Whenever I use any Samsung I always tone down brightness as low as possible n choose basic color display instead of other higher end options

I think you will be more than happy n simply amazed at Mate 8 battery life. Even though its battery capacity is only 23-33% additional over say Nexus 6P, LG V10 its usage life is close to double of these 2 phones. This is based on my usage

Potential buyers - do enjoy your new Mate 8
Is an excellent phone
Is either you will love or hate its UI
Do google a bit how to use the UI if you are unfamiliar with it
If you don't have the patience just replace with 3rd party launcher. You might need to set permissions for some to show eg Google Now launcher
Spent time exploring the notifications settings n app permission settings too

My set is China set n mixed comments about its firmware being better or worser than international firmware
Anyway I could easily uninstall 9/10 of those useless app ( some games, news app n various China social app)
However being China set has its advantages - firmware update release is often - had 2 updates in 3 weeks using it
My experience with Msian HW phones is bad on firmware updates - while China n Euro sets has 5-6 firmware updates one is lucky to even get one for Msian model!!

I had no issues w camera
I find it as good as my current N6P n ex Note5 but obviously loses out to the superior LG V10. The V10 I feel has best camera even better than ip6s+ amongst all phones I had used to date
My demands on camera not high n I am just a simple point n shoot guy

The 64gb has 4gb ram - very good if one multitask a lot

I would recommend one change to a new nano sim . This phone the simcard need to be slot inside a sim tray. Microsim cards are very slighty thicker and can possibly jam up the sim tray making it difficult to take it out later. It is alright if the nano sim can be inserted flat in and you can see the simcard slot eg in LG G4, V10 phones

HW actually make very good quality phones. I was very impressed with my first Mate 6.1 n had since than purchase X1, Mate 7, P8max n now Mate8
HW network n 3g/LTE are very stable n strong as they are world largest manufacturer of telco infrastructure and equipment
They do not end up as world 3rd largest mobile manufacturer after Apple n Samsung if they make poor quality stuff.
Is a pity many users view HW branding poorly n think they are one of the many cheap China makes

HW based on my experience has the best strongest network/lte lockup amongst all other manufacturers. This is their strength being world largest manufacturer of equipment for most telco in the world

I didn't bother to test my 4gb unit . However I read S7 is in range 120k !!! Reviews had shown Mate 8 should hit 100+k

You can choose only one sim for data ( 3g n above). This is so for all dual sim phones . So I am not sure whether you can receive whatsapp on sim 1 if you had chosen sim2 for data

Only whatsapp - random happenings. Not critical issue at all for me
No notification issues on other app - tweeter, facebook, mail, newsfeed, SMS etc
One can set how notifications be at settings/ notification panel/notification center
It seems the China sets has such whatsapp notification issue?

If it is a lower number try to check for update at settings/updater

My China set comes with default 9V/2A fast charger ...is indeed strange if M'sian units doesn't

Absolutely fine with the camera...all those reported issues were with earlier development builds
If you are unhappy with the camera than is probably hardware related
Just check youtube many reviewers are happy with it
It is not in the class of LG V10, G4 but comparable to Note5, Nexus 6p
Finally photo shot quality again heavily depends on one demands on it - camera enthusiasts /geeks would had a higher demand. I am just a simple point and shoot photographer and to date all my current phones Nexus 6P, V10, Lumia 950xl and iphone 6s+ - all photo shots I am happy with it

And if you can, try to update firmware - latest is b160 for international models. Any lower number means your set is on old firmware. I read on XDA most users get b152 out of box

That is always the biggest problem with M'sian models of all HW phones I had used. Firmware is either outdated and updates are very slow

You can download the latest firmware from XDA
Flashing new firmware is easy. Just download the firmware file
Extract it till you see a dload folder. If you don't see it, just copy the extracted files into a folder named dload
Copy this dload folder onto ext SDcard
Boot the phone into flashing mode : switch off. Than press both vol up/vol down and power button simultaneously. Once you see the boot up, release the power button only. When you see the firmware being update than letgo the vol buttons
Normally all your data will remains . It would just take 2-3 minutes to complete flash/update the firmware

You can use ANY of the firmware as long as is L29 model. B160 latest version is Euro version
I seriously doubt you can ever see any updated Msian version yet -

Why don't you go n view it yourself to assess. I am perfectly happy with it vs my other Nexus 6P n LG V10
I don't see any significant differences . The display s very good and striking

Settings/display/wallpaper/ tap on lockscren n tap more at bottom if you wish to use your own wallpaper - it will prompt you to select gallery app
