This account was opened long time ago and I actively used it for trading. But then it’s under maybank nominees, so maybe that’s why it’s not reflected? 😅

My advise will be to buy what you like to own. E.g. you will be happy owning it even if it goes down because that's how much you love that business or product. (Of course, make sure they are financially sustainable and fulfils your personal criterias etc.)

For example, I love Apple stock so much as I really think they can and will change the world like they have always do since the iPhone days. Their eye on perfection and the way everything works just amazes me. Let's say the share price drops 40%, does it bother me? Not one bit, unless the fundamentals of the company changes.

Another example, let's say i speculate and bought into stocks which I don't have interest in, but thought I could make a quick buck hoping that the share price doubles in say AirAsia at RM0.70. When it goes up, great. But what if it goes down to RM0.40? Will I be worried? Next thing I know, scandal here and there, high level financial engineering to window dress and all, just makes me feel like eating the bullet and cut my losses. And then it goes back up to RM0.80, wouldn't I live everyday regretting my choice or missed opportunity?

So with the famous quote Warren Buffett - It's better to buy a wonderful company with a fair price, than buying a fair company with a wonderful price.

P.s. this is just my personal preference. Some people find it too safe and boring, but really, do what makes you comfortable and with due diligence. Investing is a long term process.

I like Nestle but it's not on discount lol

Yes, so it's not a "fair price"- even the growth prospect is bleak. You also need to see the financials if it suits your liking. E.g what is the Return of tangible assets? Debt/Equity ratio? Are they high in debts? How is their growth like? How are the management team? How long can they survive with a 50% hit on their sales? Do you like companies that pay huge dividends or company that prefers to invest in growth? Move on and study new companies and your interest in them might change over time. So the next question is how do you value a company, and valuation can differ from every person or institute. Well, this is a separate discussion all together.

Hmm.... genM is more diverse. I assume I can monitor local sentiment better than something more diverse. U?

Genting Bhd is more diverse. Although 80% revenue comes from gaming and resort. If you were to take the market value ~50% of their ownership in GenS and GenM, you will see that Genting Bhd has a better valuation now.

P.S. I'm not recommending a buy here lol. I think it's gonna get worse until we see people's confidence back in travelling when the virus miraculously disappears tongue.gif

Not a big fan of energy stocks as I see the decline in it in the next decade or so. However, wouldn’t mind entering into some short term trading position if Brent goes all the way down to the lower teens tongue.gif

bro rather than focus on one or two hot business sector, i suggest you diversify your portfolio bro. too dangerous if focus on certain sector only. it might be hot for today but we dont know in the future.
me myself newbie in these stock market, i hope sifu's here can give some advice on my investment strategy.

personally i divide my portfolio into 5 sector

1. finance/banking- essential cash flow, good dividend, my pick would be either  PBB  or MBB. currently hv none. money focus on other sector. believe share price will be stagnant until end of year. waiting for the right time/price (maybe) dip in Q3. follow warren buffett stratergy, get/keep as many cash as you can at the moment.

2. food&beverages/consumer service - grocery, everyone need to eat, no job also need to eat, covid stay at home also need to eat. shortlist NESTLE, DUTCH LADY, F&N, HUPSENG etc. currently research all of them and will pick 1 soon.

3.energy/construction- lot of choices, developer/oil n gas but i prefer solar energy company for long term. currently invest in JAKS

4.digital services/technology- stay at home need broadband/ go outside also need mobile data. from all four big 4 telco my pick will be MAXIS for short/current term n in future AXIATA due to progress in e wallet (boost). management wise going forward MAXIS seem much better

5. health- most easy pick, HARTALEGA.  price is crazy right now. sold/TP my shares last week. waiting to re-enter back at good entry point.
am i doing the right thing sifus?

Before investing in Big Cap, high PE consumer stocks, try doing a DCF to see the rate of returns and if it's below your calculated intrinsic value.

There is some sense to what he tweeted. WB is such a boomer, going heavy on grandpa stocks like Boeing and airlines with incredibly small holdings on technology stocks. Explains why his fund got burnt during the recent drop.

Then again these guys are just pure gamblers using leverage tongue.gif

Boeing and airlines? You sure he has Boeing in his portfolio in recent years? Small holding on tech stocks?

For your information, for every USD100 that you’re investing in Berkshire, you’re investing USD20 in Apple. That’s how much it’s worth.

Also, Berkshire is not a fund. And no, it did not get burnt in recent drop.
