I am looking for a pair of leather boots that would last a long time.

It can be dressy or casual. But most important is the comfort once broken in.

Ohya, any tips on how to get more comfortable wearing leather boots? Do you guys put baby powder inside to prevent sweating too much?

Budget?
Long lasting would be viberg if u have unlimited budget. Take the shell cordovan one. That leather should last quite a while, and u can resole the boots too.

Exotic ones and got unlimited budget? Go for white kloud.

something bang for your buck? well redwing is one....

if u willing to spend a bit higher u can go for whites, chippewa, nicks...

whites got nice semi dress boots.

or try trickers. old company with good track records.

if u willing to try indonesian made and cheap but good quality... try sagara....

the boots im recommended is from the guys that i know wearing the said boots themselves. if u ask me. i only have 3 pairs of boots so if u wanna know about it, i only can comment it

im familiar with timberland but not the boots the shoes and i think i got like a couple pairs of them, eventhou the leather still good but the sole wears out easily. If im not mistaken timberland is as comfortable when u wear it and to break in is kindda not hard and not time consuming..

its kindda tough actually to break a red wing... i own an iron ranger and i kindda need sometimes to break and adjust to it. its my ride boots now... i cant afford to wreck my other two boots.... its too dear to me...

I cannot stand breakin process, I always put in orthodontic insoles and they always certainly make them feel better.

Dress boots I like quick lace. Custom made go with indo recommendation.

Redwing iron ranger etc hard to find good deals around.

Or you can hunt down AE.

Or try wolverine 1000 mile

lol no thanks bro. not my style. after some forum members recommended me like red wings and I found wolverine 1k also.

Now still thinking of the pros and cons about them.

If anyone owns both or either one of the pairs. then maybe can give me some advise on which is better for comfort.

Iron ranger maybe around 1200.
Not sure what timberlands u got but in general they cost more.

Timberlands are glue constructed while redwing are Goodyear welt
Timberland made in China, red wing made in USA

Breakin - not shoe trees. Shoe tree is used to maintain shape

not really thick actually. the red wing sock is not as thick as u think but it helps from blister on the back of the foot and u need to get used to the ankle restriction since its a bit high and the thick leather will give u hard time and it will take sometime till the leather fully break in and for u to get used with the height of the boot. after u achieved all that yeah its a fun boot to wear.

Timberland markup really high in Asia not really worth the money.
My winter timberland boots only cost me usd$50+, north face also around that price.

At times Kickstarter can find good deals on boots, but not many enjoy the long wait

yeah. timberlands are cheapper. thats why it is an upgrade for me. I went with the timberland signature boots wheat colour... actually mine is not really a boot....but chukka boots? thats what the salesperson told me.

Cause I felt uncomfortable wearing it 6 inch high. It definitely made my legs look short since I am only 168cm in height. LOL

Red wing iron rangers on models look so damn awesome LOL rclxub.gif wonder if I can bring the beauty of the boots out

Haha I am kinda thinking about red wings iron ranger already. But my wallet don't seem to agree with me.

Maybe I save up for a few months to get it ba. Then again. I only can wear during weekends since it is not suitable for office wear.

Come to think of it, once I started working I don't get to wear all my t shirts, shorts and other casual clothing and accessories.

Kinda waste though

Get one made in China or Portugal or Dominican Republic and price will be lower. Made in USA, UK, Spain with leather made in developed countries pay up!

Goodyear welt in general also cost more, you can replace sole when it wear out. Your timberland, sole worn out means throw away shoes.

Sorry don't own one, but read around for reviews

Own cheap timberland and north face for snow
Wolverine 1883 and a cheap Cole Hann for daily abuse.
Also have that Brooklyn boots
Timberland and red wing safety boots
Just score that Allen Edmonds.

Hope next year can find some red wing mock toe and stuff in their annual tent sale. See if pal willing to help me out.

If u like European style try. These are GYW made in China and finished in Spain iirc. High QC. A lot of fans.

Wolverine 1883 has a rubber sole? But you do have a lot of boots already. haha.

If I wanna count all my shoes, sandals and flip flops... I think also not as much as your total pairs of boots. I also thought of meermins & allen edmonds before too.. but wolverine & red wings gives me more of a rugged feel to them.

I wont say timberlands are cheap since they are priced almost as high as red wings and wolverines. I dont know about the other shoes/ boots that timberland offers but the signature wheat 6 inch boot is good quality stuff.

if i may add, i own both RW and W1K and my thoughts on them:

RW IR
- for rough use - i can walk in the rain and puddle of water without care
- requires breaking in (a painful process)
- more casual and rugged

W1K (i own the addison wingtip)
- leather out sole, quite slippery and not really for outdoor
- no breaking in required, soft leather
- looks dressier

so really depends on the "look" that you are looking for. if you feel the above are too expensive, why not try clarks leather boots? handsome looking, durable and quite reasonably priced.

btw, i purchased the above during sales, so about at least 40% off. RW at nordstrom and W1K at eastdane.. based on luck and patience..

If you're looking for something more formal instead of rugged, you should look at some other styles like chelseas instead.

Well, there's another monkey boot from Thorogood selling in a much lower price than the one I posted. Should be less than 900 but then it's not CXL. Anyway, you still can expect good craftsmanship from Thorogood for the lower price boot thou.

obenaufs are popular but depending on type of leather it may change the color of the leather. Alot of Red Wing want to keep the original color shy away from obenaufs.

google around make sure it doesnt affect your boots if U care about color

It did change color a bit but not too obvious for my IR. Both of my vibergs are on the heavyweight leather especially the 310 last and using obernaufs means i dont need to apply regularly ( i apply it around 3 months per apply or 6 months if im too lazy) and the leather still good.

Venitian cream i use it if i really wanna shine my viberg cxl.

this will be my go to place when I buy. too many products from Tarrago bought directly from them and they kind enough to give leather balm and stuff free.

Anyone heard of Tom Rich Shoes before? Malaysian brand, made in Indonesia.

Got a bit excited because it came up when I searched for handwelted. Turns out that was because they use the term "handmade leather welt" lol.

But hey, RM590 for Goodyear welted boots is cheap.

MTO white's are like 1.8k are the not as good as viberg?

Interesting comparison
http://www.styleforum.net/t/209029/viberg-...-any-experience

QUOTE
I have bought and own boots from Viberg, White's, and Wesco. I was a Red Wings guy until I got older and my feet got weird...I have very "lean" feet and extremely skinny ankles, but my foot flares way out on the outside at the ball. Skechers makes some sneakers that fit perfect, so you may know what I mean. Long story short, I had to go with custom fit bootmakers.

Everybody has different wants and needs so opinions on each boot brand will differ. Here's what I have experienced so far:

White's:
-strengths --> craftsmanship, custom fit, service, leather choices, turn around time
-weaknesses --> boot choices...only lace-up with a couple different toe options
-things to note --> "arch-ease" design takes mucho breaking-in. Be patient with White's boots...like 2-3 months patient and you will be well rewarded.

Wesco:
-strengths --> custom fit, service, website, marketing, boot choices(pull-ups with multiple toe options, lace-ups, oxford), craftsmanship (just OK, but not White's or Viberg...but still damn good compared to most others)
-weaknesses --> leather choices are limited, very popular bootmaker so turn around time is long...12 weeks long
-things to note --> can be very workbootish from a style perspective and their craftsmanship kind of aligns to a workboot mentality

Viberg:
-strengths --> craftsmanship!!!, boot choices!!!(pull-ups with multiple toe options, lace-ups, oxfords, hikers, multiple last options, you name it), leather choices, turn around time, style...style....style
-weaknesses --> custom fit just so-so (too busy I think), website could use some help
-things to note --> very mom and pop...16 or so employees and they are busy as hell now so service is suffering a little...give them a break though. Brett Viberg is awesome and usually responds to sound requests on his blog

Leaders in different categories...IM MY OPINION ONLY, SO DON"T TAKE THIS AS GOSPEL:

Craftsmanship - White's...mmm, Viberg...no White's...too close to call. Both are incredible!
Custom Fit - Wesco with White's a close second
Boot Choices - Viberg with Wesco a close second
Service - Wesco with White's a close second. Viberg will get back there once business settles
Leather Choices - White's with Viberg a close second
Rebuild Option - all are equal
Price - White's, then Wesco...Viberg's Street Collection is mucho expensive, but their work boots are the best priced...go figure

I'm done now...sorry

yes, i thought that looks like loose grain... but maybe it's what bison looks like... I'm not sure...

tbh, just bought viberg to see what's the hype... also white and nicks seems too complicated to order...

According to the horween faq bison is so

A lot of $$ for me to look at hype. Complex to order but is labor worth the 1.6k diff?

I may look into whites in the future as I don't make that kinda money in 1 hour.

i dont have whites so i cant comment on it.

did chat with a friend of mine who have both Whites and vibergs. he likes both of them thou in price wise he'll say whites are a good choice while vibergs craftsmanship viberg wins on that section.

i love the back heels contour (looks so wild -wild west cowboy boots) on whites but i have a fetish for the viberg 310 last....

last time whites can be bought around rm1.4k if im not mistaken

i bought the viberg for rm2.8k 2 years ago plus shipping so yeah....

After digging around various forums there is no real consensus on nick, whites, viberg. Service or work boots meant to take beating and not baby.

Most impt to enjoy and wear those boots!

Due to inflation price of boots will only go up.

Boot collecting... I am not criticizing how u spend. I just would picture myself buying it and wearing them in snow or what.

And There are sneakers collectors and those can flip for nice $$. Profit better than S&P 500

Again I am not saying it's not to be a hobby. No need to guess if ok or not ok.
Some ppl collect pics of ppl they bang.
Some collect cars
Some collect junk ppl threw out.
Some marriage licenses.
Hobby can be anything...
One have freedom to do what they please so long it's within their means.

They happy and not using my money or space and they happy why not! Go ahead welcome.

I was just thinking out loud will I get this... Must have come out wrongly and make it seem like I am insinuating something.

Not really lah. I wear boots most of the times. Does not feel hot. Maybe most ppl think wearing leather boots will make ur feet hot personally for me its not really true. PVC made boots maybe, leather boots? Personally no for me.

Even for the heavyweight leather boots i dont feel any discomfort in terms of hot/warm.

Cheaper boot alternatives to RW and Wolverines

https://thursdayboots.com/products/brown-captain-boot

or should I go for sagara boots?

http://sagaraindonesia.com/site/product/li...rve-50-deposit/

both of these two companies do not have retail store to try them on.

i would go for sagara since the description of the boots quite detailed.

thou MTO sagara boots gonna be around 6 to 8 months (probably more) to be completed.

as for thursday boots, a friend of mine said the leather is from local, not horween leather which gonna cost u a lot more

Maybe you are right. The reviews from Thursday boots company said its value for money but the leather seems cheap-ish.

not too sure about sagara as not many reviews available online. I really wanna try them on before purchasing but that is not an option.

From Sagara's Instagram, it seems they do handwelting for their Handgrade boots. Not sure which ones those are though, don't see it on their website.

A friend of mine did a MTO with sagara. Catspaw sole and horsehide leather if im not mistaken. He waited for almost a year and constant bombardment of emails later, he got the boots. I quote his word when asked about the build and quality as "decent".
