Hi guys,

I will be going to Tokyo next week Saturday.

Since I will be only having 1 Sunday at Tokyo, where should I go to maximize the weekend?

The plan was to go Ginza and then Akihabara as they will be closing the main road Chuo Dori so that I can literally walk anywhere I wanted to.

Or should I go to Harajuku to look at those cosplayers?
*
I prefer Akihabara

are you going in winter? during winter, the pond turns into ice...and you want to cram so many places in Day 7? From Biei to Otaru, driving also need 3hours++ d...you go google map and study the routes first. To me, it's too cram d  hmm.gif
haha...for you ok la bcos you not planning so many places like yaniee in one day...besides, you're not going in winter mah
*
Driving on Winter time you have to double the travel time.
Imagine you only can drive around 40km/h on snow + very slippery road...travel that 300km away journey need take how long to reach.......

Seriously Yaniee your plan are too tight....all your destination are far away from each other......plus winter 4pm already dark like 8pm + driving on snow....hell level dangerous..

1 accident on road, you can say bye bye to your holiday plan. All your day will spent in police station.

If you very unlucky meet a snow blizzard. This is an example

very far from where?
to be exact... it is actually in between furano and biei... an alternative route

Biei -> Furano = 35km
Biei -> Blue Pond -> Furano = 50.9km
If winter then can consider far already.
Because winter driving I mostly drive around 40 - 50 km/h only.
Biei > Furano 35km will took almost 40 minute already. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I have read few blogs, where they went to Tokyo this year and mention Suica card is only for JR Train. I thought it can be used to all trains which accepting PASMO? Even my colleague said the same. She just back from Tokyo 2 weeks ago. Can somebody verify this?

i went in end of jan, winter. yoyogi park, even its botak but very nice la..a lot people doing their leisure activities there =)
Nope, in Tokyo SUICA can be used as where PASMO is accepted. Both are widely accepted, for subway and JR. But except some shinkanshen train as i believe they are slowly expanding the route.
*
Tell those blog go ''jiak sai''
Suica or Pasmo can used on all train and subway and buses. JR or private line around Japan.
Except Shinkanshen / Limited Express Train / Taxi only.

Hi everyone. We're planning to go to Hokkaido next month. 4 adults and 3 children. I was thinking of renting a MPV but seems the rental is quite expensive.

Which local car rental provider is the cheapest or is it better to take train/public transportation? I've just started to do some research but would appreciate if anyone has any suggestion for a group as big as ours. First time bringing parents for international travel happy.gif

Thank you.
*
7 seater car sure will more expensive than sedan. Those car rental shop all have standard price. If cheaper also wont more than 1500yen different. My fav car rental are Nippon Rent A Car company.

hi all - will be transiting in Narita airport for like 7 hours and my wife gave me a mission... she wanted something call Anello bag pack... i am clueless about fashion and can someone advice where can i get such backpack from Narita? I know there is shuttle service to Aeon Mall Narita, does anyone know do they sell Anello bag there?
*
Good news for you.
I saw this bag at Shinjuku Lumine Est Department Store. If you used Google Map, It just beside Shinjuku Station.

7 Hour transit can be done.

1st you just need buy NEX Narita Express Train 2 Way Ticket to Shinjuku Station.
https://www.jreast.co.jp/e/pass/nex_round.html

Bag price around 5000 - 7000 Yen

With the percentage stated, what have I missed out for each of the city?? Do you mind to share abit more.
*
I been Japan more than 500 times. Example Osaka City. I know this City sure more than anyone else. If you want cover 100% Osaka City like me, It need took you 3 months. If you want cover 45% of Osaka like most of Forumers here, It need takes you 7 days minimum just at Osaka City.

9 Days want cover 4 city means will be very packed. No point I give you more info, because you won't enough time cover it also. September are Japan hottest season summore and Typoon season. Typoon comes , everything will be closed, train service will be shut down.

Get ready to face raining all days long.

I won't say to cover 100%, just that if Osaka what the most worth place to visit that all. Yea I know if want cover onc city definitely need to take longer. Just that this trip will be good if can covered the iconic places that all(again not all). There will be a second visit to Japan for sure. Even the forumer here sure have visited more than once.
*
QUOTE(hjh87 @ Jun 29 2016, 08:51 AM)
Erm, will not consider as backpacking but will be more like flexible traveling. If time permit then will visit more places, if not then will need to improvised abit.

Most forumer here been Japan more than once but most of them are going part by part. 7 - 9 days just at Osaka + Kyoto + Nara + Kobe. Another trip will be 7 days at Tokyo it self.

Not sure is this appropriate to ask about airline (to JP) on here or not, but I gonna ask it anyway.

For anyone that ever flew from SIN to either NRT or HND, between JAL, ANA and SIA (any other full-service airline is fine too), which airline is better in terms of airline meals and seat comfortability (economy seats BTW  biggrin.gif )?

Consider to make a Plan B (8-11 days Kanto area trip on March/May 2017) if my current company (worked in SG for about 3 months so far) doesn't approve my leave for my JP trip in October....
*
Airline Route , Meal , Seat Comfort Question Ok. As long not Promo , Ticket pricing.
Fly ANA. The Best. 2nd Choice SIA, 3rd Choice JAL.

ANA Service are always top of top and meal they serve are delicious.

But if you can do 1 transit at Seoul. Then Fly Asiana. The Best Airline Meal I ever had.

QUOTE(hjh87 @ Jun 29 2016, 09:52 AM)
That the case, I'll replan my trip and focus more to one place. As u mentioned previously September will be hot and it typhoon season it's advisable to travel Tokyo (middle side) first or Osaka (downward side) for first timer?
*
If you haven't buy air ticket yet.
I Suggest you 9 Days just Focus at Osaka , Kyoto , Nara , Kobe.
You won't regret it. 100% trust me.

Hi All, wanna ask Tokyo Metropolitan District Pass cover for all JR train in tokyo for unlimited time daily?

May I ask which is better for travel in tokyo between this two pass ( Tokyo Metropolitan District Pass or tokyo metro pass) ?
*
It only cover JR train. It no cover Subway.
Tokyo are cover by Subway 70% JR just 30%

Honestly you no need any pass in Tokyo. Just buy Pasmo or Suica enough already.

Those pass are expensive unless one day you ride train or subway more than 10 times above only worth.

My family (parents + sibling) will be heading to Tokyo this 6th - 10th.
Didn't give too much planning since they wanted a casual walk, eat and shop trip.
Hotel is near Shinjuku Station and will be flying there with ANA.
With that in mind, my rough itinerary is as below. Kind feedback is appreciated.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

As you can see, my parents first time there and they want to take it easy. Simple shopping and makan (RIP wallet sweat.gif )
Feel free to advise anything, especially what to do at night. (But I suspect my parents wanna go back hotel and rest  laugh.gif )

RegentCid, got a few things need to confirm on NEX.
1) For NEX I know train ticket reservation is a must. I'm buying that 4k JPY ticket combo, am I required to reserve my return ticket when I buy at Narita? Or I can go JR counter to reserve when I going back? (I want to reserve at Tokyo station to NRT)
2) When NEX train go to Tokyo, need to change train carriage? I'm going to Shinjuku but I see NEX train depart to two different terminal location from Tokyo station.

Thanks for clarification.
*
6th July (Wed)
Lepak until 2400.
Seriously? Your parent can stand it? plus after long haul flight. I bet your self also no stamina can withstand until 2400.

NEX Combo with Suica only can get at Narita Airport JR Ticket Office. When you buy this combo, ticket officer will automatic reserve the seat already. When Return, You just go Tokyo Station JR Ticket Office reserve the seat again. From Narita Airport can direct go Shinjuku Station by NEX, no need change train at Tokyo Station.

questions:
1. Is 2nd Jan in japan considered "black friday" whereby there will be massive sales ? not referring to fukubukuro...
2. How much are the discounts / sales for electronics / clothes etc, is it huge or...?

Thanks...
*
Japan don't have Black Friday. Only America have.
But most American company in Japan such as Amazon will do the ''Black Friday'' sales. Discount up to 50%

any public bus companies which is recommended for traveling from

Kyoto -> Takayama -> Shirakawago -> Osaka ?

current plan is to depart from Kyoto in the morning, take a bus to Takayama, stay overnight in Takayama, then on second day morning, will depart for Shirakawago for a day trip, then when about evening time, take the bus to Osaka, so 2 day 1 night is it enough for Takayama and Shirakawago?
