Since you mostly for movie, 5.1 system would be better than 2.0 or 2.1

Now more popular are soundbar because it's compact and also can simulate surround sound. There are very cheap one with not great sound and there's model with ATMOS but not cheap.
Last time I think this is one of the popular model when I was thinking to buy soundbar. Don't know if there's newer and better model now

AVR + speakers can easily go way above your budget, especially if you want to get AVR with more features or branded speaker.
