What about MBA in Multimedia University? The price looks quite cheap.

I checked few places. Most the classes held on weekends even the full-time. Haiihh. I prefer on weekdays because weekends is for real life social activities.

Is it true that you need to be at least 27 of age and above? No exceptions?

I am below the minimum age, hopefully they don’t mind.

If that's the case, here are the few options you can go for weekdays classes:
1. UTAR
2. University of Nottingham
*
I need 1 more year of working experience to meet the requirement for Nottingham.

How’s the quality for UTAR?

Btw, I just registered for MBA Banking & Finance at Lim Kok Wing. I’m not really sure about the quality over there. Anyone study in LKW for MBA?

I have not known that LKW also offers MBA in Finance and Banking.. LOL

But I know LKW's got common problems other campuses have... rclxms.gif

So, if you want to go for private institution, check out the facilities, lecturers' quality is no longer under your considerations 'cos how much you learn still depend on you yourselves.
*
A ha. Mind to share what are the common problems they have?

Why you never heard about this course in LKW? Most probably it is because LKW is not a well-known for business courses. My house is in between Sunway College and LKW. That's why I choose either one. I don’t like MBA in Sunway because most of the classes held on weekends. I don’t think I can make it.

Actually I believe in myself than the university. From my previous university (the best IPTS during my time) experience, 95% of the knowledge I found it by my own. I only go there just to get the ‘certificate’.

One of the common problems is that "money-sucking". Second is the course consultants are not as professional as other Uni such as Sunway. I don't know how other view course consultants' ethical quality but for me, if a course consultants could not give suitable advice and guidance to someone who's looking for enrollment matters, what can one expects the course quality and reliability has?

Yes agreed. Take initiative to pursue knowledge and not depending on UNI or lecturers. For me, I go for UNI besides for certificate, also because there are lecturers for me to consult with, and I will always make sure the library facilities are good with updated reference books.
*
I thought Sunway College, the library is quite small. But I'm not sure about the books.

*
Which Segi-USQ? USJ Subang Jaya? I heard from others about this college, they said very easy to pass one. Is it true?

There are three exams for CFA. First time registrants have to pay a registration fee on top of the exam fee for Level I. Subsequent exams, you just have to pay the exam fee. I can't remember the exact amount, but it's definitely more than 1k per exam, but exact amount depend on when you register.. the earlier the cheaper. Level 1 fee (including registration) might be more like 3k++.

You can look it up here. You can register at the links provided as well.

Also, the course is meant for self-study, and the course fees already include the books required. You may want to invest in additional books from Schweser for another 1k+ per level, which make studying a lot easier (the CFA curriculum books are very, very, very long-winded).

Good luck!

What about local?

Btw, thanks for sharing the info. =)

QUOTE(debbieyss @ Jan 21 2010, 05:03 PM)
Ya, I'm pretty interested in finance, but I'm not working in banking industry. My MBA in Finance will commence in July and I'm enquiring CFA just for pleasure knowledge.

What are you currently working as?
*
With MBA, you can straight away jump to module 6 for CFP course.

The figures I quoted are in RM terms, after converting from USD. The tests are usually held in June (for Levels I, II and III) and Dec (Level I only) in Sunway Exhibition Centre, Sunway Pyramid.

I mean how to register from local institution? Is there any college you can recommend for? smile.gif

MBA = Masters in Business Administration.

Maybe you should search for Msc = Masters in Science ? If i'm not mistaken food falls under science category.

Btw does or has any one taken MBA from AEU? what do you think of the Uni?

and does any one knows which uni offers Mec ? Masters in Economics besides LSE UK in Malaysia ?

Segi-Greenwich looks interesting. Because Greenwich is a well-known university for business course. But I don't know how good is the quality in Segi.

Hi experts:

I'm currently exploring the possibility of pursuing a MBA (part time). I have a bachelor degree from Campbell and my budget for the MBA should be around 30 - 40k.

From you guys earlier post, it seems the best MBA (obtained locally) is offered by Nottingham U.

I've checked that and it seems it requires GMAT qualification.

Can i ask?
1. I don't have GMAT qualification, what is GMAT and is it worth to obtain them?
2. Is there other reputable MBA which i can explore?

Many thanks for your time.
*
Nottingham is over your budget if I'm not mistaken. And you need 3 years of working experience.

Sorry, I didn't bother reading all the 55 pages of this thread so please excuse me if I am repeating what someone else has already said.

I think MBA is one of those degrees where the uni you are graduating from plays a huge part. Graduate from some local u/college or some 2nd tier foreign uni would be pointless lor. Waste of money only.

It's A LOT of money but I would of recommend the unis offering MBAs as listed in the Financial Times.  All the other 'crappy'colleges, forget it. No point. Your salary won't be much higher pun.
*
Not many people are lucky like you. Why some people still choose to do their MBA in Malaysia because not many people can afford to pay the tuition fees and living cost in oversea. As you know JPA, PTPTN and MARA doesn’t really give out scholarship and loan for postgraduate studies (except for special case). Even for local IPTS also cannot get scholarship/loan from them.

For my case, the university in UK only can offer me 30% scholarship. The balance I need to use my own money. The amount is still big for average people with big commitment.

Besides that, not all people want to take MBA because want to get a better salary. I believe most of people who take MBA locally are just sake of knowledge to refine their career path. Most of them are into technical line and know nothing about business, finance and management. So, what’s wrong to take cheap MBA? I believe some of them want to take MBA because want to change the career path.

And hey, not all the students are makan gaji like you. This group of people doesn’t care about the “salary” pun.
If you are lucky enough to enter one of the top business schools, then I would like to congrats to you.

It's your choice on which investment you choose to make. I just think one should do some proper research before investing 1-2 years of your time plus whatever the tuition fee is. If you do your research, you'll find out that MBA is one of the most inflated degrees in the world. As I said, you want to buy a fake LV bag for RM2000, I'm not going to stop you. It's your RM2000. Not mine.

I would like to add that you are mistaken to think the tuition fee is all that matters for MBAs. Loans are available-how do you think other foreigners pay for it? Most do not have Daddy's money and there are many students from 3rd world countries (where the currency is weak, just like ours). Most good schools are affliated with a bank and you can apply for a loan there. Banks give this loan because the graduates are pretty much ensured of a salary of +-$100 000 per year and the whole loan ($50-100k/ year) can be repaid in about 6 years (probably longer but apparently, on average, most MBA graduates repay it in 6 years). Besides the study itself, MBA is about networking. Go to a good school and you're more likely to get a good network.
*
To get the personal loan from bank is not simple like what you think. I checked before. Most of the bank only can give below RM100k with high interest rate. And need start to pay immediately once receive the money. If you are government staff, then will be a different story because you can borrow big loan with low interest. No guarantor and no collateral. If want bigger loan such as RM200k then only need.

Seems like you can afford to study in Monash University (Australia campus), I believe you got no problem with your financial. You can ask your parents to pay for your studies. No need to worry about how to get the loan. How to pay back the loan. Etc

not salary? refine career path with prospects of higher salary thats the ultimate goal.
for knowledge just go library and grab a book and read, why need a paper?

ther are also plenty of good online MBA programs. no discipline to study that way I guess.
