after i plug in my guitar to the amp and i turn it on, i can hear buzzing sounds from the amp unless i mute my strings...
i thought that was supposed to be normal till recently i tried my guitar on someone else's amp and there was no buzzing at all!
i tried changing cables but it did not fix the problem.
So is this buzzing sound supposed to be normal?

Its because of the gain. Its noisy when you play with high gain. Nothing wrong with the amp. You need a noise gate to make it quiet. Either way I dont think its a big prob, I dont use a noise gate either.

If that is so, why when you select at 2 & 4 the buzz lower down?? Is it because the two pickup is activated??? biggrin.gif

static can build up in the strings as well. I know that in a P-bass there is an earth wire connected to the bridge to discharge the strings. And when that wire doesn't touch the bridge, i get mini shocks when i touch my strings sometimes. But it's also because my amp was somehow leaking tiny currents into the signal path. Changed the amp and everything was ok.

So it could be the amp too. But could be your earthing wire somewhere. I don't know where it is on your guitar.

2 & 4 pickup setting uses 2 pickup, either bridge + middle, or middle + neck. still, the buzz can be heard thru speakers when connect to pc. hmm, think my soundcard got problem.

From wut i read sometime ago; 2&4 pu selection of a SSS config selects dual single coils. Emulating a humbucker.

well maybe u should give it a try.. and when it begins buzzing, try turning all the knobs to zero(including ur guitar volume knob) and idle it for a while. Maybe 2 minutes or so.

Btw what amp are u using? and what guitar are u using?
ur avatar shows an ibanez with dual humbucker config - means minimal buzzing
so it should be a big problem if u experience extream buzzing.

Emulating a humbucker, and therefore cuts off the buzzing sound?

In this case though, I dont think its the cable or the guitar. Most probably the buzz from high gain.

sometime the buzzing can also be caused by the plug of the amp being a 2 pin socket without the earth cable.
try checking the cables, and try using different pickups to c the sound difference. u can even try using another guitar n c the effect.

hope it helps.
regards.

Did you turn on distortion for your amp or is it in clean mode? If distortion, its "quite" normal. If clean, change your pick up. 80% pickup problem. If still tak jadi, plug another elec guitar in. If got hum, 80% amp prob. If no hum 99% pick up prob for your own guitar. Hope this helps cheers.gif

after reading back....maybe it is the 'common' grounding problem... hmm.gif

try getting tips on grounding from various sites...

so the solution is, to keep on playing at max volume so you dont notice the buzz tongue.gif
