I got an overall 7 without any study which I regret a little. Got a 7 for speaking and 9 for reading. Both writing and listening got 6.5. Topic for writing caught me a little as I've spent some precious time thinking what to write and ended up insufficient.

Just to check, do we really need to have a JD for employer reference? Any techniques to get it from my current employer without raising any alarms lol

regardless from HR or your boss, either way they still need to know why are they writing that letter for you tongue.gif
cos you might never know if the case officer decides to give them a call for verification, and you definitely wouldn't want anything to screw up at that stage

Hi guys, can anyone share your experience on settling down in Melbourne. I'm moving to Melbourne on coming November but still not yet decided where to stay. I'm in dilemma to choosing between studio and share house.
Personally I prefer to stay with other people. At least I have someone to talk when I'm home.
I learned that sharing house is illegal in Australia e.g. if no proper agreement signed or the bond is not submitted to authority. Anyone can answer me?
Any advice from you if I wanted to share house with somebody - any procedure/checklist I should follow in order to protect my own interests.

Comparing to share house, renting a studio is another option. But I thought that will be costly. My new office is located somewhere along the St Kilda Road, I'm aiming for apartments surrounding that area, specifically South Yarra, South Melbourne and maybe Docklands. The rental is not cheap plus I need to pay the bills myself and possibly need to buy new furniture.

Any advice is much appreciated!

There is nothing illegal about sharing a house in Australia.

If you are renting a room from the owner then it is perfectly legitimate. Just ask them to complete a simple contract with you stating each persons rights, responsibilities and terms. This will protect you and your bond. You don't need a solicitor just makes sure its witnessed by someone. Here is a standard contract which you could use http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/pdfs/ten...y_agreement.pdf

It is generally forbidden in a rental contract for someone to sub let part of a property they are leasing. Eg. if you were to rent off someone else who is renting the property. But it is really them, not you that is breaking the contract. However its a bit murky and probably not a good long term option.

I was once living in a share house where only 1 of the original 5 people on the contract were still in the house. Its fine if everyone trust each other and are reasonable people, but can get ugly quick.

If you want to get into a rental share house then you would need to be added to the lease and contribute your share of bond. Have a look on www.gumtree.com.au for people looking for room mates. Gumtree is also a great place to find furniture, sometimes for free!

Good luck in Melbourne. Should be rather nice until about May then its a terrible place biggrin.gif

the majority of m'sian migrating out is the result of rapid deterioration in the economy and living standard. when you have the deputy minister, Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, coming out and say all Malaysians who had moved abroad are unpatriotic. that doesn't help at all. the last thing on people's mind are patriotic when they find it difficult to cope with their daily lives. rising food prices and with everything else, those people who intend to migrate will not think twice. and when you factor in with the current political destabilization, massive corruption in all levels and widespread crime waves, nothing the government can do or say will turn the tides around.

was he joking when he said, "what brain drain? there is no brain drain here."

The Fruit Picking Scam: The Growing Australian Visa Scam in Malaysia
Bersih Sydney·Sunday, September 11, 2016

The Salvation Army Australia recently reached out to Bersih Sydney seeking assistance with the shocking case of 34 Malaysians, which included two minors, detained at the Villawood Immigration Detention Centre who were awaiting deportation after having been caught for working as fruit pickers on a blueberry farm in Coffs Coast without valid visas. Hoping to help in any way possible, a member of our team had since then been working closely with the Salvation Army and the Malaysian Consulate in Sydney. It was soon clear that these illegal workers had fallen victim to a scam that is becoming increasingly prevalent. The seriousness of the matter prompted the Australian High Commission in Malaysia to issue a warning:

this is not the 1st time. it's been many cases since i migrate here. previous cases i heard is a group of 12 who're blocked and sent back the next day. they paid RM6000+air ticket. once they arrive, they'll pick up by a van straight to the farm. i dunno how many times this have to continue but i'm pretty sure they'll never learn.

please, please, please....go thru the correct route. double check again and again. no such thing as getting a work visa for you to fork out from your pocket. please, don't become refugee yourself or watever reason to jump queue getting a visa here.

Anyone here did the Assessment for Engineer Australia? I've received a response:

"Please provide a third party proof of employment. The documents requested should be from an organisation OTHER than your employer but it NEEDS to include the name of employing company. This can be tax or social security reports from the government or superannuation report from your fund.
From Malaysia the best option is an EFP report together with an official letter linking the company's EPF number with its name."

I've provided EA form, Company Payslip and Company Reference Letter.

What else do they mean? Help please T^T

Is there a name in your bank statement saying what company has deposited money into your account? Like mine will have the company's name when they pay my monthly salary. Guess that's one way to prove it as well.

IT industry is not good.

The best way to get jobs is via networking.

If u r relying on Seek and just online applications, it is extremely unlikely u can get a job.

I mean each recruiter receives hundreds of applications per position from all over the place.

What would make the recruiter shortlist or even, look, at your resume?

The other good way is to find a good recruiter , present yourself and take any short term role they offer be it 3 days or couple of weeks and build from there.

There is no such thing as a 'good' recruitment company.

It depends very much on which industry u r in, the positions they have, and the relationships they have with their client.

If u go to seek.com.au, u can pretty much gauge who the big recruiters in yr industry by the number of positions they list.
