HI,

My mobile station. VHF & HF antenna form high sierra side kick (motorize HF antenna from 160m (1.8Mhz) to 6m (50Mhz). longest station i made contact with someone at Guangdong china during mobile (with supervision of 9M licence holder). i'm also active communicate via 40m on the commercial band (also with someone with 9M licence holder). this only way how i'm practise to communicate via HF and it's not simple as on VHF.

for icom set; ICV8 was recommended by a fren
user posted image
ICV8
This radio features military grade construction, CTCSS/DTCS encode/decode with tone scan and a full 5.5 watts out with the optional BP-222N battery. Low power output (0.5 watts) is also featured. The V8 has three different scan modes. These are Programmed, Memory and Priority Watch. Zoom through your personalized scan ranges, 3 user selectable pairs at 40 channels per second. You also get 100 alphanumeric (5 character) memory channels. Each memory stores frequency, name, tone, output power and duplex setting. Plus enjoy fast 40 channel per second scanning. Five DTMF memory channels with up to 24 DTMF codes allow remote operation. The optional DTMF decoder unit (UT-108) provides code squelch operation and pager functions.

or spender also is quite ok

the feature for this handy i not too sure, but as far as i know it is able to receive fm radio also

source : Kedai SCS

ps: i am not promoting the product for this shop, these few sets r the set that was introduce & recommended to me by a fren
*
weird selection, but i i will add that scs shop's stuff is kinda on the high side

instead of a v8, which is old i would suggest a v82, but then if u going for a v85 wich is around 400 ++ - 500 i would suggest a v85 wich is half the size but uses a new lit ion batt instead of a nimh ...

and the spender yeah its ok, with the ori car adapter set which u can at times boost it up all the way to 25w ...

but instead of getting a spender at about 500 i would actually go for a motorola mt777 or a tk508 ... generic version of puxing ... get a sma to bnc adapter get a better antenna ... and u are good to go ... if u wan get a potato mic ... thats all

*
vx7 is bout 1.4k new ...

my experience so far is with

v82, vhf only, very good hold, full size radio ... bnc adapter ...

vx170, vhf only, better than v82, sturdy design, have to buy optional bnc adapter bout RM35 from HK tru ebay, maza sells it as well ... RM28 - RM30with shipping

ft60r, dua band vhf and uhf - ability to scan trunk radio, rugged design ... small ...

tk508, vhf only - lightweight, lit ion batt, programming could be a lil hard and scanning function is slow and complicated to use ...

mt777, same as tk508

which motorola model? those talkabout units? those scanning are like shit la ... chanel spacing are just not for spacing, it will only scan the pre-set channel only ...

gp328? no scaning ... gp338? no scaning also ...

whats important for a ham radio set is its scanning capability and direct channel input ... vfo.

hahah anyway back to topic. For ease of simplex, a good antenna like a home made J-pole for RM50 would do wonders with a cheap china mali VHF handset. 5w is all you ever need with a base antenna to another base antenna. Good pirates would be good ham operators in the end.
*
yea ... a simple slim jim is good ... but i never home brew la ... gua beli hahaahha brand is silver ..> RM6 0 - 70 ... works very good ... 15w can reach shah alam from cheras pandan indah and i am surroudned by buildings ...

a friend uses the same antenna who is staying high area 10w all the way to klang ... from around my area also ...

and yeah 5w with a good antenna can reach orali in indon ...

Earl let me think about the price a bit more.

Readily available slimjim I believe are ham area 144-146 with center at 145 ? Can it be adjusted?
You want to try a homebrew? You can get SWR1:1 on your 143 commercial downlink. You are legal on that Freq.
15w from rig would be 15w on antenna.

With SWR1:1.5, you get 15w from rig.. antenna only 7-8w  shocking.gif

Dude,

VX7 = Dual Band and Dual Monitor ( meaning got 2 radios inside, both running together. Can be VHF+VHF or VHF+UHF or UHF+UHF) plus 6M HF( FM mode). You can put one freq on standby and scan another Freq. You can MUTE one when both are active to prevent mix up.
VX6 = Dual Band and can only run either VHF or UHF.

VX6 is smaller lighter and is a newer model from Yaesu made from magnesium with all the bells and whistles. Good unit
VX7 is thicker and heavier older model I believe 2001 and made from Magnesium. Its basically a Vx6 on steroid. Have known bugs.

To add to the confusion, VX8 have been released in Feb 2008 and would be available anytime from this month. Vx8 is a new version of Vx7 which is slimmer and adds options like GPS and Bluetooth.

Disclaimer : As with all Yaesu new models, beware of the 1st generation. Bugs yet to be ironed out.

Phone number I will PM to you.
