Hi guys, I am looking for an used MT Persona, preferably around year 2010- 2011 that costs around RM20k. Most units I found online have about 90k kms of mileage.

May I know what to check when testing the cars? I did read through the first page of this topic and understand the common issues. How about any other things that I should check?

Thanks a lot. smile.gif

Finally got my Persona, it was a 2008 M-line Auto with around 50k millage. First thing i notice is that the stock head unit can't connect AUX/ USB/ Bluetooth, making me unable to play my own music at all. Don't want to use CD since I cant pick my desired song.

Any suggestion?

EDIT: Also the engine fan will keep running after the car is shut down, I only saw the same thing on Exora CFE before. Is it normal for NA Persona to do the same?

U mean 2008 model or car purchased on year 2008?

What happen when you slot in your USB? stock HU does not come with bluetooth, and AUX only can select when you insert the AUX cable.
*
2008 pre facelift model. i searched for video online and it seems like the only way is to plug in an aux cable by removing the whole head unit.

My car recently got hit by someone and the door was dented and the paint came off.

Anyone knows about how much it would cost to patch the spot (is it even possible since the black paint is totally gone and the metal is almost exposed).

Last time I kena hit by a superbike... Kena RM450 smile.gif, but respray entire door + rear section towards the light for colour matching... In the end I probably should have gone for a touch up because the car ended up looking lighter rear half and darker front half on the right side.

Look for a workshop that uses Kansai Alesco paint if possible since that's the original paint supplier. The shop I went to was using HIPIC if I'm not mistaken.

Edit: try to get the spray shop to compound + polish the area also if possible as the paint will most likely look very uneven. The shop most probably has at least one rotary polisher which makes the job really quick.
*
do you have any recommended workshop?

Don't have any in mind... The first one I went to promised so much but delivered very poorly. The second one didn't have the correct shade of colour.. i can only think of any proton centres with body repair at the moment.
*
normally how long would it take to repaint 1 panel/ door? a few days at least?

I don't remember. I believe i got mine back on the same day though. Sent it in the morning.  Also depends on how many cars they have to deal with.

If got budget of cuz u can get the whole door repaint.

End up sending the car for full repaint. But the finishing is a list different compared to the original paint, its a little "bubbly?" but not rough, costed rm200.

Whats the rough estimation for the cost of replacing all 4 suspensions/ struts?

I need to replace mine as they started to make funny noises and the car will sag a lot whenever im going through speed bumps.

Edit: Read through the first page of the topic and realized that my 2008 Persona suffered the IAFM problem too (Tak tak tak) sound, any other place/ way to fix it other than sending it to CoSE?

my persona can go genting (GPO only) even my iafm have tak tak sound. remember campro is high rev engine and best in climbing but dont go to redline often , can damage the engine.
*
Is it a must to fix the IAFM? I can see a lot of Personas running around with the tak tak tak sound (mine included).

I heard that it might affects the FC, is that true? I am wondering whats the consequence other than the annoying sound.

I got quoted prices around rm400-500 from a few workshops.

QUOTE(kausar @ Aug 29 2017, 09:08 AM)
when the car is in motion the taktak sound is gone. if stationery can hear it sometime the sound gone.

Yeap, it will be really loud when the engine is hot and during low RPM idling.

What's the average FC of your Personas? I drive really light footed and for city with speeds ranging from 40-60kmh with some usual traffic lights/ speed bumps the best i can get is 9L/100KM (from the meter reading, which i think is not accurate).

For highway I can get around 6.5L/100KM (again based on the meter reading).

I feel like the car is quite thirsty for city driving even when im really gentle on the paddle and brake as little as I can. I did changed the IAFM module.

Any suggestions on improving FC?

I don't really reset my meter. If I highway alot it drop toll 7.7.
Usually hover around 7.9-8

i usually reset the meter when i change between highway/ city (since I wanted to measure the differences).

I remember reading this topic quite a while back regarding sound proofing of persona, anyone remember which page/ version is it? The wind noise coming from the front quarter of driver side's door is really annoying.

Here's the product that was recommended by someone to seal the door better (only managed to bookmark the product but not the comment itself, sadly sad.gif )

i cant find also.
I did before for my persona driver's door. the rest i didnt do.
later i go back my car check and see and show u?

i think i bought from him and he teach me where to put.
after doing 120km.h above no sound but the door will be more difficult to close.
*
okay thanks biggrin.gif

the noise of my car (2008 persona) is really bad once it hits 80kmh+, even when driving at 110kmh I have to increase the volume of the speakers quite a bit to get clear audio.

Planning to get used persona elegencr full spec with cash as my first car, any owner will to share?
Fuel consumtion- is that really so bad during in traffic jam? Like worst than 8km/L
NVH- are the sound proofing good? Will the engine or wind sound  noisy during travel more than 100?
Maintennace - are this car durable and cheap to maintance??
Performance : are this car comfort to ride??
*
some personal findings of used persona (i just got myself one a few months ago):

FC isn't that good in city, especially if you are doing shorter distance trips. for traffic jam I think it is still alright (not great, but not super bad) and for highway it's not bad (i used around rm25-30 of fuel from KL to Perak, covering around 180km of distance).

the NVH is fine for lower speeds, but it gets worse as you go faster (let's say above 100kmh), im not entirely sure if it is due to the age of the car or that's just how it is. the engine whines in a high pitch during higher speeds and you can hear quite a lot of wind noise/ road noise. the car is quite stable though albeit the noise.

i spent quite a bit to fix some common problems of older personas. the radiator hoses were clogged and i had no idea about it until i drove it on highway and the car overheated quite badly. the head gasket got destroyed and it went through a top overhaul (costed rm1k+).

the suspensions weren't in a good shape too as the front of the car dives a lot when going through bumps and i spent another rm200 to have them serviced. and then the suspension linkages (front passenger side) had to be changed too due to the knocking sound whenever i hit a bump or do a sharp turn, another rm180 gone.

lastly i replaced the IAFM module with a modified intake for rm250 (compared to rm500-600 if you replace it with another brand new IAFM module which will break again in the future). the car was really thirsty and slow to accelerate with the broken IAFM and the worst part is the "tak tak tak" noise it makes.

What noise? If wind noise, consider changing your rubber seals. Above a certain speed it's hard to avoid though even with good window and door seals... from my experience after changing everything to new.
FC - Depends on car condition and your driving style, but yes, it can be pretty bad.
NVH - Persona Elegance seems OK compared to first gen Persona. Campro IAFM is noisy above 2.5K RPM. Cruising speed at 110KM/H is around 3000RPM, and this is annoying when you're driving for long distances.
Maintenance - Cheap and durable.
Performance - Comfortable and pretty nice to drive. Don't get cheap and lousy tyres though, otherwise you'll just end up understeering everywhere.
*
wind noise is most noticeable from the front quarter of the driver side, i can't really tell apart the other noises yet (mixture of engine and tyre noise i guess). the car is quite noisy even when im cruising around 110kmh, i tried hitting 140kmh and it was too noisy for me to comprehend.

to me FC in city is ok, dont aspect to get good FC as persona is class C (cruiser typer). the NVH is good and sound insulatiion is ok compare to saga, but if u buy the highline. the noise at 110km is a bit louder but after 120km above the sound is acceptable.
as for the clogged radiator, i suspect the the older owner dont replace the coolant as per schedule as mine replace every 20k km.
there no modified iafm. they just pull out the valve only.
*
rm30 of fuel for 120km is quite unacceptable no?

yeah true, most people tend to ignore the service schedule once the warranty expires.

by pulling out the valve, is there any negative effect to the engine?

Btw, i noticed that this hose is loosened and tightly connected. Any idea what hose is it? and should i get it fixed?

My Persona had water leaking into the floormat during heavy rain at the right side of rear passenger (behind driver). Strange thing is that this is the first time it happened after my 5 months+ of ownership, anyone knows what to do?

Most people have water leaking in from the front left passenger side only, not from the back. sad.gif

Also what kind of engine oil is suggested for Persona? My car didn't have any records of previous engine oil change so I guess its time for me to take the car for a check at workshop after clocking in around 5000 KMs since I got the car.
