Hi, I have been following this thread for almost over a year and glad to say that it is very informative and it does help a lot in planning a trip to Japan.

One question: We'll be arriving at Kansai around 19:40 and we plan to board the 20:46 Haruka Express to Kyoto.  I know it depends on a lot of factors but it there enough time for us to board the train? We need to go through the immigration, collect our baggage, buy the Haruka & ICOCA tickets before boarding.

Please share your experience in Kansai Airport.

Thanks
*
Can be done. If you hardworking enough study the map of Kansai Airport.

Tips of the Months:
Ramadan Special
As Promise. This Tips of the months will be powerful one. Spot Mt Fuji like a Pro

For those traveler between Tokyo to Kyoto // Osaka. Willing to sacrifice some time and money for taxi.

First get down at Shin Fuji Station (新富士駅). Note: Nozomi & Hikari, Doesn't STOP at this Station. You have to take slowest Kodama to reach Shin Fuji Station. Take a taxi to Fujikawa Riverbed Sport Square.

Then walk to Orange dot.

My Favorite angle!! Perfecto!!!
Mt Fuji , Shinkansen , Fuji River , Clear Sky

After Done, You have to walk to Fujikawa Station. Because this only place you can get out from here.
Either take normal train to Shizuoka Station or take Taxi back to Shin Fuji Station.

I have a question about connecting flights between narita-haneda-KIX. If it's out of topic, please do let me know.

I was checking the flights from ANA from KL to KIX and i noticed that there's no direct flight and it required me to fly from KL to Narita, then arrange a transport myself to Haneda and then from Haneda to fly to KIX. The time given between landing in Narita to departure from Haneda is about 4.5 hours. Have anyone tried this? Do you think it's enough time to travel between the airport and go through all the security check and queues?

I checked the transport between Narita and Haneda and seems like the airport limo is the fastest with about 85 mins to 100 mins. There's a different option from ANA which gives me an extra 20 minutes to almost 5 hours window time. Will it be sufficient? Thanks. Sorry if it's a bit out of topic.

My original plan was to have AA fly me to KIX and then fly back from Narita. But the price difference between AA and ANA is only 200... and that's even during promo period.. rclxub.gif
*
Narita to Haneda flight transfer minimum Gap must have 3 hour.
As long was 3 hour above, You are safe.
Limo bus are most direct way. You want even faster are high speed airport train but this required you to do few transit at station and homework have to be done. Screw at Transit and you will screw up everything.

Advise still Limo Bus.

going to osaka next month. As I have kids, planning to go universal studio and fish aquarium. Thinking of getting the Osaka Amazing Pass 2016.

https://www.osaka-info.jp/osp/en/index.html

What you guys think? Worth it?

Do you think I should go Kyoto too? As I read seems like Kyoto only have temples to visit which is not suitable for me as my kids do not like "old people place".....
*
If you plan Visit Universal Studio + Aquarium. I got something for you.
http://www.kaiyukan.com/language/eng/captain.html
After Universal Studio then walk to Hotel Universal Port buy this combo ticket.

About Kyoto. Kyoto was Japan ancient capital. History placed. Traditional stuff. If you don't like ancient stuff then Kyoto won't suit you.

i read some blog that say not to plan for USJ and Kaiyukan on the same day because it will be too rush. When I am on holiday I do not like to rush. Cause holiday is for relaxing...not for chasing after time.
*
Have you been Universal Studio Singapore?
Universal Studio Japan as big as Singapore one.

Totally one full day activities. Won't be time going Kaiyukan.

Hi guys,I'm traveling from Kansai Airport (KIX) to Komatsu on the 26th June 2016. Hyperdia and JR-West website are giving me different routes
1) KIX->Kyoto->Komatsu (from JR-West)
2) KIX->Shin-Osaka->Komatsu (from Hyperdia)
both of the links doesn't show routes offered by the other link, which is the correct one ya?
don't want to get lost for too long as I only planned 2 hours buffer time after arriving at KIX (8:25am) laugh.gif
*
Both way also can.
From KIX to Shin-Osaka Station Or Kyoto Station are Using JR ''Haruka'' Limited Express.

Either you get down from Shin-Osaka Station or Kyoto Station you still have to Change to JR '' Thunderbird'' Limited Express to Komatsu Station.

JR ''Haruka'' Route:
Kansai International Airport - Shin-Osaka - Kyoto - Maibara

JR ''ThunderBird'' Route:
Osaka - Shin-Osaka - Kyoto - (Katata) - (Omi-Imazu) - (Tsuruga) - (Takefu) - (Sabae) - Fukui - (Awaraonsen) - (Kagaonsen) - (Komatsu) - (Matto) - Kanazawa

So from what I gather that I have to take a bus to Niigata to reach Tokyo, right? Do they sell one way ticket or pass just like JR?
*
NO. Willer Express Bus can Directly from Osaka (Umeda) to Tokyo (Shinjuku)

QUOTE(_ChAoS_ @ Jun 15 2016, 08:36 AM)
Second question is the All Nikko pass, the website says that it covers "Works as a round trip ticket between the station you depart and Shimoimaichi Station.
Works as a train pass for the free section of Tobu Railway (Shimoimaichi - Tobu Nikko / Shinfujiwara Station)
Works as a bus pass between Tobu Nikko Station and Yumoto Onsen / Kotoku Onsen / Kirifuri Kogen Highland (Nikko Kirifuri Ice Arena) Bus Stop, and for the free section of the World Heritage Sightseeing Bus".
But when i checked the bus routes, it showed the World Heritage Sight Seeing bus as greyed out (Together with Akechidaira ropeway), which is the free section of this bus  covered by the pass? because akechidaira ropeway wasn't included. I tried searching for information about the world heritage bus and its route and nothing useful was found.
http://www.tobu.co.jp/foreign/en/access/bus_nikko.html
http://www.tobu.co.jp/foreign/en/pass/all.html

Hello. I love people who do homework.
With this much of homework. I will help you to the End.

Tobu ALL Nikko Pass covered all. (Because I tested it my self already)
It Covert all Heritage Sightseeing Bus , All Temple Entrance fees.
It also covered all Tobu Bus at Nikko area. (From Tobu Nikko Station up to Yumoto Onsen)
It also covered Rope-way 2 way Ticked.

One Thing was you need add money even you got this Pass was the Limited Express Train from Asakusa Station to Tobu Nikko Station.

would it be too ambitious to plan to travel around on bicycle in japan? am planning to rent a bicycle during the trip, and just cycle around wherever i want to go.
*
Can be Done. I saw alot Mat Salleh do this at Japan. but one condition was you have to bring your own bicycle. Must have Travel Insurance Cover you. You also needed a Credit Card with limit over 20k. If accident happen, due to you are not Japan citizen, the bill will be very expensive.

Japan Bicycle renting are limited in sightseeing area only. You cannot ride over the area limitation. Longest Rental Bicycle Ride in Japan are Shimanami Kaido. 60km Journey. From Imabari Station to Onomichi Station.

QUOTE(Balalaika @ Jun 15 2016, 02:38 PM)
that is already a no go...

i've checked a few of the sites for bike rentals, they don't seem to mention "limited to area". this is one of the sites i checked: http://rentabike.jp/index.html#01
*
When you rental, on rental agreement will stated you cannot Ride over Tokyo City limitation.
Because they scare you ride from Tokyo all the way to Kyoto. Then they have to go over to Kyoto to pick up the bicycle back.

Some rental shop let you over Tokyo City to other city but you must return it back at spot you rent. Means you cannot ride too far away from Tokyo too. If you take 3 day to Kyoto means you need another 3 day back to Tokyo

You want freedom, You have to bring your own bike like those mat salleh do. Ride From Tokyo all the way to Fukuoka. Then fly back to own country from Fukuoka Airport. One direction way.

the World Heritage Bus is covered under the ALL NIKKO PASS, but NOT the ropeway and shrine entrances. The shrine and temples fees were last time included in the pass, but after some discussions with the temples, they were cancelled.

2. since most of us will arrive late at night, is it better to go to oedo onsen monogatari to rest and enjoy onsen thn explore odaiba at the morning before proceed to airbnb
