Guys, I been training for quite a while now. I managed to cut down my weight from 100 to 93 in about 2 months+, currently eating a lot of protein source like chicken breast and brocolli etc.. My questions is, why is it so hard for me to achieve even a single muscle up, am I hitting a wall or something? I can do pullups and chin up easily though, however when it comes to muscle up's, I can't seem to lift myself up. Is there a special technique to do this? The bunch of videos on you tube does not help much. Thanks.

Sincerely,
Daniel.

why you want to measure yourself by using muscle up? For me, I cant do muscle up as well for full BW.

Being able to do muscle up doesn't depends on strength only. Technique is what more important.

If you want to learn muscle up, keep doing it. Pull up is just 1 portion of muscle up. You don't expect being able to do it after watching certain video without spending enough time to practice.

If you can do pull ups with out any problems then it sounds like a technique problem

Few points to consider for the muscle ups...

1) Are you training with a false grip?

2) Are you pulling towards the chest instead of until above the chin?

3) Are you training horizontal dips?

If no then do that, If yes it's probably that you don't know how to transition from the pull up to the dip. Try this: As the bar reaches your chest, go in close and arch you upper body towards the bar so that your shoulders are above the bar. IT should make it easier to push yourself up now that the weight is transfer towards your arms.

I have been in calisthenic for about a year now. Normal basic workout like pull up, push up, dips but with variations of course.

For me i have no intention to do muscle up yet but of course it is one of my goal. For now i started doing straight bar dips in which i believe is one of the progression step to muscle up. Just my humble opinion.

I have a friend doing calisthenic for about 6 months, and able to do muscle up and those "flag" things. I think you progress is slow. Are you doing any weight lifting?

You need to realize that not everyone is the same. We are not all the same age, we are not the same height & weight, and we certainly don't start of with the same amount of strength. Some people may seem slower than others while some are faster with it when it comes to strength training, so don't worry about it, so just keep training hard and you will get it.

muscle ups can be done once u can do about 10ish pullups. its all about technique and core strength

admittedly, i cant do muscle ups, but i have been trying to learn how to, not a serious goal so not making much progress on it

its all about the transition between the pullup to the dip, where at one point your elbows would be taking a lot of your BW, so that transition period has to be fast. pull up with enough power for you to actually go above the bar, and angle the bar to hit somewhere below your chest/sternum. quickly shift into the dip position, and pray your arms can take your weight to dip on the bar.

one method ive been using is to use a bar that is about the same height as you, or slightly higher, JUMP up into the transition position and dip, like a semi muscle up. this is to learn the transition phase and make your body remember how to do it. once you can do maybe 5 or so reps smoothly then you train pulling up with a lil kip and angle your feet slight in front of the bar.

I do about 300 push up per day when on training. Continuously I can do about 30 at one time.. I still can't do muscle up.. haha

Form>Quantity.

Think pressing the bar down.

Push ups don't work your full body weight. If you want to train for a muscle up and if you have problem pressing yourself up; Go do horizontal dips. (I've said it in my previous post somewhere above)

for muscle up i think should train dips + pullups.
these 2 are the fundamentals for muscle ups

technique > strength. try to focus on your shoulder and start with swinging and kipping like in the video. Watching is easy, but understand is difficult. tongue.gif
