it's possible. to avoid potential interference you should disable it temporarily before  you run windows updates.

windows defender + emet don't affect anything so far.
do you mind to share the failure message? i have done this on different machines via both windows update and offline installer and they worked well.

from a quick search of error code, usually sfc /scannow at administrative command prompt will help resolve the issue. have you tried it?

yes, as long as the new update is cumulative update (cu), you will get all the previous updates also. this is always true for cu, unless they have explicitly declared in their release notes that you need prerequisites.

each av handle things differently. in terms of user friendliness you could say avast is ok, but in terms of security, i would say the way bitdefender protect files and the need of user intervention when necessary is better (at least users are forced to be aware of what is happening) also, check if you have the latest compatible bitdefender. normally disabling av before updates and turn it back on after that should be ok. if it's not, then you can still find out if there are solutions for you at bitdefender support forum. (if it's a bug, someone might already have reported it before you)

you can, using .msu version ( https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=81403840 ). but first read this, https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/powershell...n-in-kb3176932/ . if you use such features, you should wait for the next update.

There's something wrong with my language settings. The basic typing keep downloading but it never have any progress.
Windows keep popping up the message all day, "We are adding some new features to windows, this will take a few minutes" on the lower right corner.

After that, it will pop up a new message, "Something happened, and we couldn't install a feature".

Few minutes later, it will pop up the 1st message again.

Clicking into the optional feature history, you can see a whole list of install failed message.

.. i think you have tried long enough, since no one else is giving you a working solution. it's better to do a clean install and move on.

Yea i notice that too, but those 4 install is the one having problem. if you look at first 4, it says install succeeded at 1/1/1601 and then followed by install failed at 31/8/2016. It's a long list of the same 8 things repeating itself.

Searching online, people seems to say that it has something to do with setting the wifi to metered connection, which i did change back to unmetered but it still doesn't solve the problem.

EDIT: i changed to non-meter, then meter, and then non- meter again and it seems to be solved after a few restart.

well yeah a clean install should always be treated as the last option.

most of the common ways to resolve your issue have been tested. obviously something is still wrong in your system that prevents you to do update/upgrade, without error codes or anything that should present.

if you want, you can have one last try: install the latest cumulative update (KB3186988, linked above).
