The success of LG G5's modularity solely depends on the accessories and the companies producing them.

For that.. They need a big enough install base/market share. That's gonna be tough.

nice article from soyacincau.

but i am gonna wait for HTC M10 before deciding on my next purchase.

now using OnePlusOne. Got fedup with this phone. No official CM support + no MM updates.

I've been using htc since dopod with a short exception/foray into the iphone. Camera's important to me now and I. Don't think HTC has the capability nor the resource to come out with a class leading camera.

Thanks for the link.

Finally there's photos with exif intact.

It seems like the camera is relying on the OIS, keeping down to 1/10 shutter speed to keep ISO low. None of the shots were above ISO250.

edit: owait.. there's one on ISO1250

You can make an accessories that plugin the micro usb that look nice with the case and call it modular too... LOL

If you think the dac improve audio quality, why not include it in the first place? If you think it need a bigger battery, why shrink it? Why do you need a handgrip to take picture with smartphone anyway?

No one came up with anything interesting this year. I think Edge stole the story last year but thats it.

Cant wait for flexible display...

let's see. rumours is that this round HTC will be coming up with 12 Ultrapixels camera which is really really good in low light.

The previous 4 Ultrapixels camera is already very good in low light. The draw down is it is only 4mp.

The only thing drawing me back from getting samsung now is the placement of back button on the right which i think is not practical in day-to-day use since I already get used to my previous Nexus 4, HTC M7 and OnePlusOne which all follow Google guidelines to place the back button on the left.

IMO, the issue is not the camera module itself but more of their software, their jpeg processing.

Yeah.. need to get use to the tak logic placement of samsung's back button.

Few dollars is a LOT in the industry. Especially for a low key feature.

Eh? No CM support? I am still using the Official CM 12.1 on my OPO.

Anyway, according to OPO forum and CM's twitter, MM update for OPO is coming very soon. Should be around in March.

The mentality's basically like this...

- Prospective consumers to whom understand the feature are a small minority

- Consumers who makes their buying decision based on that feature are lagi smaller minority.

- Its very hard and cost money to market to the masses without a brand association or a figure that average joes using pasar malam Beat earplugs understand .....like Snapdragon or 64GB etc.

- There's slim price band for a non-apple flagship Android phone.

- LG could include it as standard but it provides very minimum returns for the costs incurred. 10million units multiply by X dollars is A LOT of money. Btw, decent DAC + amplifier etc cost more than USD12.

- Their cost for the G5 is already higher than the competition (my guess) due to having 2 separate lens and camera module among others.

- By having it as a separate module, they could provide the feature to those who wants it. Use the modular feature as a sellpoint for those upgrade/accessory freaks. Also by doing so, they also afford to license the B&O brand name to attract further buyers/brand whores.

cost of a DAC chip is cheap, but the engineering that goes into a decent dac+amp chip is not.
