actually...u are confusing now....if u study CFA, Level 1 and Level 2 are likely more focusing in accounts....thats y u should have very strong enough for your accounting knowledge basic....only Level 3 is likely more focusing in financial....Accounts is the basic of financial....should bear in mind on that.... smile.gif

u can refer to this earlier post where Topace has commented in details...

Base on the course outline, I think CFA is more on technical theory of Finance, not so much about Accounts. wink.gif

a person who without the knowledge on how financial statements to be created...then how he or she can analyse the financial of the company and do decision making..???? hmm.gif

Put it like this, a finance people without any accounting background or experience may lose out in long run.
Its bcos without accounting knowledge, analysis of financial datas will be quite difficult to digest. That is why CFA level 1 and level 2 is mostly accounting rather than finance. That is why there is no such thing as Bachelor in Finance in any university, you may have accounting & finance or finance management but never finance, the content is too much for any graduates.

There is no such thing as choice when comes to learning, you may also learn both (after completing either one of course).

Anyway, I am doing CCP and there's nothing about accounting, mainly economics and finance theory.

But I have never taken CFA, not sure how much topics relevant to accounting, so I'm still open for discussion; However, even if CFA consists of heavy accounting, firstly CFA accepts members from non-accounting background so there shouldn't be any possible reason that a member can't handle the exam, secondly, I don't think I can't cope with it if I'm willing to learn from beginning.

accounting is essential but its only part of the cfa syllabus.....there are other equally - if not more - important aspects of finance/investment analysis, such as ethics, economics, equities, fixed income, derivatives, portfolio management......these subjects have little to do with accounting......

Ya.. that's what I mean.

CFA or CCP have much less to do with Accounting, according to the syllabus, else they won't be accepting candidates from non-accounting background to enroll. Data analysis has much to do with some format and formula, that's only a brief and fundamental skill to be covered in these programs.

Also, if there's a will, there is a way to complete the course.

But Zennix is very cute, she said I might get confused so she explained a whole paragraph to me but at the end of the explanation, she asked you if she has got her say correctly.. biggrin.gif

The figures I quoted are in RM terms, after converting from USD. The tests are usually held in June (for Levels I, II and III) and Dec (Level I only) in Sunway Exhibition Centre, Sunway Pyramid.
You only get the books on registration for the exams. The exam fees include the cost of the books, so whether it's advisable or not depends on whether you've already decided to take the exams or not.

Hi Mayomythical,

Do you take classes when you first started on CFA? Or self-study is sufficient?
Understand Kasturi is offering classes for CFA.

CFA is designed as a self-study programme.

Hi... I never took any classes for my two previous CFA levels. Not planning to take any for Level III either.

By the way, I started with a law degree so one can pick up the skills along the way, if you're diligent and proactive enough. Having said that, it did help that I was a junior at an investment bank at the time, which also meant I had crash courses in accounting and financial analysis on a daily basis!

i dont think there is an MBA for Food.

MBA = Masters in Business Administration.

Maybe you should search for Msc = Masters in Science ? If i'm not mistaken food falls under science category.

Btw does or has any one taken MBA from AEU? what do you think of the Uni?

and does any one knows which uni offers Mec ? Masters in Economics besides LSE UK in Malaysia ?
