QUOTE(desastar @ Oct 10 2016, 06:19 AM) If I drove, it would be easier.Anyway I still made it up to fraser Hill with my cap ayam single chainring and tourney. twice. and 120km along federal high way and some. I will use the budget for ultegra for buying a kapcai instead. |

QUOTE(Mr. Z @ Oct 11 2016, 02:17 PM) The only real need when buying a bicycle is frame size, others are just wants.Bicycle has been around for over a century, it has came far and long. Bikes had evolve/refined to very diverse needs, race, off-road, city commute, village commute, cargo, recreational, touring and a whole bunch more. Each has their own myriad of sub-categories, eg, race had TT, kirin… You can find your wants and needs only after you start riding… or you let others tell you what you need and pay up… Go get a bike and start pedalling… don't waste your time procrastinating. if money isn't a concern, buy the most expensive bike you can lay your hands on. otherwise buy one which you can give away without breaking a sweat. Choose your dream after 1000km or even better, 3000km which you can do in a year. |

QUOTE(sagethesausage @ Oct 13 2016, 10:46 PM) Is the Xiaomi QiCycle a good electric assist bicycle? 3 options sprung instantly, since you are looking for a solution to mitigate that life threatening hill climbing and save the energy for paddling that stationary cycling machine in the comfortable an air-conditioned gym… https://www.cnet.com/products/xiaomi-mi-qicycle/preview/ I need it to travel to a gym 3.8km away, currently cycling a normal bicycle but the steep hills are killing me, especially after a squatting session. 1, drive there, car or motorbike., 2, stop going to the gym, 3, drop to the lightest gear and spin like a hamster., great cardio workout… ah more solutions came along as I ride 4, jog/walk there. 3.5km is only 30minutes away unless you wish to do that on a stationary thread mill in that comfortable air conditioned gym, 5, swap out your chainring to a much smaller one and spin like a hamster. again, great cardio workout. Qi looks good for going to the wet market. This post has been edited by KenC: Oct 15 2016, 05:44 PM |

QUOTE(fatani @ Oct 14 2016, 08:39 PM) Hi.. great to know someone feels the same. I though I am the odd one…Today I have done 87km on my speed d8. To my surprise, 8 speed is actually sufficient! Steep hill climb is bearable. And I got 56kmh top speed too.. maybe I should leave this bike stock, and hold the upgrades. I have one other Foldie at home which is already upgraded to 20 speed and 53/39 crank..and somehow I felt I like this dahon more. I did my 120km KL- Port Klang loop on my 8 speed 451 BSO (bicycle shaped object). Double chainring is a necessity for hilly terrain such as GAP-Fraser Hill top. Even Chilling-GAP can single chainring. but with double chainring, one can do high cadence cardiovascular workout on any terrain including on the flat. From the 120k ride I confirm what sifu Azam taught me, Lighter gearing + higher cadence can reduce muscle fatigue. The legs can keep on going if they don't burn-up (give us that burning sensation when working too hard for too long.) shift to the next lighter gear and increase the cadence when muscle starts to give that burning sensation. I just realized that it is still possible to climb Fraser Hill with a smaller single chainring… buy hey, too late to undo the double chainring…
I won't keep a bike for every occasion, would prefer to swap chainring and/or cassette… and play with tire pressure… unless different wheel size is required… Maybe I like to play with tools more than others… actually, don't even have to change chainring or cassatte, all it takes is upgrade my legs and lung… This post has been edited by KenC: Oct 17 2016, 07:18 AM |

Just change the bike, can't put a number on the trouble you saved from learning, sourcing, fitting and tuning your bike.
Just pay up and all your troubles are gone. but on the contrary, can't put a number on the satisfaction of solving problem… it's one's choice… This post has been edited by KenC: Oct 18 2016, 05:40 AM |

QUOTE(fatani @ Oct 19 2016, 09:45 AM) thanks sifu. You are going to change the v-brake to suit rims which are not v-brake compatible... oh my..forgot about about the rim..I just recently changed the rim, and it's probably is not v brake compatible.. will changing to a another better disc break set can help reduce the screeching sound? or is this a common problem with all bikes that comes with disc? Good luck This post has been edited by KenC: Oct 20 2016, 04:24 AM |

QUOTE(azamunekurone @ Oct 24 2016, 11:16 AM) Added a 2nd chainring to my outdoor paddling exercise machin.chap ayam 39t chainring to my chap ayam sq. taper crankset and an used Microshift Cantos FD. the 11-34t 8sp freewheel cogset also work properly after a bit of tuning. Kenda Kwick Roller Sport is great value slick tire. BMX stem and BMX handlebar to raise hand position to be comfortable. Went up Fraser last Saturday, enough gears to paddle all the way up without pushing. this configuration is over the top on flatter ground where I usually ride. BUT it gives me the option for high cadence exercise for upgrading my lungs. it's a keeper. This post has been edited by KenC: Oct 25 2016, 03:05 PM |

QUOTE(azamunekurone @ Oct 25 2016, 11:13 PM) nice and stylo ken! nothing stylo about it, it's all out of necessity, I need 9-10inch hand position raise, BMX stem + BMX handlebar is the only solution. quill that long will be too flimsy…u dont need those megarange casette anymore. its time to upgrade to road ratio casette Also, this 53cm top tube frame is 3cm too short, a slight tilt of the handlebar kow tim, don't have to look for 270mm long quill with 150mm long stem. Two birds with one stone. My legs are not strong like yours, still need my chap ayam megarange cogset to climb. also, it is great tool for upgrading my lungs. Will keep them until 1000km or when they break, whichever comes later. Must look at ROI 1st ler. prefer to use that money for a chap ayam hear rate monitor. If speed is one's sole uncompromising purpose, one would buy a kapcai, it's cheaper than the Tern nobe or verge. Push the kapcai when you feel like working out. its as portable as one can get.
or one can upgrade one's legs to go as fast as sifu Azam or faster.... weedy leg is still weedy no matter what one ride. BTW, bicycle land speed record is held by a small wheel bicycle. |

QUOTE(junwong @ Nov 8 2016, 12:52 PM) hi, may i knw mongoose folding bike quality consider ok? previously i got 1 xds folding bike but stolen by someone, now looking a budget bike for replacement!!! it's hard to say, your budget may not be my budget, your ok may not be ok for me. some people will die with anything lesser than ultegra, others will be head over heel with Chimano 3speed.Go for a test drive and ask yourself. if you really can't tell even if you try, any bike Will be fine for you because you are good enough to ride any bike or bad enough that any bike won't make any difference. |
