At here, let me introduce some details for Laminate Flooring.
1) Top layer- Anti Abrasive Protective Overlay In market, this layer normally is use to compare the GRADE of the Laminate Flooring. Such like AC2, AC3, AC4, AC5 What is the different? This layer is to differentiate the level of Anti-Scratching.
2) 2nd Layer- Melamine Decoration Film This layer is what design and what colour we looking for. So, it is pattern layer.
3) 3rd Layer- The Core (HDF- High Density Fiber board) It is almost the heart of the Laminate Flooring
4) Bottom Layer- Balancing Sheet This Sheet is to protect the board that wont like Real Wood will easily jump out.

QUOTE(Pebbie @ Dec 18 2015, 05:02 PM) any comment on Robina laminate? Going to issue PO next week but not really sure on the quality as Inovar is 40% more expensive due to small area. As i know, this 2 brand is self manufature in Malaysia, So the quality is not big different. Just Inovar laminate flooring size is bigger and just them got, because their machine is different. Actually normally all laminate flooring is same type and create from the 4 layer. So branded is just to make it cost higher.

QUOTE(phoenixxx @ Dec 18 2015, 05:13 PM) I'm choosing between solid / timber flooring vs laminate. Halfway doing research, any reason why I should choose one over another? Let me list some of their benefit and un for you. Solid timber wood flooring- That look real and all pcs will different colour because its is depends on it nature colour. but it easily scratch, about 3-5 years u need to polish and reput the water oil to let it shining back. and price is expensive depends which wood u choosing. Laminate Flooring- It design repeat but because it got a laminate and anti scratch on the top so it can have the anti scratch result. it can use about 15-20 years or longer base on the grade u choose( AC2-5). But price cheaper. But as i know, Floor depot got a series that LAminate flooring with Real wood LAminate.. mean like 2 in 1~ Real Wood Laminate at the top, with HDF board. it also every pcs different colour coz nature.

I was in this position a couple of years ago and chose solid timber over laminate for two reasons: 1 It looks and feels much better. 2 It is more durable. When the finish gets worn down and you get scratches etc, you can grind and refinish the whole floor a couple of times, depending on the thickness of the boards. For me the only advantage of laminate flooring was that the prep of the subfloor was minimal and the whole process of laying the floor can take place over the course of one day. I suppose you can also replace scratched laminate boards as needed if you can find matching pieces.

EDIT: Just realized I posted solid wood info on Laminate topic... TS if you want me to remove, pls let me know, otherwise I leave it here. Sorry for off topic Just sharing some pricing on solid wood based on my research. One thing that stick out is the 20mm belian is really heavy. The rest weigh like cheap plywood in comparison. Really a lot to learn about all these different kind of wood My house lighting = yellow Left pic = without flash Right pic = with flash Hope you guys can see the difference
