Battery life is really good for me. Can take me till the night, with plenty of messaging and calls through the day. I dont game so much, but besides that, i can go home after gym at 8/9 with at least 20% on the phone remaining.

I just found out how Mi5 can read fingerprint to unlock screen..

1) Screen Off - Need to "PRESS HOME BUTTON".. everybody knows this

2) Screen On - Just put finger on home button "WITHOUT PRESSING" it..

Some review said is QC 2.0 charger only, AP set is sure QC 3.0 charger
U can read from the charger model:
If is MDY-03-EB model, it's Xiaomi Quick Charge 2.0 Charger
If is MDY-08-EH model, it's Xiaomi Quick Charge 3.0 Charger which is now selling at China only and seems you can only get this at the AP set of Mi 5 since although they are using QC 3.0 certificated IC (Power Integrations SC0163D) but then they still not listed at the Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 supported accessories.

Quick Charge enabled Xiaomi chargers model list:
1) MDY-03-EC Input 100-240V, Output 5V/2A, Normal Charger
2) MDY-08-EF Input 100-240V, Output 5V/2A, Normal Charger
3) MDY-03-EB Input 100-240V, Output 5V/2A or 9V/1.2A or 12V/1A, Quick Charge 2.0

So it's same with the local Mi Note quick charger which is only Quick Charge 2.0 charger

and strangely the bundled usb type c cable seems to not charge or charge very slow via my laptop usb port

but via the bundled charger it went from 20% to 90% in a bit over 1 hour

Well laptop/desktop USB 2.0 port normally only up to 0.5A only, while USB 3.0 up to 0.9A only, what you expect?
Only charger got some special design to detect the voltage different from D+/D- pin then select which mode they wan to charge

Hi people, need some help. Long story short, I changed 3 ROMs in one day from China Beta ROM to China Stable ROM to Global beta ROM and back to China stable ROM.....don't ask why...too much experiment until now I can not factory reset the phone because error message "unable to verify the phone"
a. My sim card function is "light grey". Show no sim card insert.
b. My Xiaomi account still "log in" but can not log out.

Please help.

Maybe u need emergency solution:
1) download this, this is the aboot partition of the 7.2.4.0 which the fastboot mode still can access the edl mode:

2) reboot ur phone to fastboot mode
3) at ur pc with fastboot access provided, type this(this one can be flash even in locked bootloader):
fastboot flash aboot emmc_appsboot.mbn
4) reboot ur device to fastboot again with this command:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
5) type this command, see the “bootloader status” got appears or not:
fastboot oem device-info
6) if got then type this, as soon as u type, press and hold vol+ and vol- button together.
fastboot oem edl
7) assuming you had already installed mi flash, your pc is able to detect as the Qualcomm loader with COM port show, download ur fastboot ROM and put to Mi flash to flash, remember to select flash all script and "flash all" before you flash
