i state what is best for consumers. PS3 is late and overpriced, less software. What does that translate for consumers. The BD PC drive is $2999 while the HD DVD "PC drive" is $730. Both are doing the same thing. Both display the maximum 1080p. Both do lossless tracks. Again, why would consumers pay double for a product when they are doing the same thing!

Why? LOTR of course! It is after all THE single most important factor in any purchase. The attraction of the ring is too strong. One rootkit to rule them all.

Oi!! LOTR will most definitely appear on HD DVD. Anyhow, all three of my extended LOTR are all in 4-disk sets. I need time to go to take a piss during the disk change period anyway. Most probably we will see multiple disk sets for both LOTR HD DVD and BD. so no worries, you will have your HD DVD LOTR fix. cool2.gif

LOTR is one OF the most important release to watch out for, due to its unique nature, of length and content. Couple that with the studio that bar no expense on quality when it comes to these titles, that's why it is important. We can all be cynics, but it doesnt earn anyone any longer e-penises. whistling.gif

And oh, i dont think you need to deal with rootkits on consumer players, those are specially made for you "PC people" laugh.gif. Consoles FTW anyone?

Simply put like this lah, those who love to speculate like aunties coming back from wet market after buying fish and vegetables, stay and the sideline and spectate. Those who wanna experience what already available, consider all your options. Nobody said being early adopters going to be cheap. There are those willing to take the plunge early, and there are those who b****es and moans and speculates while they wait for their "justification" price level. It's either you play it boringly safe, or live life on the edge. Nothing wrong with both of them.

in other words, "money talks" lah tongue.gif .. i would say that all these 'talks' would make giant corps such as Sony, Toshiba think that consumers that not just some brain dead money spending zombies who buy everything in the market without question.

Your arguments are getting very weak in case you haven't noticed.

1. Not everyone can afford to be cynical, it takes a certain amount of wit to be good at it.

2. Consoles or not was beside my point completely. I will not support a company that has attempted to use clandestine and illegal means to tell me what i can and cannot do with my purchases. The past is a good indication of the future, history repeats itself. This is my main beef with Sony. I see blu ray as just another means of them trying to control consumers. It's quite clear to me what will happen if they win the format war. They will simply legalize their techniques via the format specification itself.

3. There is nothing to speculate right now. Speculation is for when both formats were not out yet. Now we have everything upon us. There is nothing wrong with picking a side. Choice is a good thing.

4. I was in no way bashing early adopters. Not even sure how this got brought into the picture. Probably lack of coherent arguments elsewhere forced it. But just to reiterate, i am not against early adopters at all. You are the people who will make me rich, so by all means buy and support the advancement of (good) technology.

5. I am cutting edge, so no point if i don't cut laugh.gif

Since when does this thread becomes one's personal mission against something? It was nice and civil when it was about the format, until personal preferences, and whinings about corporate conducts starts coming into view. IF you have nothing to bring to the table, then .... whistling.gif

I could care less about rootkits and whatever clandestine methods Sony has against you and your past mishaps, the thread is meant to discuss the merits and demerits about both formats. If you have whatever PERSONAL beef with Sony, keep it personal and keep it in the right section, a.k.a the PC section. This thread serves more of discussion about the format and what they offer. I dont see any attempts by Sony to bludgeon bluray with more rootkits and whatnots. If you're b****ing about rootkits and all, you're barking at the wrong mountain, coz this mountain basically dont care. If the reason why you came to the table is for the sake of "cutting", then i guess we all know where some of us get their kiddy glees now, dont we? rolleyes.gif

At least G5sim's argument i can tolerate , although i could do less with his tone of post. Certain others come here for their vendetta against a certain big corporation and his past mishaps with it, and hating it solely because of it. Basing one incident and tying it on another to justify one's act against it, is at best, far fetched and baseless. I can tie Microsoft and their poor way of handling Windows OS with their support to HD-DVD and hate them all for it, but is it wise? Sometimes i wonder if it is just because it is "cool" to be hating on certain things, and how the sense of belonging to that group of people makes one blindly hate for the sake of hating itself.

As for this thread, im afraid it has become one-man's show of a viral campaign against all things Sony, rather than the actual intentions of this thread itself. I could care less about what's happening in the PC side of things, so dont bring that convoluted mess into this thread, for your own personal viral campaign. The chances of anything like that rootkit event happening on a dumb OS-less player like a consumer standalone Bluray player is next to zero.

Since this thread has veered from its purpose, rather than what it is intended to be, and to avoid blowing up the egos a certain few individuals in here for his oh-its-too-easy-im-filled-to-the-brim-with-wittiness-i-just-need-to-show-it one man showmanship in here, there is no point keeping it open, other than to serve some other twisted personal agendas rather than talking about the topic at hand. Im closing this thread.
