That guy from Jiaja (the Sabahan entry to the recent season of Blast-Off) was pretty good, too. Strong Jimi Hendrix influences in his playing.

hehe.. seriously I don't think there is any best guitarist in the world nor even in Malaysia.. all these really down to preference....
so it is more about what u like.. and it is hard to compare to guitarists like Steve Vai and Yngwie when both are totally different type of guitarists. hehe

but i will say for local.. I prefer a few great players here
Sham Kamikaze
Man Kidal
Zack Kim....
and Johan which is my friend as well...

i think there are still alot of hidden "big things" here.. juz nvr get to see them.. and recently we get to know one of the "big thing".. hisham aka samtriggy..

Mmm..i guest the word "best" should also includes those of multi genre, skills and versatility.

Having seen various named mentined and the best, i would go for this low-profile dude...Samtriggy @ Hisham Left Right for the following reasons: -

1) He can play either with Right and Left Hand
2) He can shreds among the best of them, with either Left or Right Handed.
3) He can play with 2 guitars (tap) with far more Oooomph than most those 2 guiutar tappers.
4) He plays all type of music, including jazz.
5) He produces his own music
6) He can play 3 guitars at one go ( 2 hands and 1 foot - melody, chord/bass line and rift via foot
5) He plays the OUD too damn well ... that 12-strings ancient instrument!!

Mmmm....see if there's another like him out there.

I've always ignored Blast Off when it is on Tv....it is really a game show rather than finding new talents...

But when you mentiond Jiaja I remembered a band (Jiaja) playing (The King) Hendrix's Voodoo Child while performing at the stupid by the artificial sea side at Sunway...Damn I've never knew who even entered this show but this Jiaja band and their singer really made me look at the TV for the first time of Blast Off....but when they finished, I again was on my headphones, pluggin in the guitar blasting the 22 fret and bending.... rclxms.gif

writing a 3 chord song is nothing, but if majority of the local music listener prefer that way, then cannot do much lah.

Writing a 3 chord song is of course nothing, thats obvious, but can you write a good one that million of listeners would love to hear and buy your album? If you haven't been writing hit songs in your life before, then most likely you Can't. If you can, prove it. Same goes to shredding, anyone can shred. Anyone can play guitar. Other than that, you can't change what most people wants to hear, and what most people want to hear is in the radio right now. But I do think the quality of the 3 chord songs on the radio nowadays are really dropping compare to the 1990s, 3 chord songs were way better in those days, hear once and you would love it, nowadays songs have to hear a couple dozens of times before you like it.

Everyone is good in their own special way. . .

No one is better than another because no one person is the same. . .

And what more everyone has different opinions and tastes to music . . .

But IMO we have alot of good talent but because of the Malaysian mentality of MTV generation, we guitarists are heading towards a decline. . .

But comparing us to other countries, we still have a very long way to go, because the Government is still not really supportive of us musicians and we have no real good exposure to real guitar music.

DVS, Alex Peters, Fasy, Zack, Sham Kamikaze, Metalasia, these are the ones that will continue to raise the bar and more will pick up the flame, we just need to pool together and get the best out of each other since our community is very small.

In years to come we may be able to reach the heights of other countries where music has been far longer in their culture then us.

I for one am very happy that there are people like Blacktrix and co settign this up for us to be able to share our minds and music together.

Cheers and Kudos to you guys! Keep it up!

Who knows, one of us could be the next great individual who would bring guitar playing back to its glory days!

I have continued this short "article" at another thread:
