I want to play my violin, but the sounds is a bit too high. And since I'm not living alone, it's going to be troublesome for others. I'm thinking to make my room soundproof. Anyone had any experience with building a soundproof room? Would love to get some insight on how did you guys do it

QUOTE(Everdying @ Nov 17 2015, 12:42 PM) Yeah. That's the idea. So that the noise won't reach outside the roomQUOTE(6216 @ Nov 17 2015, 12:46 PM) Hi bro. High five šI might go to shopping and get something done this weekend. QUOTE(empire @ Nov 17 2015, 01:09 PM) Do we really have to google about this topic and then help you? I see. I didn't know about that. Thanks for the insight. Some friend of mine are suggesting egg cartons. Seems like usable, but looks a bit ugly. Haha. And not sure how long can it last

Ducktape who on where again? Haha
I think I'll give it a try with tapestry and sound-proof foam. The door is my main concern, with those two I think I can make it work |

Cover walls with egg cartons. Paper type. Overlap it.

QUOTE(Jacxon @ Nov 18 2015, 07:40 PM) continue playing till you get complain lo..if no one complain then no need soundproofing anymore Haha. I rarely angry in real life. I never had a room that's too deafeningly silent. That would be awesome if I can make it. I'm half psycho anyway just kidding TS dont angree... hehe if you sound proof already wont it make the room too deafeningly silent? a room that can make you physcotic |

First, some comments here are not right.
Acoustic treatment and soundproofing are completely 2 separate matters. Acoustic treatment - makes the room sound better. In general, treatments such as wall panels, soft surfaces and bass traps. Sound Proofing - isolating the sound source and avoid it leaking out of the enclosed area. In general, isolation to avoid vibrations travelling out of the room, such as building a suspended room inside a room. |

QUOTE(ciwi1166 @ Nov 19 2015, 11:10 AM) Not gonna argue with you but I would stick to my statement. Engineering approach when you identify these 2 issues are different.Sound proofing is not a subset of acoustic treatment as sound proofing has got to do with vibration isolation whereas acoustic treatment deals with the vibrations response within the room. In your argument I believe you meant by having particular frequencies absorbed, it reduces the energy leakage outside, which is partly true but does not mean sound proofing is a subset of acoustic treatment. By saying soundproofing is a subset of acoustic treatment, it means you can draw a Venn diagram with Acoustic Treatment and its subset is soundproofing (which in fact you cant). |

lol not egg box, egg box works similar as acoustic foam, its only reduce wave bouncing , if wan do some sound proof u need 3-5 layers of walls at lease or double layer of glass with vacuum treat between, acoustic treatment and soundproof alot different.
acoustic treatment (sticking egg box / acoustic foam ) only wil make ur room sounds better , and easier for recording , doesn't help much with sound proof. |
