Is this thread still active? I still having ' moisture build up ' and condensed into water and coming out of the seams between floor and side cover ( not sure what's called )....

Was that the previous picture? I was thinking of rotting but did not comment since not sure if it was something else smile.gif

The first thing that you need to do is to find out what is the cause of condensation. It looks like there is leakage somewhere. What is behind the wall? Is there bathroom?

No point to repair the flooring if the cause is not solved.

Theres a bedroom behind the wall. I guess is humidity from the subfloor?

Normally before they lay the laminated floor, a plastic layer is laid and the foam sheet as sound absorber.

When I got my laminated floor replaced, the plastic was like a bit sticky and damp but that was not the under side. The flooring board was still fine.

What about the seams between the flooring plank and side cover? Mine seems to ooze water...
> is yours tile/marble?

There's a foam sheet ( white ) when i laid mine last November.... SPC on top, foam underneath only... no plastic sheet or anything....

Only rooms has this kind of problem.... Outside where Living room and dining hall is dry. no sign of water condensation...
If i slit a paper between the seams, the paper is wet....  confused.gif , I got a video recorded... to show to the Installer when he comes after MCO.

Could this be humidity that comes from subfloor ?
> My furniture ( 3 tier shelf ) most bottom part where it's kissing floor shown signs of water damage , not because of mop ( super careful when moping on not touching it ), that was before laying SPC flooring... when it was still marble floor, and that particular area always feel kind of cold to touch.

Now i drill some holes on the side cover to let it breath, hahaha.... I tried to seal it with silicone, but then the water ooze out from the plank ( near the side cover where the foam didn't cover that plank's edge near to the wall ) , is my guess...

It is still new. Mine is more than 10 years already biggrin.gif

I wonder what makes the floor wet.Like humidity high but should not cause this. Seems like that the hall or the other side of the wall is much colder all the time but hot room laugh.gif

I have no idea what cause it. Let's see what the contractor say.

Hi guys,

The solid timber flooring for my near 10yo house is peeling here and there. It use to be those smooth matte finish.

Is it possible to renew it back to like-new condition? What are the better options?

Thanks

I think it will be sanded by machine, filling gaps and varnished again.

safe to use ? why alot articles out there suggest not to use steam mop, because of the moisture may destroy the wood

Why need to steam? Easier than just mopping it?

I was at an expensive hotel some years ago and I love the feel of the wood floors. But I am sure it is very costly. So downscale laminated.

I have looked at a few brands. How much should I pay for 12 mm, E1, ac4 Robina which includes skirting, workmanship?

Is it worthwhile to pay extra for engineered wood? But still won't get solid wood.

On the wood feeling
Hardwood > Engineered Wood > Laminate

On scratch resistance and hardness
Laminate > Engineered Wood > Hardwood

Engineered Wood is usually real high grade wood layer on top of plywood. For me the laminated is just fine. My parent house is hardwood. So, growing on house made of wood laugh.gif Now my house is 100% laminated except for just bathroom smile.gif

This probably help.

Thank you for the video. That helps a lot. But do we have 'luxury vinyl plank' in Malaysia?

I think I'll stick to laminate. In my old place, I installed ceramic tiles thinking I could buy the place, but can't afford it. I could kick myself, should have installed laminate.

Some people like tile but I hate cold feet. Changing tile can be more expensive then just putting the laminated flooring. The waterproof one use plastic composite and will have no problem with water. I use normal laminate and once there was a leak in the kitchen and the laminated floor become swollen. Later they dried up leaving gaps and bit curvy on the edge, making it felt like real wood laugh.gif

Now got them replaced. You can check online for sales. They can be very cheap like just around RM4+ per square feet. Way cheaper than tiling the floor. Removing old tiles even as much costly. My replacement was using Floor Depot. They always have sales online laugh.gif
