UK 'moving towards' military intervention against IS in Libya

user posted image

QUOTE
A government source told the Daily Telegraph on Friday that the UK is “moving in the direction” of launching military action in war torn Libya, where IS has emerged out of a civil war that has paralysed the country since a revolution in 2011 overthrew long-time leader Muammar Gaddafi.

Syrian Army Quietly Approaches the Daraa-Jordan Border-Crossing

user posted image

For the last two months, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division (specifically, the 15th Brigade and the 82nd Battalion) and the National Defense Forces (NDF) have quietly been advancing inside the provincial capital of the Dara’a Governorate, capturing several building blocks every week from the Free Syrian Army’s “Southern Front Brigades” and Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group).

With this structured advance taking place inside the provincial capital of the Dara’a Governorate, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division and the National Defense Forces of Dara’a City are currently en route to the Dara’a-Jordan border-crossing that has been under the control of opposition since 2013.

Surprisingly underreported by both sides, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Division is now within a few hundred meters of the Jordanian border-crossing in southwest Dara’a; if captured, the Syrian Armed Forces will have effectively cutoff the Islamist rebels main supply route from the Jordanian cities of ‘Irbid and Mafraq.

Earlier this week, the Islamist rebels from the Free Syrian Army attempted to capture the imperative town of Judaydah in northwestern Dara’a; however, this attempt to alleviate the pressure on Dara’a City failed, as the attack was repelled after the Southern Front Brigades sustained heavy casualties and the destruction of their heavy armory.

It is only a matter of time before the Syrian Armed Forces capture the Dara’a-Jordan border-crossing; furthermore, this raises the question about their future presence inside the provincial capital’s southern sector.

RUSSIA TO SUPPORT KURDS WITH MONEY AND EQUIPMENT

user posted image

It’s widely known that Turkey supports a diverse range of the extremist movements in Russia and in Central Asia. Especially roughly, that strategy was used during both Chechen wars when servicemen of the Turkish special services coordinated and supported the terrorists in the Russian North Caucasus.

After the Su-24 incident in Syria, Turkey intensified contacts with extremists in Russia and its neighbouring states.

SouthFront: Analysis & Intelligence has information that, in turn, Russia has started to support the Kurdish national movement in Turkey.

The situation in Turkey remains critical. Political and national dissidents amid the deep economical crisis tear the country apart. Moreover, Ankara’s actions against the Kurds which are 30% of the Turkish population have already escalated the situation to an open military conflict inside the country.

If the tendency remains, the partition of Turkey could become possible in the nearest future. The Russian support of the Kurdish movements in Turkey and the Kurdish enclaves in Syria and Iraq which border with Turkey are a strong argument for this possibility.

This company is bringing military-style drone tech to the rest of us

user posted image

QUOTE
UAVIA has partnered with Ubuntu for the technology behind its product. Its drones run the Ubuntu Core operating system, designed for embedded devices.

The company started up two and half years ago with €16,000 ($17,500) of its own money, and has bolstered that with interest-free innovation loans backed by the French government. It is now raising a €500,000 private investment round which it hopes to close in the first quarter of 2016.

“SKAT” ON THE WAY: RUSSIA’S ARMED FORCES TO RECIEVE STRIKE DRONES IN 2016

user posted image

QUOTE
In January, 2015, Deputy Minister of Defense Yury Borisov announced that in Russia a heavy drone capable of conducting reconnaissance and destroying targets had been created. The tactical and technical characteristics of the device are to be kept secret. According to the mass media, the Sukhoi Developmental Design Office (Moscow), Sokol Developmental Design Office (Kazan), and CJSC Tranzas Aviatsiya (St. Petersburg) are working on the heavy drone project.

In early October, 2011, in a competition run by the Ministry of Defense to create drones up to 1 ton in weight, the Ambler design won, and in the one up to 5 tons, the Altius-M design won. Offensive operations drones up to 20 tons are being developed by the Sukhoi Developmental Design Office, on the basis of the Skat project with which Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG has been engaged since 2005. The new project received the name Okhotnik [Hunter].

According to unconfirmed data, the Okhotnik will at the same time be a sixth generation fighter. Its first flight is expected in 2018, and its introduction into operations in 2020. Like the Skat, the new drone will have the shape of a flying wing (a so-called “flying saucer”).

China Flight Tests Multi-Warhead Missile

user posted image

QUOTE
The test of the new DF-41 intercontinental ballistic missile, or ICBM, took place Dec. 4.

The latest flight test demonstrated the use of two multiple independently-targetable reentry vehicles. The missile launch and dummy warheads were tracked by satellites to an impact range in western China.

It was the second flight test this year of the new missile and the fifth since 2012. U.S. intelligence assessments suggest that the missile will be capable of carrying between three and 10 warheads. The two most recent missile flight tests took place Aug. 6, also with two dummy warheads, and on Dec. 13, 2014.

Cmdr. Bill Urban, a Pentagon spokesman, declined to comment on the latest test. “We do not comment on specific PRC weapons tests, but we do monitor Chinese military modernization carefully,” Urban said.

The DF-41 is a road-mobile ICBM with a range of up to 7,456 miles. It is viewed by the Pentagon as China’s most significant new missile that has been in development since the early 2000s.

ISIS Weapons Came From China, Russia, US, EU

QUOTE
This new report indicates that it sources its weaponry and ammunition from more than 25 different countries, including Iraqi military stocks that were supplied to the Iraqi army by the United States.

Also artillery systems made by Russia, China, Iran and the U.S. Expert observers state ISIS possesses guided anti-tank missiles and surface to air missiles.

"We're hitting a moment where Russian Federation in particular is working to undermine a lot of the progress we've made so far by super empowering President al-Assad and by allowing him to pummel the Syrian opposition to a point where there will not be any viable ground force that can push against ISIS".

KUALA LUMPUR: A number of Malaysian children are believed to be undergoing training at a militant camp in Syria, run by the Islamic State (IS) terror group.

They form part of a group of children from other Southeast Asian countries, including Indonesia.

"The millitants realised that they need a new generation to continue their legacy.

Interpol Issues Arrest Warrant for Russian IS Killer 'Jihadi Vlad'

user posted image

QUOTE
Interpol has issued an international arrest warrant for the Russian Islamic State militant shown beheading his countryman in a video released by the terror group early in December, Russian media reported Friday. A high-priority “Red Notice,” calling for his location and detention “with a view to extradition or similar lawful action,” has been published on the organization's official website.

The killer — who has been identified as Anatoly “Tolik” Zemlyanka, a native of the west Siberian city of Noyabrsk, and dubbed “Jihadi Vlad” or “Jihadi Tolik” by some news outlets — has now been charged in absentia with “involvement with an illegal armed group” at the request of Russian authorities, the Interfax news agency wrote quoting an unidentified source.

Footage showing the execution by Zemlyanka of the Chechen Mogamed Khasiyev, whom the Islamic State identified as a Russian spy, made headlines on Dec. 2, with Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov confirming that the victim came from the Caucasian republic amid reports that his involvement with secret services was “doubtful.”

TUSCOR LLOYDS TRANSPORTS REFUELING TANKER

user posted image

UK freight forwarder and shipping agent Tuscor Lloyds has delivered an out-of-gauge tactical refueling tanker from Stafford in the north of England to Penang, Malaysia.

The military vehicle was shipped to the Malaysian Armed Forces and required a special license to be carried. The cargo weighed a total of 23 tons and to transport it the project team at Tuscor Lloyds had to split the tank and truck into separate sections.

Each part of the cargo was then loaded onto individual 40-foot flat rack containers, which were driven, escorted by members of the British Armed Forces, to the port of Felixstowe.

Once at the port, the cargo was loaded aboard a ship using a heavy-lift crane, ready for the 38-day trip to the port of Pennag.

The transportation and loading process was fully managed and supervised by Tuscor Lloyd’s project team, led by Martyn Blackburn. The tactical refueling tanker will be used in military operations to supply fuel in battlefield scenarios.

“Logistics for the military sector can be difficult, but thanks to the experienced project cargo handlers at Tuscor Lloyds and the military/port side personnel assisting throughout, the tactical refueling tanker arrived in Malaysia within the scheduled time and budget for the shipment,” a spokesperson for Tuscor Lloyds said.

This Is Northrop Grumman's Idea Of A Sixth-Generation Fighter, But Is It Feasible?

user posted image

QUOTE
Even as the Pentagon is struggling to figure out a way to afford and field its fifth-generation fighter of choice, the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, the Navy and the U.S. Air Force—along with industry—are looking at what comes next. This sixth-generation fighter initiative is loosely known as the “F-X program” for the USAF and the “FA-XX” for the Navy.

The F-X program looks to to finally replace the F-15 Eagle, as well as the F-22 Raptor, and the FA-XX program aims to replace the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. This new aircraft will be as much about reusable weaponry (lasers) as it is about expendable weaponry. Development of solid-state airborne laser capability is already well underway in the white world, and has most likely experienced other application gains in the black world.
QUOTE
For a sixth-generation fighter like the ones depicted by Northrop Grumman, top-end speed and maneuverability may be sacrificed to some degree—at least, if the crank-kite flying wing design is used—in order achieve many other enhanced capabilities at an affordable cost. For instance, packing a laser system and long-range into a 9G tailless, supersonic fighter design may not only be prohibitively expensive, but also wasteful. By giving up maneuverability and high top-speed performance for enhanced stealth and greater fuel and weapons capacity, while relying on lasers instead of maneuverability for self defense, little is lost while much is gained.

Israeli Military to Install Missile Interceptors on Warships Protecting

user posted image

QUOTE
The Israel Defense Forces is planning to install Iron Dome missile defense batteries on board its advanced warships to protect the country's gas drilling platforms.

The installation of the interceptors is an interim solution that would remain in place until new ships meant to protect the rigs arrive from Germany in 2019. The ships were acquired in a deal estimated at 430 million euros.

According to a senior officer, the navy's Sa'ar 5 ships are currently equipped with Barak 1 missiles. The new ships, dubbed Sa'ar 6, will be equipped with the more advanced Barak 8 interceptors. In the meantime, the defense establishment wants to arm the ships with interceptors like those of the Iron Dome that could better protect Israel's gas drilling platforms from potential missile barrages.

Russian destroyer fires warning shots at Turkish fishing boat on collision course in Aegean

user posted image

QUOTE
Russian destroyer had to open warning fire as a Turkish fishing vessel sailed on a collision course towards them and didn’t respond to calls from the warship, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
The incident happened in the northern part of the Aegean Sea some 12 nautical miles from the Greek island of Lemnos, the ministry said.

The crew of the Kashin-class guided missile destroyer Smetlivy spotted the Turkish fishing trawler some 1,000 meters from the Russian warship early on Sunday morning, the ministry said. The ship was sailing towards the destroyer and ignored calls for radio contact and other attempts to communicate.

Turkey decries sighting of Russian ‘soldier with manpad’ on ship passing Istanbul
When the Turkish vessel approached to about 600 meters, the Smetlivy opened small arms fire at a spot in front of the trawler, taking care to avoid any risk of hitting the Turkish ship itself, the report said.

The ministry said the Turkish fishing ship changed course after that and kept about 540 meters from the Smetlivy, but didn’t contact the Russian warship.

This has been anticipated. Erdogan will face a formidable Kurdish force. One that's been trained and armed by the American and now receive extra boost by the Russian. Anyone wonder why Turkey sent their troops to northern Iraq and mati mati doesn't want to pull back despite being warned by the Iraqi? The Syrian saga has provided the Kurd the best ever chance to fight for their own land since WWII. They are being armed and trained in an unprecedented scale by the major global players.

You have a good point on this volatile situation because Putin's astro forces doesn't seem to be much bombing the kurds that opposes Assad. Instead, concentrating more on the "Moderate terrorists FSA, Al Nusra & their affiliates". It seems, Putin's real objective is to secure the borders of Turkey & Jordan so that ISIS will be cut off from their logistical support. Finally, the kurds with the help of Putin will end the scurge of ISIS. Of course, Turkey will never let this scenario pan out.

The Best is Yet to Come: Russian Tanks to Become ‘Invisible’, Grenade-Proof

user posted image

The Mantle, developed by the Institute of Steel, which is part of the Tractor Factories Concern, consists of a screen with dynamic protection elements, which is placed 50 millimeters to 1,500 millimeters ahead of the protected object, Novosti VPK defense website reported.

When hit by an antitank grenade the screen’s low-density surface prevents it from blowing up with its discreet protective elements destroying the grenade fuse’s electrical circuit.

Simultaneously, the Mantle partially destroys the grenade’s cumulative element. As a result, when hitting the tank’s main armor, the grenade either fails to explode or its armor-piercing ability is significantly undermined.

As to the Mantle’s stealth capability, it makes tanks and infantry fighting vehicles six times less visible to enemy radar and three times less detectible in the infrared spectrum.

The Mantle is installed and uninstalled in a matter of just a few minutes and requires no additional training.

IMO Putin wants to court the Kurds away from the US and use them to annoy Turkey too, as Kurdistan is what Turkey absolutely does not want. In the long term a Russia-friendly Kurdistan can together with Syria block NATO's access to the Mid East region, maybe even topple Turkey's government.

That will leave NATO with even less influence in the Mid East if they allow it to happen, or suck them into a proxy war against Kurdistan and Syria. All according to plan wink.gif
*
Even by toppling Endrogan will not change the new Turkish government of any idea of "Kurdistan" plus the Iranian & iraqis Government will go against it. However, the israelis might consider "Kurdistan" a good idea because it will create a huge wedge between the Arabs,Turks & Iranians.

Christian female fighters take on IS in Syria

user posted image

QUOTE
The fierce-looking 36-year-old in fatigues from the Syriac Christian minority in the northeast believes she is making the future safe for her children.

"I miss Limar and Gabriella and worry that they must be hungry, thirsty and cold. But I try to tell them I'm fighting to protect their future," she told AFP.

Babylonia belongs to a small, recently created battalion of Syriac Christian women in Hasakeh province who are fighting IS.

They are following in the footsteps of Syria's other main female force battling the militants - the women of the YPJ, the female counterpart to the Kurdish People's Protection Units or YPG.

So far the new force is small, with around 50 graduates so far from its training camp in the town of al-Qahtaniyeh, also known as Kabre Hyore in Syriac, and Tirbespi in Kurdish.

But the "Female Protection Forces of the Land Between the Two Rivers" - the area between the Tigris and Euphrates waterways historically inhabited by Syriacs -- is teeming with women eager to prove their worth against IS.
