hi all,

considering to buy a digital door lock as so troublesome with many keys and carrying barang and managing baby etc. rclxub.gif at least 1 door less to cari kunci and open.

any recommendations? i saw got quite a few brands out there with the most common being Samsung. hoping to get one around RM600-800 only though. a bit lower budget, but as long as it works. no need the super canggih high end super tough etc one. if pencuri wanna masuk, i dont think this normal lock can stop them anyhow yawn.gif .. thanks.

door lock to my knowledge is battery operated. so no link to the power supply. and apparently battery can last like 1-2 years depending on usage and got like low battery alarm thing.

I think they are not expensive really. I think in the US the price is about 100~200. Maybe got people sell in Lelong imported from China. It is about your price and even use thumb print, perhaps. The Samsung I remember was about RM2000.

I would recommend not using number combination because the code button will wear off and can be easily guessed.

Another option is to use door knob follow standard. You can buy key which is registered type. This key cannot be duplicated because it is not sold. Then the knob you can change and use the same key for door. This way you carry only one key. How ever, each key hole is around RM300 also sad.gif

you want convenience have to go all the way and install one for your grill, one for your main door.

dont tell me, you want to fish out your keys to open your grills etc then use electronic lock for main door

They normally use battery. If the battery drained out, you can temporarily hold a 9V battery to a contact point externally usually beneath the knob

Anyway, do not leave any spare key in your house. Once a thief enter the house, they can steal everything one they have the key to the main door and grill. It will be harder for the thief to tkae your dinner table through the roof tongue.gif

i think the number or key card both ok. i thought the number ones mostly using touchpad and not physical number? the worry abotu the lelong ones are warranty. would prefer to shop at proper store, but will consider it if can get from US so cheap maybe will daigou it from amazon.

well for the grill wont lock all the time, i live in apartment so wont be too obvious i go in and out of the place. just close the gate. sometimes go to the pool, or throw rubbish or just go out sekejap then dont need to lock. but main thing im interested is the autolock that most of them have. then just masuk and dont need to put down everyhting then go back and lock the door. forgot to lock the door several times already doh.gif barang + crazy son running around hahaha.

The thief can easily enter the house through roof which is not even nailed mostly. People normally put grill on the ceiling access door but the ceiling itself be easily break.

So your house is not secure in that sense..... and my house too .... Yes, the main door need no key from inside and I don't even have grill on main door. wink.gif

Make sure you check the requirement 1st before u buy. For example minimum thickness of your door . Most models require thickness of 40mm above And also your hole of the current door if u r using old one .

I plan to get Schlage Connect Camelot Touchscreen Deadbolt w/ Built-In Alarm, it is z-wave digital lock, if you have home automatio, it can automatically unlock when a person reach home. Schlage is a well known lock in USA, the lock meets ANSI Grade 1 Highest Residential Security.

Another one that also pretty good is Gateman F10, it has fingerprint unlock which is pretty useful too

I have a deadbolt installed on the inside for when I am in because my house has no grills. This tech is for convenience not security.

Yale or Schlage is better choice.
Nothing lesser than RM1k and installation will cost your RM200-300.
It is for convenient and not security.
If someone hates u, 1 hit to your lock and your RM1k+ will be gone.

How can it be without all the import duty and fee?
How about their profit?
Delivery charges?

Judging from the price it could be from taobao OR used.
Therefore, no warranty.

Most directly imported goods which has no representative in Malaysia would not have any warranty. I saw the Amazon price was about USD100. So, if they buy even in small volume they get discount.

The digital access door in the US is just about that price in the US in Home Depot wink.gif

yeah. its not too much for security. just figured if someone for example stole my wifes handbag. got keys and cards and all. probably has the home address somewhere. they can just go to my apartment and open the door so chill... but if need a pin at least its a bit harder and maybe they would just leave.

i think its ok. imported so no warranty. seems thats the price though, its just that i havent seen it sold here. i guess they only bringing in the more high end ones but i dont need the entire door handle. just need a bolt.

You can buy via Ebay, i got my shs-5120 for less than RM 7xx.00 in 2011, that was because USD exchange rate was low. For the same model same time, a local seller selling RM 1.5k excluding installation.

If someone decided to break into your house, nothing can stop them.
Either they cut your grill or climb from roof.
They don't go in from your door.

Main door and rear kicthen door always have deadbolt.

Especially kitchen door cause u dont use it often and it dont have to look pretty. Install a big ugly deadbolt.

Can you please elaborate on one knock to the lock and RM1k will be gone, since I am considering one fo these digital locks for added security.

The thing is, most if not all locks in the market can be opened by a locksmith in below 5 seconds. There isn't any need to break the locks. The reason I am considering these digital locks is the locksmith may not be able to use conventional methods of opening the digital locks. I need someone to confirm on this.

If the locksmith cannot open digital locks, then the only way is to break them by use of force with special tools. Some digital locks come with alarm, and I appreciate information if the alarm will be triggered if the digital locks are smashed open by force. If the alarm of the digital locks did not function when someone breaks the digital lock, then the digital lock that comes with the alarm function is of no use in terms of security.

This is a very relevant link from a locksmith that shows how a conventional lock can be easily opened. I have personally experienced this so I am aware of the relevance of this post below. I just wonder if locksmith can open digital locks as well? The link and post below.

QUOTE(ku1wing @ Jul 15 2016, 10:48 AM)
Actually Stainless Steel 304 grade security door is good. Just make sure it is thick enough, like 3mm will be the best. less than 2 mm is too thin, can be pried open actually.

But the weakness point of the doorset, is the lock itself. There is no need for a thief or burglar to attack your door, because the lock is so easy, no different than the ordinary locks on wooden door. The burglared case posted above is quite common, estimated takes less than 1 minute to enter. But if we just change the key cylinder to a high security type like KESO or EVVA, it will become near impossible for a thief. For a robber, I will still feel sorry for him. Probably after the police arrive, they are still trying to break the lock or door.

The point is, get a good thick door from a reliable door company, then get a good lock from a locksmith only. Sorry I am a locksmith from Kuching Sarawak, can't help you guys out in Peninsula. But I am trained from KL so I know some folks selling high security. Trust me, a door salesman might bluff but he knows nothing about locks. Door is their field, not locks. For locks, look for your locksmith. AND WE ARE TIRED OF REPAIRING LOUSY LOCKS INSTALLED BY DOOR SALESMAN!!

This is not my two cents, this is pure brutal knowledge.

Stay safe,
Francis Wong.

Most digital lock comes with manual key overide... otherwise the electronics rosak or no power/battery means your door cannot open...

Any thing electronic will be susceptible to failure. I got a reputable one more than 6 months ago. Its motor unit failed shortly after installation and need warranty claim to replace the faulty unit. During the time of failure I have to use manual key to operate the lock and hence my advice is if you are getting a smart lock get one with manual key. It sounds obvious and most will have this but still need to make sure this feature is available.

Pros
- remote monitoring and lock and unlock
- multiple options to unlock from numerical pad, thumb print, auto unlock, NFC, manual key, app, etc
- integrate to Alexa or Google
- temporary vs permanent user passwords
- Auto lock
- simple to use. Keyless entry

Cons
- many of these are not the most robust against burglary. Generally more suitable for gng community
- good ones with great features and tough against burglary are not cheap
- need to watch out on battery level. That said my lock battery level still HIGH after 6 months+ of usage. You will get alerts when the battery is low. Anyway my lock can also use power bank to connect to the lock as emergency feature.

My family home uses a Yale Smart Lock and recently installed a Bosch lock for my studio.

Pros :
-Convenient as no need to carry any keys about though we do keep a spare hidden somewhere in the garden.

Cons :
-Good ones are expensive and I would not use any that are cheap to buy unless it is being used for a bedroom.
-Privacy concerns.
-Long term reliability is still unknown as they have not been in widespread use for long.

thanks for the feedback, indeed the dilemma of changing ones is due to the electrical component inside so is choosing between convenience (the cool factor) and reliability.. and the challenge of installing 2 x digital lock for the main door and security grille for condo

love those features of being connected to the WIFI for all the remote management but any IT savvy folks would know that spell another layer of security breach

The security of the latest generation of locks are better but any connected device will still have vulnerability. If you are considering smart lock it should be complemented with security camera and system ... just to be sure. I think this is the tipping point where the benefits starts to outweigh the risks.

In my case the gng security is already good that security of the lock is not a major concern. Despite that I still have a security camera installed.

If i would have decided to install one, i will go for those without any WIFI capability, just straight forward fingerprint / pass code lock unlock

This is a very relevant link from a locksmith that shows how a conventional lock can be easily opened. I have personally experienced this so I am aware of the relevance of this post below. I just wonder if locksmith can open digital locks as well? The link and post below.

Thanks for reading my post 🤣🤣🤣

Digital lock, are much tougher to open.... i certainly have to drill it... but some can lockpicked too (local thief usually x so pro so no worries)

And so far until now 2020, among all my burglar client, not a single case is breaking thru digital lock yet. So i think thief is quite scared of digital door lock maybe because of the beep beep sound.

As I shared in another thread, my Ultraloq Smart Deadbolt's clutch was dead too after a few months of usage.
It's still working until now after replacement.
More than 2 years of usage now..
The WiFi bridge is dead for 2nd time and I don't bother to get a replacement.

Perhaps, you can check on Amazon review for keywe's products.
For me, I value reliability more than number of features.
Hence, I'll skip keywe for my new house digital lock.

Well for the price vs features it is definitely hard to beat but I would not personally buy one.

I prefer those that are made in Korea and sold by a more reputable company as rather not have something that becomes a pain to hunt for parts.

Grille door lock is more costly because need double sided. If buy from online shop should meet your budget. 2.5k including installation?
Which will you choose?

this is one of the top brands is US so they claim

https://august.com/products/august-wifi-smart-lock

not sure about the new model but the august smartlock pro is excellent, only gripe is the WIFI connect dongle which does get disconnected at times.

the best feature for me is the auto unlock when you are in front of the door granted you must have your mobile with you.

you may use the keypad or even your key to unlock the door.

it has all the other standard features you would find in a smart lock, ie guest keys and so forth.

abrain is too expensive for a non branded lock
aqara is a famous xiaomi sub-brand in home automation
why pay 1500 for a non branded lock?

Thanks for the insight. However I see that it is China version, will it affect the overall usability of the lock?

no. the smart lock only locks and unlocks. all these is done locally. it doesnt need to be connected to the Internet
if you wish to monitor the status of the lock, then you will need to get a Bluetooth hub and connect your lock to it. This is solely for monitoring the status of your lock. And maybe to share a key....(not sure about this one)

btw the link i posted, i see they increased the price but nevermind you can get it from this other seller for 970 - https://shopee.com.my/Aqara-Mi-Mijia-Smart-...5082.4539763570

Not to me. Nothing is wrong with their locks. Just the price is too high. You can find similar locks for half the price or less.
Heck you can find branded ones for half their price. I bought Xiaomi Aqara lock for only 999 and this is one of their latest locks

i mean like for airbnb, can generate password for a specific period of time, after that period, the password will expired. As far as i know, this feature requires wifi to function.

Not necessary to have wifi. The one I use is using TTLock app. Pair using bluetooth then can generate random one-time, scheduled, and a specific period of time passwords without wifi and without being near the lock. Unless you want custom password, then you need to be near the lock.

Can view record without wifi but you or any other admin need to be near the lock to refresh the record. Once one admin refresh, all other admins can see. As for warranty, my deadbolt one got 1 year warranty but i didn't research on how to claim.

Anyone here use samsung digital lock? If yes, what battery brand/size that you use? Tried to change the battery recently, but the batteries (IKEA LADDA) cannot fit into the slot. Existing battery is Energizer, and that it quite a tight fit too. (Difficult to put it or pull out)
