Bank Negara is expected to hold its key interest rate steady on Wednesday, a decision that comes as markets wait to see who will succeed the respected, long-serving governor.
Malaysia had better-than-expected growth in the last quarter of 2015, and see no need to change the key rate at this point. Bank Negara is likely to maintain the overnight policy rate (OPR) at 3.25% in 2016, amid weak economic factors, RHB Investment Bank said today.
In a note, the research firm said this is due to the impact of rising inflation to be kept in check by weak energy prices, a weak ringgit and weak economic growth prospects. “While Bank Negara views that overall domestic financial conditions have remained relatively stable since the previous MPC meeting and liquidity remaining sufficient, we would like to highlight that overall liquidity has fallen with the slowing of broad money supply and loan growth to 2.7% in 2015, from an increase of 7% in 2014,” the note read. http://www.theedgemarkets.com/my/article/r...?type=Corporate |
