Now lately we see a lot cheap LCD TV launching...

On one side, i see a Samsung 32"LCD TV selling for RM3999.00 and another side i see another Samsung LCD TV same size selling RM4999.00

Mmmmm.. when we're buying a LCD TV.. what details should we look into before choosing one and don't end up regretting later..

Quick summary
-Supports HDMI
-True HDTV and "not" HDTV-Ready
-Viewing angle
-Supports 720p and 1080i is a must (if got 1080p better still)
-Good response time (6ms or less)

I bought Samsung LA32R7 few weeks ago. Don't see any problem so far. No complaint for my xbox360 gaming and DVD movie.

u cant go wrong if u choose the Bravia....the Aquos...or the pixel plus 2......it just depend on ur budget...but the aquos have 2 hdmi as a std.... the 42inc one supprt 1080P....so far only 1 company that have support 1080P for 32 lcd....cant remember which...coz i read on engadget....it said that its the world 1st 1080p for 32inc lcd........but for that size,u can hardly differentiatekan the i and the P.......so...1080i will suffice...

But Sony uses Samsung panels. So its actually a rebadged Samsung but of course Bravia engine la. Having said that, the new Samsung Dnie II is amazingly great engineering. Just one thing, if you're gonna watch astro on lcd TVs be it Sony,Toshiba or Samsung, dont have high hopes of the quality as astro is SD, unlike 360 which is HD.
If u have the time, head up to Harvey Norman at Ikano power center, they have all the major branded LCD TVs side by side so you have a true experience to compare yourself.

Try to get one with a high contrast ration, like my Samsung 40R71B has a 5000:1 constrast ratio. The colors appear brighter than previous samsung models which explains why the 2 samsung models are of different prices.

Game mode doesn't effect the gameplay at all. In fact in some games like PDZ it actually made it worst and darken some surroundings (hence hard to see enemies).

Bought the Bravia V-series 40". Present promo which all the local Sony dealers carry comes with a decent home theater package with 5.1 speakers and 5 disc DVD changer. A few variants are available. All for below RM10k.

Quite a decent deal IMHO.

Agree. If it's true it's selling for RM7599, i'll ask my dad to buy 2 haha

Anyway, if ur eyes cant differentiate between the resolution, i dont think it's necessary to get a 1080p. Like me, i cant even differentiate between 720p and 1080i

It all looks the same laugh.gif

I just recently bought a Philips 42" LCD and no doesn't have 1080p as it out of my budget. From my experince of buying do the following

1. View the TV as you would if you view at home.
2. Look at the back see the configuration most have 2 hdmi and 1 component and 2 composite and maybe VGA or 1 hdmi, 2 component and 2 composite and maybe VGA (Philips has the first configuration)
3. Look at the contrast ratio and be aware when the Samsung says 5000:1 its not always 5000:1 as it is dynamic and it may vary.
4. If you can ask the dealer to throw in a HDMI cable. I manage to with my Philps and got a dvd player with hdmi output as well.
5. Are you going to mount it or have it on the table with a stand. For some you have to pay extra for the mount. In the case of the Philips it comes with both.

Right now have my 360 on VGA, my PS3 on hdmi, my dvd on hdmi and my Wii to come will be on component so the Philips made sense to me although one can't deny the sleekeness of the Samsung.

From my own view of Samsung vs Philips the former seemed washed out and not so detail if you look clearly compared to the Samsung. If you want to know why the Samsung looks so bright and vibrant its cause of the overcontrast. Philips has a more natural look in colors. But hey that is my own eyes, for some the Samsung looks better biggrin.gif

I got mine for RM7,800 with free hdmi cable, free dvd thrown in with divix capability and usb slot and the wall mount was free. Good buy i reckon and if i had the dough would have gone with the Philips new model which had 1080p looked better then the Bravia X in my opinion

@Silencer,

I got it at Desa Home Theatre in Low Yat Plaza, but before heading there I went to Harvey Norman at Ikano Power to do some viewing. Spent over 20 mins looking at comparsion and stood at the distance I would normally play/watch. Price was RM7800 for my Philips with all the bundle and the 1080p was going for RM16k but didn't bother to negotiate as way out of my budget at Desa (uses the Ambient technology and Pixel plus 2). Harvey will give you the 5 year warranty but Desa will give the 1+1 year warranty. I figuered by the end of my 2 years I will need to change again as 1080p would be more prevailent.

I thought I wanted to get myself a Samsung but changed my mind.

Just got myself JVC 32" (JVC LT-Z32FX6). Support 480/720/1080p. 6/ms response time. 32-bit graphics chip. Got it for 4699 (with free JVC dvd player) from Best Denki. Comes with 2-HDMI, 2-VGA and 2-Component ports. Plus this LCD TV have the best speakers for it's range.

Is there any difference using VGA/Component cable for Xbox360?
