Don't really agree on that bro.
Good speakers are forever good speakers. Good sound is, well good sound.

Speakers aren't like TVs or computers where every 6 months something better is at the horizon.
Thing is, don't take all of this so super seriously. Once you achieve good sound, just give it a rest and enjoy your content. After all, that's the whole point isn't it? smile.gif

I meant was the AV receiver. Like Yamaha RX-479, I wish I could get 481 but the price was far way pricey and now I wish I could get a Yamaha receiver with Dolby Atmos even if it's just an entry level at great bargain. Sigh....this is my problem! blush.gif

But I do agree that speakers or subwoofers will be just fine to stick with it over the longer term. thumbsup.gif

Hold on, what makes you want the v481 so much over the v479? They are pretty much the same exact receiver with the exception that the v481 can passthrough 4k60p at 4:4:4 chroma subsampling. Unless you're running a PC through to your 4k TV, it's not that big of a deal.

You save more by just buying last year's model actually, which you definitely should.
As for Atmos, seriously just forget Atmos in all these low-end receivers. I've been telling people for a while now, if you want to do Atmos, do it right. 5.1.2 is a barely acceptable solution, that's really even if you aren't already starving that poor little receiver out of power by driving 7 speakers.
*
I'm waiting for RX Yamaha 479 at a bargain price. I think this is a confirmation. As for the Atmos, perhaps some other time. Thanks for your great advise bro! Appreciated! notworthy.gif

I'm planning to set up a 5.1 home theater system in the living room of my new condo unit but I know nuts about setting up one. I'd like to seek some advice and recommendations from you guys here.

My living room is just about 12ft x 10ft. My couch will be up against the wall and the distance at the sitting position to the TV is probably about 8-9ft. On one side of the living room will be the glass sliding door to the balcony and the other side will be some open space to kitchen and main door entrance. Since my unit is small and it is a high rise unit, I just need an entry level setup will do, although I will consider spending a fraction more if the sound experience is considerably better. I have a budget of around 6-7K.

AVR
I'm pretty much set on Yamaha for AVR, either the RX-V481 or V581. I need the 4K for the TV, just contemplating whether I would want to future proof with Atmos or not.

L/C/R Speakers
I'm leaning towards the Sony CS3 floor standing speakers and CS8 center speakers since they are cheap with decent performance and good value, based on tons of reviews on the web and some of the earlier comments in this thread. Any others that are better with a similar price point? The other one that caught my attention based on reviews is the Elac. Are the Elac F5 or F6 worth the extra over the Sony CS3/5/8?

Sub-woofer
I have no idea on this one. Any recommendations?

Surround Speakers
I have no idea on this one as well. Since my couch is pretty much against the wall, so  I'll be placing the surround speakers on the left and right of the couch.  Is the Sony CS5 bookshelf speakers good for surround?
Any suggestions and recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

I am newbie. Want to ask experts here if the above vintage receiver can still work with modern speakers?

That one is owned by my late father and has been left idling for more than 10 years. I am not sure if it still in working condition.

Thanks.

If I would buy Yamaha RX-V681 av receiver (new set), what would be the best Dolby Atmos speakers + subwoofer to connect it? I don't mind if it's second hand too....... icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyone opinion? hmm.gif

Huh? Best "dolby atmos" speakers? The best speakers are the speakers you can mount on your ceiling without burning a hole in your pocket. Don't understand your question...? Do you mean upfiring "dolby atmos" modules?

As for sub, buy the best sub you can afford.

Hi Ben!

Sorry regarding the confusion of my initial question. I meant was what will be the most suitable speakers + subwoofer (second hand if possible) for the av receiver which is Yamaha RX-V681 (Dolby Atmos). blush.gif

One more thing is that should I get the RX-V581 instead of the RX-V681 becoz the price difference was around RM400. hmm.gif

Any speakers that are 8ohms rated, fairly average sensitivity (about 87db) will be fine. The v681 will struggle with 4ohms speakers or low efficiency speakers (below 85db).

So other than that to look out for, basically anything that suits your ear is fine.
I've been liking the Q Acoustics 3020 these days, nice speakers! I would go with the v681 simply for the virtue of better YPAO.

I think he can set his budget lower because there's no need to spend that much if the room is small. In this case, size does matter! cool2.gif

The Wharfedale Diamond 121 at RM880 is a pretty price I think. Depends which you like better, to be honest I prefer the QA3020 over any Wharfedale in the same price range because the QA3020 does not dull the highs as much as the Wharfedales. The only Wharfedales I like now a days are the Jades, that's my 2 cents. That said, try and go demo the QA3020 first. You may or may not like it at the end of the day.

As for center, you can go with the same QA3090 center? It's a general MTM design though so try to avoid having very wide sitting areas off axis.
RM20k is a pretty healthy budget as long as the projector is 1080p.

I bought this speaker to complement my 3010i's, and the three speakers blend together absolutely seamlessly, combining crystal clear dialogue with deep bass and sparkling treble, thus providing lots of excitement if a movie is played at higher than normal levels.

seamless sound, excellent design, blends well

Firstly, DO take note of the dimensions! Like many other reviewers have commented, it is bigger and chunkier than I expected and for me, it looked a little too obtrusive sat just below the front of the TV.

quality product, build, looks, improvement in sound

Just got this plus 4 3020s to replace 30 year old Gales, jamo surround and centre. The Q Acoustics speakers blow away what they replace and this centre is exactly what you need to match the superb quality of the 3020s front and surround

reasonably small, good looking, great definition and clarity

An extremely well built and substantial centre speaker that delivers a lot more than its price level would suggest. In a blind audio test I am convinced I would have thought it was a £250 speaker. A nice well balanced sound neither harsh nor overly warm / soft.

balanced sound stage, good keen price, well built & substantial
graphite finish a little bland go for gloss

Upgraded from a Q Acoustics 1000Ci because I found I could not hear people speaking very well. The difference is amazing, it is so clear and detailed now, should be even better after it has broken in.

First of all...it's BIG! <Approx> 16" wide, 7.5" deep, and 6" high: and weighing around 13lb. Very solid construction! Sound reproduction is superb, but you may need to put the foam plugs in the rear bass ports, as it can sound a little "heavy" at times, depending on...

solid construction, sound quality, easy-to-use cable connectors
unimaginative design, nothing else

From some user reviews. thumbsup.gif

My previous HT set I have a problem with the dialogue. Rear speakers, surround speakers and subwoofer not causing much problem but dialogue movies not clear. I'm not sure if it's the setting or what because tried setting but same result. sad.gif
