With MBA, you can straight away jump to module 6 for CFP course.
*

Just to clarify; Mod 6 is a case study paper. This means that you will not be learning anything new. The paper assume you have already covered theory from Mod 1-5.

In Mod 6, it is mainly teaching you how to present / write a integrated/comprehensive Financial Plan for your client based on lessons learned in earlier modules.

Good luck to both Debby and Xuzen in your respective fields. I always think that we should always look to learn new things, 'coz otherwise we're just going to stagnate and go bad. smile.gif

Yeah, in slightly more than four months I'll be taking the Level III exams, and hopefully pass and become a CFA charterholder.

It's been a long and tiring journey, with two fails along the way.. tongue.gif

good luck mate! u'll probably find L3 a breeze compared to L1 & 2. L3 can goreng....... rclxms.gif

I heard someone said CFA is not easy to pass, furthermore you got to study like no tomorrow.

think it depends a lot on the way you study - whether u r a consistent worker or crammer and whether u r taking tuition or not. i self-studied, took time off from work (about 2/3 weeks) and slammed it all in in one go...... rclxub.gif worked for me rclxm9.gif

IBBM does offer CFA? Are you sure?

Are the text books think enough? Slammed in one go? Means you took all three Levels in one year?

hahaha....u sound like an auditor tongue.gif...got to have a minimum number of students though.....

http://www.ibbm.org.my/files/KR_IC_col.aspx

i bought a set of photocopied schweser notes (i think there were 6 books) and read them cover-to-cover like 3 times and made sure i understood everything. there can be no doubts cos the MCQs were very tricky. u need to know your stuff inside out.

wah, u so look me up ah??? notworthy.gif no la, 1 level per year ......what i meant was that i cramped the entire year's syllabus in 2/3 weeks and went for the exam rclxub.gif

Thanks for sharing!

I'm hesitating if to take CFA or not 'cos my master program commence in July this year....

Ya, if you would tell me you did all 3 papers in 1 year, I would believe, too, why not?

you intend to do the mba programme at Help issit?

whether to do the mba or cfa depends a lot on what u intend to do in the longer term. i'd say the cfa is technical, rigorous and perhaps more prestigious (good if you wanna be an analyst/fund management etc). on the other hand, the mba (finance) is certainly more practical and versatile. it gives u a general education in management with emphasis on finance and builds up your network of like-minded mba peers....so u got to weigh it......the cost too....the cfa programme is really very affordable.

oh, btw, cfa malaysia is doing a preview lecture by stalla on 2 Feb....http://www.cfamalaysia.org/default.aspx
you might wanna drop by to get a flavour of the cfa.

wah, i so convincing ah? its not possible. L1 (2 exams per year), L2 & L3 (1 exam per year). So, the fastest you can pass the programme is 2.5 years.

Hi everyone smile.gif

I hold 2 degrees which are Bachelor Honours Degree Corporate Management and Professional Degree (ICSA).

Would like to seek you all advices whether i should pursue further study in ACCA or CFA? As i noticed in lots of job posted ad (like investment line or financial analysis line) that lots of employers such as banks, MNC and etc are likely to hire those with holding ACCA qualification, whereas they are not even stating that they require those with CFA qualification. It tends to show that ACCA is more recognised than CFA in the job market.

In the case of that, i m now really hesitating whether which one i should pursue further if I hope this may eventually be of value in repositioning me for a move into investment and financial industries.

Can anyone advise me??

Really appreciate you all advice smile.gif

ACCA and CFA are 2 different designations.

ACCA is for accounts; CFA is for financial analysis.

cfa is highly specialised and most useful if u wanna be an investment analyst/portfolio manager.

if i were in your shoes, between acca and cfa, i'll go for acca. its not a matter of recognition, its just that most companies do not require or can afford a cfa charterholder whereas almost every decent company out there requires an accountant.

if after a few years u wanna do financial analysis, its not a problem even though u don't have a cfa......financial accountants, especially those with industry experience, make damn good investment analysts! thumbup.gif

debbie, what's your professional background like?

Hi Willy

Thanks for your advice..Really appreciate it.... thumbup.gif

In the event that i m still young where i think i should continue to complete some papers lefted in ACCA.

In future, only decide whether go for CFA or MBA sponsored by company (if any).

Am i making the decision wisely? icon_idea.gif

Somehow too versatile is not good. sweat.gif

I hope to become a PR in a bank but 'cos I don't have necessary finance knowledge, ya... I'm just eligible to be a PR to any industry but not Finance. wink.gif
