Budget? Long lasting would be viberg if u have unlimited budget. Take the shell cordovan one. That leather should last quite a while, and u can resole the boots too.
Exotic ones and got unlimited budget? Go for white kloud.

something bang for your buck? well redwing is one....
if u willing to spend a bit higher u can go for whites, chippewa, nicks...
whites got nice semi dress boots.
or try trickers. old company with good track records.
if u willing to try indonesian made and cheap but good quality... try sagara....
the boots im recommended is from the guys that i know wearing the said boots themselves. if u ask me. i only have 3 pairs of boots so if u wanna know about it, i only can comment it

QUOTE(BacktoBasics @ Nov 25 2015, 12:45 AM) how is redwing after breaking in? I own a pair of timberlands myself. but looking more towards a dressy boots. which pair of redwings you have? Iron ranger seems gooding im familiar with timberland but not the boots the shoes and i think i got like a couple pairs of them, eventhou the leather still good but the sole wears out easily. If im not mistaken timberland is as comfortable when u wear it and to break in is kindda not hard and not time consuming.. its kindda tough actually to break a red wing... i own an iron ranger and i kindda need sometimes to break and adjust to it. its my ride boots now... i cant afford to wreck my other two boots.... its too dear to me...

QUOTE(BacktoBasics @ Nov 25 2015, 08:46 AM) wah... the leather on red wings are so tough and hard? hmmm GG... thinking about iron ranger but from your experience it doesnt seem to be comfortable to wear. you have 2 more boots that are more expensive than your iron ranger? that you couldnt afford to damage them? I guess you save your haircut money to buy those boots LOL hahaha well i got some money to spend last time so i guess why dont i spend on a boot... then got sale... bought another one of similar brand.... both of the boots are awesome and needs minimal TLC

QUOTE(BacktoBasics @ Nov 26 2015, 09:27 AM) hmm you wear thick socks to break it in? ohya will it help if I buy the shoe trees to break in the boots? Does it expedite the process? not really thick actually. the red wing sock is not as thick as u think but it helps from blister on the back of the foot and u need to get used to the ankle restriction since its a bit high and the thick leather will give u hard time and it will take sometime till the leather fully break in and for u to get used with the height of the boot. after u achieved all that yeah its a fun boot to wear. QUOTE(patryn33 @ Nov 26 2015, 11:04 AM) Iron ranger maybe around 1200. Not sure what timberlands u got but in general they cost more i think timberland boots sells around rm700++ to rm900++. Iron ranger sell around rm1080 at Red Wing store at pertama complex if im not mistaken. or they did raised the price again... dunnue... This post has been edited by g3n0c|d3: Nov 26 2015, 11:18 AM

QUOTE(patryn33 @ Nov 26 2015, 11:43 AM) Timberland markup really high in Asia not really worth the money. My winter timberland boots only cost me usd$50+, north face also around that price. At times Kickstarter can find good deals on boots, but not many enjoy the long wait if want to buy cheap timberland... end year sale is the best bet.... i dont know about boots but most of my timberland i bought is less than rm400...

Well i dont blame him though. I also dont like chelsea boots and love more classic and rugged looking boots such as iron ranger, viberg 310 last, chippewas, whites semi dress...
Oh i also like monkey boots like lonewolf linesman. Looks very rugged indeed

QUOTE(BacktoBasics @ Dec 2 2015, 03:09 PM) quality probably is low i guess Ah thats when u are wrong. The quality is great despite made in indonesia. The material is usually top quality and the artisans are very good. Got a friend of mine custom made a sagara (horse butt leather) and lets just say he got it for a very-very cheap price.
