Because the AF8/A8F is about to pull its curtain , preparing for the upcoming A9G and A8G .

Yes , solely for the price . Especially since all OLED tvs are relatively identical with each others , just get whichever that is the cheapest you can find .
( I am strictly talking about the Panasonic , LG , Sony and Philips / TP Vision , excluding the Chinese OLED TVs  )

I have a fairly long list of issues with AF8 but if someone can find a new 65" OLED for $7999 I am not going to tell them NO .
*
Hi Convael, I just saw both 55 inch Af8 and C8 selling for $6599, and some of the websites recommending sony af8 being the best when I google AF8, though not for gaming. Personally I have been using Sony and have ps4 pro.

I use TV for extensive Youtube (mostly HD quality) and netflix (I got 4k hdr access) and occasional ps4 pro.

Would appreciate your comment as I lean towards a Sony because I find Sony pictures better for live TV and youtube, also prefer it to be android tv. Really don't know if I should go for OLED tv as I watch mainly HD quality stuff and a lot of streaming. Currently I am using Sony XF7000 49 inch.

Actually I am interested to know between C8 and AF8, which one handles HD upscale better since I watch a lot of youtube. And streaming.

Thanks.

Just went nearby Sony and LG shop.

Best price for Sony a8f and a9f are 6900 and 10700 with 5 years warranty.

Best price for LG c8 6800 with 2 years warranty. All 55 inch.

Really don't know which one to pull trigger or just wait for another year...

Hi guys,

May I know is it still worth to buy c8 now? C9 has better game performance and apparently based on marketing material the alpha 9 new processor can upscale sdr better... Now got 12th July promotion not sure if pull trigger for c8.

How's c8 sound, review says not good compared to Sony af8.

WebOS also no built in twitch app...

[Latest update] just bought C8...

And can someone suggest a sound bar to go with this TV? I don't really know about this, this tv has dolby atmos. So does my sound bar need to have dolby atmos too? Or it is none dolby atmos soundbar also can? Because I understand if a sound bar has dolby atmos, it can process the signal. But since the tv is already processing the signal, then do I need soundbar to have dolby atmos feature too? Currently my only dolby atmos content comes from netflix. I have no blu ray titles that have dolby atmos.

Thanks.

What is your budget for a soundbar?

The C8 can decode Dolby Atmos stream to be downmixed onto its own speakers - that's all it does. The C8 does not have any upfiring speakers to project sound above you to give you an expanded soundstage and also provide height effects. If you get a soundbar, it must not only have the capability to decode Dolby Atmos, but it must also have upfiring speakers to play back that Atmos content - otherwise, it'll be limited to whatever amount of channels the soundbar is equipped with.

My personal opinion? Soundbars with Atmos capabilities are overpriced. Some of them are just passable in audio quality, most of them are just hot trash. Depends what your budget is for an audio setup, if you just want simplicity and you really don't care that much about audio quality - a soundbar may be worth your while.
Get a separate media box.
Not exactly in KL, but I saw a B8 yesterday at ESL Starling Mall - RM6799. Not really worth it considering the 55" C8 can be found for RM6.5k these days.

Thank you for your reply. I don't really have a budget, will buy when there's a good deal normally. I am targeting SK9 LG since I am using C8 now. BTW I find the sound of C8 to be really bad compared to Sony. After a lot of online searching and playing around, I conclude from TV speakers the sound more acceptable when I go Cinema with Dolby Surround turned off. The adaptive sound control doesn't seem intelligent enough... What do you guys use for Sound setting without external speakers?

Maybe it is because I watch mainly youtube HD SDR material, I am not very impress with the C8 screen. Don't get me wrong, the resolution is much better than the X7000F Sony I used previously, but not wow until I have to pay 3 times more for this TV. I just hope it is not because I got a lemon again or the oled needs to run a few days more before picture gets better...

Can I ask you lg gurus, how do you tell the pic mode changed when watching dolby vision, HDR, Ultra HD etc? Eg with Sony, when I watch netflix, if it is HDR material it will switch to HDR picture mode and if I am watching HD material it will change back to Standard Picture mode. I set the scene select as AUTO. With LG, it seems to be the same. Live TV, Netflix for either HD or Ultra HD or Dolby Vision, Youtube, it will always be the picture mode u set in the setting. Currently I have it under Standard as I find Technicolor expert and ISF a bit too dark... How can I let LG auto select the scene and based on the scene selects the appropriate pic mode?

Many thanks.

Hi there,

For those using C8, recently there's an youtube update version 1.0.64 updated 28th Aug 2019. After this update my C8 youtube becomes very unstable. A lot of times when I try to play a video, it either hangs with black screen or it just exit the app to your live TV.

I tried to find online for such similar issues but found none. I wonder anyone in the forum has this version of the app and is facing the same problem as me? Seriously I think in the past month youtube app updated twice I think. Bad quality checking, maybe a case of youtube app working with newer version of webos and not backward compatible.

Appreciate if anyone has a clue how to revert back to the previous version of the youtube app on webos. Thanks.

ps: I have tried uninstalling the app, reset the app, etc. Also tried power off and leave the cord off for 5 mins. Doesn't help.

Yes the newest Youtube update has caused the app to crash more often than it should on last year's LG TVs , particularly when watching higher resolution videos .

I have contacted them via email , perhaps it will be fixed in the near future .
*
I wanted to say this before, but seriously you are DA MAN. Thank you for sending the email and this forum needs people like you. I think the crash happens because when you click on the show it tries to play an advertisement but somehow it couldn't and thus it crashes.

Just now I got a new update already to .65 version. 28th Aug one crap update and hopefully today's update will resolve the problem. Thanks again, BTW who did you send the email to? I hope it's not the Malaysia local support?

Hi guys, sibei Sian.

While watching lgc8 halfway the screen goes black out. The standby red light remains solid and no matter what I press, the TV just won't power on. Just click sound. Tried internet method of unpowering from power source etc, still same. Red standby light remains solid red, no blinking, and TV just doesn't power up. Bought for less than a year, a bit fed up a premium product can be so unreliable. Contacted LG support now waiting for them to call me back. Any advice?

Hi can I check if this is on the spot change or need to bring whole tv back to change? Common problem?

Usually you send it back, but perhaps you can ask them if they would send technicians over to change or not. Of course, you have to pay for their service.

Can't say it's a common problem, but it is a problem nevertheless. There has been like.... over 4.5 million OLED TVs sold, a few forum posters reporting the issue does not mean it's suddenly "common". Common means at least 20% of the 4.5 million units sold reports it.

I just bought this tv 6 months ago. Under warranty, why would I have to pay for their service? Any chance they might change to a new tv for me if they take it back? My understanding is they will call me, the technician. From my Sony experience, they will come to my house to inspect then either fix it or bring back. Not sure for LG. For OLED surely I hate for them to carry back since potential damage to the screen.

A bit disappointed it will take them within 3 days to contact me. All these while I move my Sony TV back into the room. Still cannot believe I bought in July 2019, now spoil...

OK the LG people finally came after 3 days. Surprisingly they say the power supply no problem since the red standby light still on, could be the front and back panel! I don't know if they know what they are saying but who am I to doubt the experts...

They also claim this is common problem not just with LG, even Sony OLED TV got such problem (they contractors). So conclusion is they will request LG HQ to replace both the front and back panel including OLED panel. So I said, might as well give me a new TV then since they will replace everything except the stand!!! Faint....

Let's see what happens next. If no stock meaning my TV will not be able to be repaired until after CNY. Any chance they might replace the TV with a C9?

What was for their full diagnosis? It makes no sense to me that they say "front and back panel" problem when you can't turn on your TV at all lol.

Doubt they will replace your current model with a C9. Not sure. Usually this only happens if you buy those premium warranties from HVN or something. Could be wrong though?
*
Replying from my phone as I am quite upset with LG and their whole process of repair. After much follow up, finally their contractors came to fix the TV, with a motherboard and power board. They tried change the motherboard then test, failed. So change the power board, again failed. So now they are saying they will order the front panel to change. Correct me if I am wrong, if it is panel problem, shouldn't there be at least sound if indeed panel issue?

Now for CNY they are having 10 days holiday, and no way they can fix it before CNY. Meaning I will not have TV for cny period and god knows how much longer I have to wait.

Appreciate if anyone knows LG people and if can pm me their contact to expedite this whole thing. Somehow I think even changing the panel will not resolve the issue. Just bought 6 months... Very upset with LG. I don't know if LG or Sony TV better, but I can tell you at least from my experience Sony has much better customer service. When I called up LG, they told me they do not even have a case number for my case.

Bought my 65 C9 today for 11.5k with free SL5Y sound bar. Top up another 1.5k for additional 3 years warranty. Is it a good deal?
*
Sounds like a good deal especially the additional 3 years warranty. Trust me, my C8 broke down after 6 months. In the end they changed everything except the stand (including panel). Now I can only pray it doesn't break down after 2 years.

Finally my LG C8 TV fixed after they change my whole Panel plus the middle component behind it. So they changed everything except the stand. I can only pray after 2 years no issue. BTW how can you guys spot dead pixel? This screen panel doesn't look brand new, I can only hope it lasts. Next time I buy such a expensive TV, I will buy extended warranty and read the fine print too.

Hi all,

I own a C8 and it is interesting to see all the discussion on colour picture calibration. For me I am more like plug and play guy and when I bought the TV last year, I followed some of the gurus advice here and over rting on the picture setting. Since I watch mostly live TV and YouTube and Netflix only, I find the warm setting too yellowish for me. In the end I just set to neutral and tempted to go Cool. My Sony previously I use cool. Not sure if it is my eyes or what, ever since my c8 broke down and changed with a new c8 oled panel early this year, I find the picture better despite same setting. Anyway I use Cinema setting with neutral instead of warm 1 or 2.

Sorry for another post asking for advice here, I plan to buy a sound bar soon to go with my C8. Thinking of going for LG Sl10y around 3.5k or Yamaha 209 budget around 1.5k.

Any advice and does it help I buy LG tv with LG speaker? Apart for remote control I don't know if got any other added advantage. Strangely LG sl10y doesn't support eARC, so not sure if it can support fully Netflix dolby atmos. Yamaha one doesn't support atmos.

Thanks much for your advice.

how long LG took to change your c8 oled panel?
mine got 3 dead pixel & LG approve already. warranty ends 12 august.
may come next week.
*
It took a couple of weeks as I am from JB and they first changed the back panel, only then change the front panel OLED. For your case it shouldn't matter since they approve the change already. Even if no stock they should honor the replacement. Hope you get the latest C9 panel, I got C8 written on the box.

BTW just curious, how do you prove dead pixel? My Sony TV has one clear dead pixel, my eyes not good enough to scan through since the tv is seldom used. How do you prove it?

why need to change back panel?

LG authorise service agent says LG got stock for c8 panel, so dont think i can get c9. they said c9 panel doesnt work on c8 tv. same goes to c6,c7
you can play the video from youtube, test burn in. it will display red, blue, green, white  full screen. you can see from there.
i took picture of the 3 dead pixel
*
Hmm I don't test the pixel, maybe one day if I spot obvious one before my warranty runs out I will do it. Sometimes just dust... My TV got problem, cannot power up. At first they suspect is back panel issue. Change doesn't work so front change too, resulting in few weeks of delay.

QUOTE(SSJBen @ Jun 30 2020, 04:53 PM)
Generally speaking;

Warm 2 - 6000k
Warm 1 - 6900k
Neutral - 7300k
Cool -  7500k

There are of course some variance from panels to panels, but that's generally what the color temperature is like for the modes. None of the modes are correct actually, "warm 2" is chosen as the most accurate color temp because it is the closest to D65.

People find Warm 1 or even Neutral more pleasing and some might say, more "natural" to the eyes is because human eyes has gotten too used to all the shitty screens that is blaring at our faces everyday.
Netflix gives you lossy DD+ where Atmos is slipstreamed into it. eARC is not needed for that. Regular ARC has enough bandwidth for it.

That brings me to the next issue - why waste of money for that sound bar when Netflix isn't even giving you lossless audio in the first place? If you're dead set on a soundbar, get one that gives you the best 2.1 experience instead. If you want to experience Atmos, do it right - proper ceiling mounted speakers. Otherwise you're just wasting money on a piece of sticker.
*
Thank you for your advice. I guess I will go with Yamaha 209 then. Save 1k plus. Originally wanted to get LG for the surround effect since now they are giving the rear speaker too for the 7.1 experience.
