Dear all,

This week I found out my Unifi getting slow, troubleshoot it tonight and find out only happened to all wireless device.

1) Did speedtest.net on my laptop by using Lan cable, 30mbps result.
2) Did speedtest.net with my laptop via wireless, get 3-10mbps. Btw I disconnect all wireless device and make sure only my laptop connected.
3) Did speedtest.net with my various models of mobile phone devices, same 3-10mbps. Same method, only one device connected to the network.
4) All test above I verified via router, no other network devices connected to the network only test device (Mobile phone / laptop)

Any issue with my router with the wireless, configuration never changed before this.

Thanks in advance for comments and suggestions, notworthy.gif

If changing channel doesn't help much (like in my case, only improve a little), then it's time to consider using LAN cable or HomePlug technology at least on your wired devices such as laptops.

This is the problem with more capacity or speed. You have 802.11BGN

With 802.11BG, your AP will have 22MHz bandwidth channel. Therefore you have 14 channels (USA has only 11 channels due to smaller frequency allocation). However, there are only 3 non-overlapping channels
[attachmentid=5950161]

The 802.11N is using 40MHz bandwidth for it max speed. Therefore it actually can have 1 channel. This is why manufacturer concentrate more the 802.11n for the 5GHz wireless which has wider band than the 2.4GHz. The problem is many devices only operates in 2.4GHz band only.

If your neighbor is using 802.11N also, you cannot avoid interference with your channel. Yes, your signal is stronger but no way you can avoid interference. With interference, you have more error during transmission, thus your AP might switch to smaller band and lower speed and keep gong down if more error encountered at threshold setting.

I believe this is you main problem. You can use your phone and install apps that can scan the spectrum to confirm this. The best perhaps move to 5GHz band where there is less interference. I believe many laptop nowadays support this but not the lower end mobile devices like smartphone, unfortunately sad.gif

Maybe can shield the house from external interference laugh.gif

Purchase a better router with better wireless. The speed drop when the signal strength drops as well.

Hi all,

Thanks for your reply, I am using Unifi stock RG router for the upper floor with Hypptv.
One of the LAN port connected to Homeplug to supply network downstair (Asus RT-N12).
Both router using different SSID.

My troubleshoot via both router, but of course the test mostly connected to Unifi RG router upstair.
Connection really low, never try my Asus RT-N12 to configure as main Unifi router. Afraid the Hypptv not working.

For this issue, I am trying to troubleshoot and fix on my Unifi RG router instead of my Asus RT since the Asus just a secondary AP (Not repeater - If repeater yeah lost so many bandwidth). That's why using homeplug to extend my connection.

Thanks again, btw the problem now is solved without any configuration done rclxms.gif . Unfortunately, the 28 - 32 mbps intermittent back to 3-10mbps rclxub.gif .

I had the same issue. upgrade from 10mbps to 30mbps. Previous 10mbps was consistently getting 9-10mbps. Which is good.

With the newly upgraded 30mbps, I got 18-22mbps wifi.
Remembered that a friend said he got 18mbps with wifi, but with wired LAN, he can get 30mbps consistently.
I tried mine with LAN cable too, it worked! ... getting 31mbps consistently. Lucky!
*Tested on both Unifi Speedtest and Speedtest.net

Now I'm wondering what should I do to get at least 27mbps++ on wifi .... rather lazy to change the wifi router.

here's my pics :

wifi router and modem (nothing changed since my 5mbps --> 10mbps --> 30mbps) :
Attached Image

On LAN cable :

On wifi :

now scouting for affordable wifi router ... any suggestions? laugh.gif

If your're using Asus router, check whether settings on max upload/download speed has been adjusted accordingly.

It should be in your router settings page, under "Traffic Manager" if I'm not mistaken.

FYI, i having the same issue speedtest on wifi 5-13mbps...

use wifi analyser (android download), check which channel is best for your area.

mine N Only, 20Mh chn 6, i manage to get 28++ for my iphone speedtest, than i test my laptop, still same, suspect laptop wifi card problem, swap the card with newer card, i get 34mbps download and 6mbps upload speed now...

oh ya... if possible just get a L7NR2000 router la, abit old model but for me it not bad la... at least the latency when high transfer rate still maintain 1ms-4ms, innatech RG4332 suck big time, sometime go til 1k of latency. doh.gif

Hi all,

I have same issue with TS. But after I changed the stock router to Asus RT-N12HP. Everything is fine until last week. I thought is unifi issue, so I checked with them , LAN is no issue but when connect via wireless, the speed that I get only 1mpbs~3mpbs for upload and download speed. And also it very unstable. So I went to the seller that I bought the router , the seller checked and agree to change a new router to me. After I setup the new router, the issue still persist. Any idea is whether the router or unifi issue??? But I change back the stock router, the speed is better than Asus router. cry.gif cry.gif

do you have an Android phone ? if yes then download Netgear wifi apps.quite useful.it will do some wifi surveying suggesting the least channel that you can use.

for 2.4 Ghz

mode : wireless N only
bandwidth : 20 Mhz only ( 40 Mhz is channel bonding)
Rate: Auto
Power :100%
Channel : 1 or 6 or 11.can try first.

Did you check if there is another strong WiFi signal(s) colliding with your channel? You need to do frequency scanning

Hello y'all i'm encountering same problem with unifi 30mb plan, its very slow on wifi and upon reading this thread ive tried changing all the best channels but to no avail. I'm using d-link dir-850l router with the following configuration settings currently. It takes up to Attached Image 15 secs for a google page to open on my phone browser and that sucks, I have to be using vpn app to get speed connection.. is there any configuration to rectify that?

Here is my house Asus routers.

I got 3 Asus routers, the first one is my main router, second and third routers are access points.
Main router is channel 1, second router is channel 11, then the last one is channel 6
My main router starting IP was changed from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.4 because I want to assign my second router to 192.168.1.2 and third router to 192.168.1.3. Both of my 2nd & 3rd routers were disabled DHCP.

Maybe the next thing to try is to do a factory reset the router.
Before you do that, please get hold of your Unifi login ID and Password.

Since you have tested with so many different devices and got the same problem, most likely is on the router side.
Can you check with 100, whether they can send a new configuration file to you with your login ID and Password?
Load that configuration file to your router and try testing again.
If still doesn't work, need to change router and test.

well at this stage im sure you already know that this clearly means that
this is not an issue of unifi but your wifi router, its settings or your device
(laptop pc smartphone tablet) adapter settings

it can also be due to frequency interference

you should download a wifi analyser if you have an android device and launch
this app and walk around the house to see which parts have stronger wifi
signal or if your signal has overlapping channels with the ones being broadcast
by your neigbor's place

Cucubud I did try contact TM many times but it seems they dont care about customer anymore as long u pay them. About configuration what u think that will benefit as the configuration its similar to what i have?
what if u can help and take screenshot of ur wireless configuration if u using same router?
thank u for ur help

Ricstc i think there is overlapping i did test but what is the solution for that?
im sure there is no frequency interference
Do u use the same router (Dir-850L) for your home network ?

You can try reset your router. Some of the time users with DIR-850L also facing the problem when beginning manage to get full speed but awhile later the wifi speed become slow, and they have to reset to solve the problem.

what if u can help and take screenshot of ur wireless configuration if u using same router?
thank u for ur help

Ricstc i think there is overlapping i did test but what is the solution for that?
im sure there is no frequency interference
Do u use the same router (Dir-850L) for your home network ?

I saw you did mention there is overlapping channel, what you need to do is to set your wifi channel to other channel that is no 1 using or less people using.

I have 3 routers right now, i am using TPlink Archer C2600 i bought my self 1 year ago and 2 given by TM Archer C5 and Dlink DIR850L each of both C5 and DIR-850L used around 1 month. ALL 3 router i also manage get full 100Mbps in the near distance, for far distance C2600 and C5 still can get full 100Mbps but DIR-850L only mange to get 50Mbps DIR-850L have the low wifi penetration, low wifi coverage. SO if you want better wifi penetration and better coverage you have to buy better router.

You can try to borrow other router from your friend to test 1st.

If the configuration is the same, then it narrow down to the hardware, that is the router.
You have to try out another router to confirm your problem.

I've just installed Unifi 50mbps. The TM supplied router is dlink-DIR850L. On wired connection, I get full 50mbps consistently but on wifi I only get about 19mbps. I changed the router settings as recommended above & immediately got 50mbps! however the speed is inconsistent, sometimes as low as 3mbps. Most of the time about 20+. Sometimes I do get 50. I've tried re-positioning my USB wifi (N) receiver but no improvement. All my family members mobile devices also slow connection both on 2.4GHz or 5GHz bands - even when in the same room. (testing done with speedtest.net & unifi speed test)

Is this a model router a "bad router"? Should I get my own router? If so, what is the recommended model? Any sifu help would be very much appreciated. Sorry noob. Thank you

Yes, if you can afford.
DLink 850l wi-fi is very weak especially when the is a door or wall in between it.
Secondly, the WiFi speed will slow or stopped with time. Means after few days without reboot the router, the WiFi slow down or goes silence.

Just my 2-cents. Thus what happen to my parent's router.

Is your router running IPv6?
If YES, switch it OFF and try speedtest from mobile devices.

I don't have that router so not sure. Usually press the reset button. Check the manual.

Oh sorry, have not how.

Yeah, if dun have the password, have to reset the router. Or just leave it if it's working and you don't have anything important to change.

Hard resetting will remove all the configuration in your router, including the ppoe setup to get connected to unifi. If you don't have that handy, you need to call up TM call centre first to get the username & password. Be careful before doing it smile.gif

Hi sifus, i have some problems with my unifi 30mb (just installed), although the result from speedtest shows 34mb/s, however I feel that my connection is slow. Eg, when i open youtube app, it took 10seconds to show the content.

Nope, nothing was changed in the configuration setup by the installer other than the wifi name / password. The video that I streamed does not have issue after it's played but the initial loading time is taking some time

i just got my unifi 30mbps few days ago. I use the Dlink Ac1200 (DIR 850), the stock router that was provided by TM.

On my mobile devices eg. android phone, ipad, etc, all can get 30mbps speedtest no problem.
On my asus zenbook laptop, can also get consistent 30mbps speedtest no problem also.

However, on my XP 8700 desktop pc, the speed is sluggish and i can get like 2-3 mbps and sometimes 15mbps, 28mbps but that is very rare.

I've checked out the problem and i suspected that the wireless network adapter in my 8700 is the problem. it uses Dell 1703 802.11 b/g/n (2.4Ghz) adapter.

my asus laptop is using Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 7265 adapter.

i do not want to resort to use LAN cable as the distance from my router in my living room & the PC in my study room is quite far away (~10meters long).
I tried checking latest drivers but windows 10 said, the drivers are all up to date.

any suggestion on how to fix the slow speed on my PC?

same here, my mobile (android) speedtest got 30mbps but PC (both laptops) only get speed around 18mbps (always less than 20mbps).

all the devices test at same area which close to router (DIR-850L) one by one.

my wireless connection not stable especially for 2.4Ghz, it will get "No Internet Access" suddenly without any symptom, then I have to restart the router to connect back.
However, wifi 5.0Ghz is working fine when 2.4Ghz having issue.
I have tried the setting eg. change channel width, change channel from auto to 6/11, disable HT20/40 (it will getting worst if disable HT20/40), the result same: internet not stable.

so now i disabled ipv6 and restart router, so far the connection seem stable (still need to monitor for few days) but my PC speed no improve.

any sifu can provide some suggestion?

thank you so much!
