Samsung have the special rights now... cos SD820 also manufactured by them...
now they have the control of all top chipset in mobile industries...

only samsung ppl knows the marking i think... or SD ppl... or XM which uses 3 different kind of chipset... ahaha

hence it will push their edge sales also declare to the world it moving fast and ppl prefer edge... haha...
one of the marketing tactics to play around with figure...

Sadly mi phones have average camera...They are using good lenses meaning Miui software prprocessing isn't as good. Software is the biggest weakness for Chinese phones.
*
after i watch the video... my comments...

Mi5 highlights in the video is too much while S7 is ust nice but color is a bit dull... maybe the Auto white balance already push off by software control...
in carpark frame rate of Mi5 isnt that good...
in super market again u can see the color of S7 is not as vibrant as Mi5 and the texture and details is processed to make your face look fairer and smooth...
at the lake side once again the S7 push the brightness control to brighter, while Mi5 is having a darker image...
at the zoom in clearly S7 is using software image sharpening at least they do it... but Mi5 looks horrible coz it is soft...
while during photo S7 shows a lot of details but i see some sharpening effect... but this time Mi5 camera color isnt that vibrant...

camera good or not, is all individual preference... but i agree with what you said...
their processing software isnt that capable...
but with the money i'm ok with the performance... smile.gif

well hard to say... individual preference... some one want good updates in software and also support...
Last year flagship may not enjoy it anymore... but Mi5 is just this year chipset..
so maybe enjoy more developer to generate its ROM...
but again... see what you want, actually not only SD808, MTK X10 also enough for normal use...

all is user choice of purchase... for me, this few years i always buy phones around RM1000...
maybe Mi5 is the phone which i purchase more than that figure since 3 yrs ago...
midrange phone is good enough for all ppl actually but some ppl like to show off with flagship phones...

how abt using 3rd party cam apps e.g. Camera MX?

i m using OnePlus One and i got different when using Camera MX.
*
i'm not sure as i always stick to stock apps...
it might help, but you must remember the logarithm of the camera is still same...
that is factory flashed, cos all manufacturer got their own say on some settings of the camera..
maybe will some customization on colors and others settings it feels better...

again... i don compare with custom ROM or apps... i always do my comparison base on stock apps...
fair to all ppl coz not all ppl will download and customize the phone...

watched, summary:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Stills:
Main Cam:
S7: 4:3, much more detailed, usually more neutral WB, low light warmer WB overexposed (vase) tiny bit less noise, Captain Phasma WB neutral less noise less detail more exposed less sharp, Flash WB warm sharper more detailed less noise
Mi5: 16:9, loss of details, usually warm WB, low light more neutral WB correct exposure (vase) tiny bit more noise, seem to have focusing issues (hanging patung, tree), Captain Phasma WB warm more noise more detail less exposed more sharp, Flash WB more neutral less sharp less detail more noise

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
BTW i feel that comparing a 4:3 and 16:9 isnt that fair... the user should put both at the same 4:3 ratio to compare... and the native sensor i think is 4:3 instead of 16:9...
but i do agree that Mi5 lose to S7 in stills quality..

Honestly... if the camera is clear and sharp is enough...
got Mi3 or iPhone 6 standard also not bad already...
cannot compare with DSLR haha...
my phone camera is for me to capture some moments without DSLR...
if i got important events surely DSLR is much better in every aspect...

bro remember google before you try to pay for the device...
i actually nearly jump into OnePlus 2... but heard the negative issues so better wait for Mi5...
Redmi Note3 Pro also good but i think if with the 200-300 difference Mi5 better...
coz smaller in size... smile.gif for me 5"~5.3" is perfect for me...

I have been using ip5 for 3 years, and worst it lags on the ios9. That's the reason i still remain on ios7.

i duno why u say slow... my iPad mini 2 retina (since 2014) upgraded to latest firmware... no problem at all...
maybe you factory reset the set in see... i don see any problem...
yes with my mum iP4 with its latest firmware it is slow... but she is ok with it coz it is easy to use...
but the battery is not good already, she already change twice...

QUOTE(demio121 @ Mar 22 2016, 01:07 PM)
the only thing i hate about Xiaomi phone is the ROM.  MIUI is juz not my taste.  i am buying because of the hardware and price.

i got a Mi3 previously.  the hardware is out of this world for the price i pay.  the software is just not up to par.  MIUI is one of the very early ROM and copy heavily from iOS (the menu, the icon).  until today that neva change.

much like the mipad i have.  from day 1, i install Google Now launcher.  if i do get Mi5, i am sure launcher is the first i install.
*
not launcher, MIUI takes too much ram at start up also...
so it is taking more resources, where as if you use google now it is more lighter...
actually MIUI is the concerns which makes me to ditch Mi3 after use for a year...
i hope for Android v5.0 (L) which makes it lighter to run but unfortunately...
it doesn't come when i want to sell off...

Sony firmware is the best as it is near to Vanilla but with skinning...
HTC is also not far behind... my Desire 820s is serving me well for a year dy..
but the battery is giving up soon, i think, cos it doesnt last already...

QUOTE(Tiaso @ Mar 22 2016, 02:01 PM)
yea yea im still a proud owner of Mi3, not much problem, except slow processing on high end games.

google now launcher is for what actually?
*
i sold my Mi3 about a year ago... how is the android v5.0 running, smoothly???
well i do not expect my phone is do wonders on games, as long as it can run CoC smoothly i'm fine with it...

aiks mine MIUI 7, still on android v4.4. It's smooth, only slow processing on high end games.

I also play COC with it only now, but if too many witches, it gets lag  rclxub.gif

still on Androidv4.4???? Bloody LIAR!!!!
they said they will update it to Android v5.0..
shits all the long wait... luckily i sold it off around March last year...

A good example, Mi3 specs SD800 & 2gb ram exactly same as S4 and Nexus 5. From what i see, people with Mi3 and S4 either changed phone or stuck with a laggy phone. Im still using Nexus 5 Android 6.01 and it still runs laps around newer phones and still performs like a new phone. It shows just how heavy Miui and Touchwiz is.
*
i agree with you MIUI is SHITZ heavy and a lot of fanboy doesnt agree about this...
my HTC or my wife Sony with midrange chipset still working fine with Lollipop and 2GB RAM...
my Lumia 535 even best... 1GB RAM the system is as smooth as Mi3...
i don see why Mi3 will have heavy multitasking problem and laggy, thats why i sold it off...

QUOTE(cfa28 @ Mar 22 2016, 04:37 PM)
I think many people who can afford RM1. 5k for a xiaomi flagship can afford to top up another 1k for a Samsung or Sony if they really want to but many don't think it's worth it to pay so much.

Xiaomi has saved a lot on marketing cost but they cannot keep this flash sales SH1T going on for too long.

There are more and more options,  some not as good though like Huawei or even the Samsung A series but at least you can get it...
*
yup.. but again, if this kind of lack of stock goes on it will hurt themselves...
XiaoMi is poor on update firmware, so it is depends on user what they expect from this device...

US review... check out...

http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/03/xia...snapdragon-820/

Comments on MIUI System...
Sigh hope that CM will have a ROM for this
QUOTE
So if you compare MIUI 7 versus stock Android 6.0, you'll lose:

Multi-user support
Lock screen notifications
The document-centric "Overview" screen
Settings search
Google Now on Tap support
Android 6.0's App Permissions system

It's crazy to see a company throw away mostly "free" features like this. MIUI is old, dated, and easily the worst part of the Mi 5.

Conclusion....

The Good

A Snapdragon 820 for an amazing $305.
Build quality worthy of a much more expensive phone.
Fast, accurate fingerprint reader.
USB Type-C.
The camera isn't up to the level of a $700 camera, but for $305, it's pretty good.

The Bad
Broken permissions system allows some apps to slip through without user consent.
Unlabeled "back" and "recent" buttons can be confusing.
No "always on" voice support.
It's a China-only phone, so the LTE bands won't work in most countries.
Glass back is fragile.

The Ugly
MIUI's stagnant interface has made it a feature-killing disaster on Marshmallow.

again it is not fair to compare MOD ROMs with stock one...
and i stress before that i do not want to root and flash my device...
i did that on my DesireZ and Mi3... but were too lazy to do that after that...
i feel the stock rom most of the time is more stable and also they have their concerns to the locked bootloader also...

High end with cheap price compared to others is their only way now. Especially with the way they sell their device. They need to improve on their software , quality control & after sale service if want to demand high price.

Huawei is the only chinese manufacturer that seems to going that way.
*
i agree now their device is cheaper than others but it is not far already...
but their firmware and after sales service i think need very much of improvement...

HuaWei already go to premium grade sometime already but their top range device not much market coz all fill up by Samsung marketing dy...

MY customer base isn't that wide... SG has more buying power and Thai has more population than us...
actually we aren't that GREAT as some SHITZ GoV said...
our broadband is slower than some others ASEAN countries...

BTW... i think Mi5 basic will be less than RM1.5k if not ppl have better option...

i buy because of it size and below RM1500 smile.gif
i'm one of them whom prefer 5" phone... or anything not beyond 5.2"...
used 5.3" and currently 2 units of 5.5" it is really troublesome to carry them...
if i do not buy this definitely i will get iPhone SE... that is because i can pass it to my mum after one year...
coz she want only iPhone, still sticking with her iPhone4 because easy to use and small factor...
