the question as to whether they should even tax (or allow) such figures are a separate discussion altogether though

if you parcel is detained by customs, it is usually for one of two reasons namely:

(i) tax;
(ii) suspected prohibited item.

if it's the former then yes, poslaju can handle for you the tax payment and subsequent shipment to the nearest poslaju collection centre. not sure the exact rate but i reckon approx. 6% tax and another rm50 or so in handling/delivery to collectiion centre. poslaju will contact you to confirm whether you would prefer to have them handle the custom clearance or handle that yourself. if you require poslaju to handle, be prepared to foward them a copy of the invoice. they will subsequently inform you of the tax payable upon assessment (together with their handling charges etc) and once you agree to absorb the charges, they will arrange to send it to the nearest poslaju collection centre.

if it's the latter, you've got no choice but to drive all the way to the customs and they will get you to open the parcel for inspection. if it's not a prohibited item, then you will need to produce the invoice for the customs to asses the tax, you make payment and off you go with your parcel.

i didn't usually have issues with customs in the past, but 2/2 of my parcels were detained this year. got poslaju to clear customs on my behalf.

yes, poslaju will ask you for the invoice.

should be 6% (not sure) plus other charges and yes, poslaju will give you the breakdown invoice (whole stack of documents for you to sign off upon collection).

by the way, it's not all parcels that pos malaysia assist with clearance. some items you would have to deal directly with customs. usually pos malaysia will give you a call and let you know the procedure (including what email to send your invoice to and addressed to who) but usually they will call you first. some items may be held by customs for reasons other than duty not paid (you know i know la...) so even pos malaysia can't help you clear

guys, if you can delay your purchases, do. shipping is basically down to flinging stuff around these days. almost all the boxes of my stuff received during this period has seen some damage or another, especially those overseas packages. with the lockdowns, the entire system is overwhelmed so yeah, stuff gets thrown about is the new norm. if pristine boxes is your thing, don't risk it.

the problem is what gets banned or otherwise almost always depends on 'budibicara'

only if the mintak u bukak for inspection. most times, detention is only for tax payment so sometimes even those nsfw (not safe from wifey) pass through customs. but yeah, why tempt fate

no-lah, they're not that nasty. the beach queens should be safe (the operative word here is "should be").

actually, from my experience, they will wanna check what costs so much. i only ever had to open my parcels when the value exceed 1k, and even then because the custom officers were curious how toys can cost so much. but again, no hard and fast rule so order at your own risk...
