It is by no means going to replace or match any real calibration with toolkit .
We are always aiming for 6500k for color temperature but there are rarely any commercial display can land right on that number , usually 6400-6600 would be considered very accurate .
In that case , I really doubt an Iphone 12 camera sensor can match a real colorimeter . Even so it probably is using a fairly loose range of numbers to determine the color balance .
Again , calibration requires a reference point , a look up table . How do people know if Iphone 12 or even Samsung Galaxy has an accurate L.U.T ? If it is not , how do you calibrate the Iphone 12 's camera sensor to begin with ? You can't .
Last time I check , displaymate , which is what most mobile brands are using as their display reviews , are posting inaccurate numbers and testing is done on pre-shipped , cherry picked units sent specifically from the brands .
Which is almost as reliable as taking law lesson from Kim Kardashian .
Typical as accurate as most OLED TVs are out of the box , they don't require too much work on color balance , unfortunately the same can't be said for B9 and BX.
TL;DR : Nice feature but I would not call it a " calibration " , more of a quick examination . Probably works best on cheaper TV such as the ABCs from China , a place where red looks purple , green looks yellow .
Off course it can’t be replace with Pro Calibration. Just fun to use it and to know is quite good colour balance.
Those Facebook group user that get calibrate is happy with the result.
Majority user won’t ask for Pro Calibrator. 🙃
