Planning to grab amazon firestick since it's listed in Netflix to be able to stream full hd. Should be enough for my 1080p tv

yes,2 screens with HD,and yes you can access malaysia netflix with canadian account.

1.first you need VPN(for example tunnelbear)to switch your region from MY to CA.

2.then signup your netflix account by accessing to netflix canada website.

3.their standard package is CAD9.99 which around MYR31+

4.then your netflix account will be under canada region.

5.if you want to watch other region netflix, you'll need smart DNS or VPN.

6.if you want to watch malaysia netflix only, then you don't need any smart DNS or VPN,and you still pay under CAD smile.gif .which cheaper than paying RM42.
*
Definitely a lot cheaper with CAD
Which vpn service you're using now?

So guys, with Netflix now in Msia, im thinking of getting a sub for my parents so they can watch it.

But our tv is a normal HDTV, not smart TV. Whats the best/cheapest way to be able to get Netflix/Iflix on this tv?

Chromecast? Means using phone as a remote, right? Will it drain Phone Battery? Sorry new tech for me. Any input or links go read up more is appreciated.
*
Have you considered roku or firetv stick?
Unless your parents using of the devices listed here

https://help.netflix.com/en/node/23939

They won't be getting any more than 480p streaming only

Thanks for the info!
Roku or Fire TV Stick dont have these issues?
What if use laptop? Will it cast in 1080p then? with Chromecast?

*
Both devices are certified to stream at 1080p
Last time I check, depending on the browser
Chrome/Firefox only can stream to 720p only
On Microsoft IE11/ Edge, you can stream to 1080p
But I'm not sure how to cast Netflix from Microsoft edge/ie11

*Using a pc.. Download the native Netflix app for Windows, send media to Chromecast. Use IE/Edge browser, select title to play, send to Chromecast..
*Using a phone or tablet.. Open Netflix app on phone scroll or search for title to play.. Send to Chromecast. You'll get full HD as Google's Chromecast is Netflix certified.

Do not simply buy any android box & expect full 1080p with surround sound. You'll not get it unless the box is CERTIFIED by Netflix. Read around here, it's been mentioned several times.. If you don't want to use phones or pc to cast etc, get a Roku or Nvidia Shield TV or Amazon fire TV box or Fire stick. These 3 are fully supported & have their own clean UI.. Check YouTube for videos.. There are tons there.. Don't waste your money.
*
Bro, on those android box/stick certified by Netflix
Is there an easy way to get some quality indication settings on the display?
Other than viewing Netflix test video that shows the resolution/bitrate

TM started throttle Netflix already?

now stuck at 288p sad.gif

I pretty much had to force the 1080p quality in the hidden setting (4300/5800kbps). Otherwise it keeps jumping to different streaming quality.
I wonder why some high budget movies like Man Of Steel doesn't have hd quality (up to 1750kbps only)

well i use both ps4 and android phone to test it out, yesterday was pretty pixelated, ps4 showing the quality as 288p, occasionally will up to 388p

before that both can achieve 720p on a 4mbps streamyx line

Is there a way to get into the hidden settings on console/android app? I'm mostly streaming netflix on pc using the windows netflix app.

Well, that's not good
Hopefully those dns/vpn providers find a way to bypass that
Btw, I think someone mentioned here that HD not available for Inception on the windows apps version of netflix
I tried watching it on my firetv stick, and HD quality is available for that one
Guess netflix prioritize media streamers like roku/fire tv hmm.gif

it's about netflix's 4k uhd certification:

They could've given the netflix windows app full hd at least, but no it's only at 480p quality for certain movies.
Looks like they're really picky about certified devices for HD streaming.

yep, from what i understand, only certain smart tv's (1080p, not 4k) direct netflix app get hd (not ultra hd).

list of certified tv brands and models here.
https://help.netflix.com/en/node/13444
my 4k sharp model does not support it! laugh.gif

i only get 480p upscaled! biggrin.gif

that's why i will not continue. just cancelled, free trial still allowed until expiry.
*
Haha, they really to need to note that in the terms and condition for 4k subscription
All that restriction and pirates still rips shows from their site anyway tongue.gif

How do you know you're only getting 480p? Any quality indicator or just judging from the video quality

Which free vpn are you using for us shows?
Also, anyone using netflix app on windows 10?
It keeps on crashing whenever I manually select quality

Anyone know any fast us dns vpn for streamyx?
I've tried unotelly, getflix, tvunblock and they all max out at around 3mbps on my 8mbps streamyx.
Without dns no problem streaming 720p/1080p at >6-7mbps but less content on msian netflix.

Tried the same dns setting on unifi and it can stream up to 9mbps easily for 1080p content. Obviously streamyx and unifi are two different service but it still bugs me out how I'm limited to only 3mbps downstream.

Any other streamyx users care to share your experience?

I was looking for ways for better netflix streaming and somebody mentioned qos

I turned on the qos feature on my router and have it prioritize my firetv stick ip address. The difference is absolutely amazing when using it, less buffer time when starting videos and streams to hd in seconds.

Most importantly is no more sudden drops to blurry sd quality mid scenes and that was already on unifi. Using xiaomi router btw and tvunblock dns.

Yeah, sticking to the current plan.. I've actually not really taken advantage of iflix, especially since they offered Unifi subscribers free access for a year. It's been awhile and I've still not had enough free time to watch "Black Sails" on iflix. As per the rest... No comment..  brows.gif

I will say, I developed a new found liking for Korean action movies on Netflix.. Also, Kublai Khan & Hundred Eyes...  thumbup.gif

What's the maximum quality for iflix videos now?
1080p? Got subtitles now for the tv show/movies?
Haven't used it since the early days of beta trial iflix

Is it cheaper there?
I just bought mine from lelong
Be sure to set the stick on high priority for qos setting
That way it streams to hd quicker and no more sudden drops to sd.

Full HD good enough for me as I only subscribe to 30Mbps package and don't have a 4K TV.

My main goal is to get the surround sound.

If it can play back Samba share I might also retire my HiMedia Q5 Quadcore.
*
It can definitely handle streaming 1080p mkv on samba nicely with kodi on wireless connection.
I've only tested mkv files around 8gb - 18gb and they play smoothly.
Just be sure to have the router nearby or repeater
