Basically after the big drop 1 week ago, market has gone up few days straight against logic. I dont get why |

QUOTE(kkk8787 @ Mar 27 2020, 07:19 PM) I also holding GENM, dropped last 2 weeks but holding on....really depends on your risk appetite. Also don't trade with emotions and don't trade with money you need for food, rent, etc.I don't mind holding the stock for 2 years or more, so dont care about short term prices |

My advise will be to buy what you like to own. E.g. you will be happy owning it even if it goes down because that's how much you love that business or product. (Of course, make sure they are financially sustainable and fulfils your personal criterias etc.)
For example, I love Apple stock so much as I really think they can and will change the world like they have always do since the iPhone days. Their eye on perfection and the way everything works just amazes me. Let's say the share price drops 40%, does it bother me? Not one bit, unless the fundamentals of the company changes. Another example, let's say i speculate and bought into stocks which I don't have interest in, but thought I could make a quick buck hoping that the share price doubles in say AirAsia at RM0.70. When it goes up, great. But what if it goes down to RM0.40? Will I be worried? Next thing I know, scandal here and there, high level financial engineering to window dress and all, just makes me feel like eating the bullet and cut my losses. And then it goes back up to RM0.80, wouldn't I live everyday regretting my choice or missed opportunity? So with the famous quote Warren Buffett - It's better to buy a wonderful company with a fair price, than buying a fair company with a wonderful price. P.s. this is just my personal preference. Some people find it too safe and boring, but really, do what makes you comfortable and with due diligence. Investing is a long term process. |

QUOTE(kkk8787 @ Mar 27 2020, 07:36 PM) Yes, so it's not a "fair price"- even the growth prospect is bleak. You also need to see the financials if it suits your liking. E.g what is the Return of tangible assets? Debt/Equity ratio? Are they high in debts? How is their growth like? How are the management team? How long can they survive with a 50% hit on their sales? Do you like companies that pay huge dividends or company that prefers to invest in growth? Move on and study new companies and your interest in them might change over time. So the next question is how do you value a company, and valuation can differ from every person or institute. Well, this is a separate discussion all together. |

Please be careful if you want to do DCA for a stock which you bought and the price has gone down. A stock is not a unit trust which comprises of a basket of stocks.
If the underlying company is not fundamentally strong or if you have no holding power, the stock price will continue to fall while you do DCA for months. Your losses will grow. Hence the phrase ‘catching a falling knife’. |
