Figures that cost below RM200 do exist. Bootlegs.  tongue.gif That's why they won't suspect much even if value was relatively low.
*
amiami is guilty of that... huge boxes filled with crumpled paper. the size difference between their medium and large boxes is huge. i've never seen nippon yasan do that.

haven't had my figures detained by customs, although some other stuff kena before. most of the time they wanna check the invoice and almost always, kena pay tax plus documentation fee etc. big boxes are usually targeted regardless of value. as far as i can tell, it's pretty random.

Ya pretty unlucky this time  sad.gif  Usually you go to kastam office and handle it yourself?
*
well, it depends. i initially used pos malaysia's clearance service (for reasons stated by metoo), but then i found them charging for delivery thereafter somewhat unreasonable since they were meant to deliver the parcels anyway. i used to drop by on saturdays and the process isn't too difficult really (you've got to alternate between counters but they're easy to navigate once you're familiar with the process)... but yeah, the waiting can test your patience somewhat. besides, there are instances when pos malaysia do not offer the clearance service, and you don't really have a choice but to go there personally. the former cases are where it's a matter of settling the taxes whereas the latter is where your items are borderline prohibited (what is prohibited can be rather arbitrary though). if it's available and you wanna avoid all the hassle, then just pay pos malaysia, as metoo suggested...

here's the thing... i hardly use fedex/dhl (they're generally more expensive, no?). i would say 99% my figures have always been shipped via EMS. the thing about fedex/dhl (correct me if i'm wrong) is that they will usually kaotim the tax and what nots first and make you pay upon delivery. they don't give you the option of clearing it with customs personally... but they don't charge you extra for the delivery as they're already obligated to deliver to you anyway.

let's stop a moment and reflect...

when the customs are lazy or when there is a systemic breakdown of the system and they don't bother inspecting every single parcel as they should, we rejoice because we don't get taxed. but when they do, there is hue and cry over having to pay taxes and the inconvenience of it all. that pretty much sums up malaysian mentality... malaysia baru, fikiran lama. and at the end of the day, we gotto blame someone... anyone except ourselves. awesome.

back to amiami... yeah, they generally have the best prices, but they don't carry skytube premiums or native (unless it's pre-owned stuff). hobbysearch provides excellent prices during sales. and nippon yasan... that's pretty much the place to go for the cast-offable and likely to be confiscated stuff. all excellent retailers, imo.
