QUOTE(Nemesis1980 @ Jan 29 2016, 12:35 PM) Majority are male. Malaysian is benefit on bilingual or trilingual. Any chance guys heading over down under this year be able land a job? or like usual start jobfinding for 1 whole year before landing an actual job you are looking for. Instead of jumping from one restaurant to next (or retail as well). That 1 year for those heading over would be like shit, deep shit.Be good on your skills and talent. Think out of a box. Be more creative then you'll survive thru the hardtime. Salary not that great now. Living cost is skyrocketing especially utilities. groceries, cars, gadgets and internet is good. rental or mortgage, council fees, utilities is shit. Wonder how many members here are heading down under this year? |

QUOTE(tatty89 @ Jun 3 2016, 12:01 PM) Agent submitted my EOI after Engineers Australia finally approved my skills assessment. Bad news is my nominated occupation has reached its ceiling and need to wait until July 2016 for new quota for 2016-2017 program. Even worse news is that visa fees will be reviewed in July and most likely will increase. Fingers crossed I dont have to wait to long to receive an invitation What are the documents you prepared for the Engineer Australia Assessment ? I'm preparing for assessment now and wanna take some precautions. >.< |

QUOTE(Nemesis1980 @ Jul 29 2016, 11:44 AM) Hi guys, bit of out topic but just sharing my experience here. Well said. Well said Lots of Malaysians particularly if you think Australia is a great place to retire and problem free, please make sure you do your homework and some research before you come here. Nothing wrong about Australia and the policies in place for years. Happens that mostly Malaysian thinks that it's a heaven here. The mentality has to change when you step you feet here. It's a totally different country as you guys know and has to respect the law and the customs and culture here. 2ndly, please bear in mind, if you're rich in Malaysia, thought you're living like datuk or datin and can live like a king or queen here with kakak, sorry, Australia might not be the place for you. Everyone have the same level. Don't ever try to use your Malaysia ah beng ah seng style to control everyone here. Don't try to appoint someone to work like hell just help you to gain PR status. It doesn't work here. So far, i encounter quite a number of business visa status Malaysians here who thought they're rich with some millions of ringgit in hand and act like very babi (Cantonese). Complaining here and there and telling stories how good they are in Malaysia with big house and money. If you think Malaysia is better place, please pack your bags and go back. Please, you've no place here. It's very sickening when i encounter those people. That's why i always 'char' them....don't like ah? go back lor....their answer is 'dun wan lar, here better'....then shut the f*ck up. Stop complaining about how big your house in malaysia, here the house very old, not big enough....then build your own lar....their answer is 'aiya, cannot find job yet, cannot get loan....hey? thought you're rich??? 3rdly, if you think you're rich and wife no need to work, make sure your pocket is deep enough. Some of them telling me wife never work in Malaysia, now need to work here, then don't work lar! Kids no one to take care, send to daycare lar! Don't tell me daycare not good or watsoever. Daycare here is better than Malaysia. My kids all in daycare, socialised with local kids and well-interact. What makes your kids so special that your kids don't mix with daycare kids? becoz of poor and dirty kids? even my GM (angmoh) kids also grown up in daycare. So? your kids is family and our kids are not? 4thly, learn to respect everyone here. Not label based on financial status. I knew some friends and becoming very close mates (Indon) who their parents manufacture (licensed manufacturer) for Prada. But they're very humble couple. Got some rich mates who really treat you as true friend and don't even bother your financial background but sharing their views and life and disclose their personal problem coz they trust you. And please note that these ppl are not Malaysian. Learn to respect and be humble. Don't act like got few millions ringgit ah chi ah cho like very rich. You come here is nothing! My boss from China with USD 1billion turnover, bring us to dinner almost every 2 weeks. Humble person and everytime coming back here to Perth giving everyone of us presents (AUD 300 valued) coz he remember our hardwork. I got no money but my brain to contribute. A good rich boss doesn't calculative not like our Malaysian boss who ganasai, giving professional services for few projects and don't pay a single cent. And please, not all Chinese boss are so bad or stingy like the media reported. I'm consider myself lucky as my boss appreciate my hardwork. Will follow him to China for business trip for a week. Anything happen prompting this sudden but thoughtful share? XD What about white collar workers in Malaysia going over in their 20s-30s? Any advise? |

Anyone know, for Engineers, if you want to have your Work experience recognized by ENGINEER AUSTRALIA, must the letter from the company chopped with "Certified true copy" or just using letter head would suffice?

QUOTE(tatty89 @ Aug 4 2016, 01:02 PM) EA form is from the company, you can't use it. I've given bank statements, income tax (acknowledgement receipt) and EPF letter. Out of all the documents I submitted, Engineer Australia only accepted the EPF letter. We need all these documents: [bank statements, income tax (acknowledgement receipt) and EPF letter] for Engineer Australia? Is this to verify your employment, or for identification purposes. If you plan to translate the BM EPF statement to English, you won't be able to do it at any EPF office (I've asked the officers). If you want language centers to do it, they can but they can't insert EPF logo. So, best solution I can suggest is request EPF to write the letter for you. I got the letter on the spot after pestering them at the EPF office for days. Hope this helps. I've just submitted and paid the hefty fee If not complete, sure assessment got delayed right |

QUOTE(z21j @ Aug 9 2016, 07:39 AM) The reason I moved over to Aus was that I wish to own a property(that I call it "Home") + car whereby I can truly "enjoy life"! I wouldn't be able to own a property + car (probably in 10 yrs time). I can fulfill my wish list in Aus like within a year time cause the property+car here are relatively cheaper. I guess after all the trouble you had to apply for migration and gotten it, give some time to settle and adapt to the new environment. From a bustling city like SG to a slow and relaxed place in Australia, I do agree its not easy shift, unless you've been dreading the busy lifestyle since the beginning. My uncle who lived in SG for a long long long time dreaded Australian life, as though he's lived in for a year in Melbourne, he still can't shake of his busy lifestyle in SG. Stayed on only for the sake of his two daughters' education. Only way to fulfill his busy lifestyle is to stay right in the city, only then his satisfaction increased by, like, 10-20%. I find Aus is too relaxing, the quality of the outcome is always bare minimum, and most important - I'm not a "parrot". People who are outspoken here tend to have higher opportunities. I've seen locals shouted at PRC visitors and say "why are you speaking in foreign language when you are in English-speaking country!". Go dating? All shops here close early. So, can only stay at home watch movie/youtube. I stayed in Richmond suburb, most of my colleagues stay in South/South-east Melb. At night, I would not be able to hang out with friends which I could do so back then in SG/KL/Osaka. I came to Aus with 10% "paycut" because I wanted to fulfill the 2 yrs stay for my subclass 190 visa. The very obvious reason that I applied Aus PR was - I thought Aus would have better career opportunities with work-life balance. I can finish my work for the day within hours and the rest of my time - lowyatnet. Yet, I was advised by my peers that I should take it easy and should not "ask for more troubles" by completing fast. No offend. If I have a family and I were 40 this year, I'm certainly like this kind of life. I'm just struggling between resign+go back KL/SG now or look for another job in Sydney (busier city)+resign. Anyway, all these are probably just happened to me. Don't rush to go back from just arriving. |

QUOTE(shazam7 @ Sep 12 2016, 08:19 AM) There are two types of share house, some where ur name is added to the lease. This is 100% legal n u will be afforded protection if anything goes wrong. But it is harder to get as u need to get approved, and more expensive. My parents were just in Melbourne few weeks ago and also heard Docklands is a ghosttown now. Its pretty funny. Pretty much all who invested are Mainland Chinese, all for Investment purposes. Real estate agents who promote properties for investment in Melbourne also mostly promote Docklands. The other type is cash only.Generally much cheaper but illegal. Typically a person renovates a house, then rents out all the rooms. With this type of rental, there is no protection. In either cases, get a room that can be locked. Place yr valuables in a safe spot. Take out renters insurance. Renting studios is typically 100-200 a week more than renting a room. The more the privacy the more the expense. U have also chosen three of the most expensive areas to live in Melb. I would not recommend Docklands as u will find it painful to get to St Kilda Rd by public transport (Walk, then swap trams a few times). Its also a ghost town (not many ppl live there). With Sth Yarra, public transport to St Kilda Rd can be quite limited as u only take the no. 8 tram to St Kilda Rd (takes long time as Toorak Rd is v congested) and swap trams again. There are certain pockets in Sth Melb such as in the Dorcas St area which may be more suitable and slightly more budget friendly. However if u do want to save more on rent look at St Kilda East or Windsor. Its a shame such a modern nice looking area in melbourne City turned out this way. |

QUOTE(shazam7 @ Sep 14 2016, 08:40 AM) Yes, I think these investors figure its much safer to park their money in these apartments rather than to leave it to the whims and mercy of their government.... I only remember Richmond of its Vietnamese street and superb nice Pho Pity the shopowners, half empty, half constantly changing shops. I really hate going to this area cos of the feeling of failure. I think Richmond and Southbank is not much better off... Man i miss Melbourne. Now working on my Engineer Aus assessement before apply for PR. All is left is Ielts. But the determination to study IELTS... really need more of it |

QUOTE(daylight_dancer @ Sep 14 2016, 08:26 PM) Dont think you need to study for IELTS lah bro. Should be fine. Most Malaysians have issues with the speaking part, mostly because theyre way way too direct (one sentence answers). Hahaha i didn't study for writing last time, ended up getting 6.5. Struggled with writing the most. Speaking 7.0, Reading & Listening 8.5. Failed at one 6.5. I think I membebel too much though hahahaha. |

Anyone here did the Assessment for Engineer Australia? I've received a response:
"Please provide a third party proof of employment. The documents requested should be from an organisation OTHER than your employer but it NEEDS to include the name of employing company. This can be tax or social security reports from the government or superannuation report from your fund. From Malaysia the best option is an EFP report together with an official letter linking the company's EPF number with its name." I've provided EA form, Company Payslip and Company Reference Letter. What else do they mean? Help please T^T |

QUOTE(Soony @ Sep 20 2016, 07:11 AM) Is there a name in your bank statement saying what company has deposited money into your account? Like mine will have the company's name when they pay my monthly salary. Guess that's one way to prove it as well. Any other documents that can be accepted by them? If not need find translator for this KWSP statement. Sad that government doesn't offer it in English. |

189 visa and 489 visa, its better to apply 189 directly right? In stead of rush to 489? 先苦后甜?
Do employers accept 489? Its quite risky to take this visa i guess. This post has been edited by samo1390: Sep 27 2016, 09:56 AM |

QUOTE(z21j @ Nov 2 2016, 01:34 PM) I experienced greater work-life balance in Singapore + Higher disposable income + don't need to knee down for career progression purpose. Last time when I hold junior mngt position in SG firm, I can actually decide on my own in term of what time to go home @ meet my friends/family. My office to home literally < 30 minutes of travelling time (peak period maybe up to 1 hr max). Lunch hour can meet up clients/ colleagues etc.. I guess thats how ang mo squeeze your time to achieve work-life balance. Finish stuff during work hours - more time spend at home with family. Instead of asians mindset of doing OT like sg and jp. But is it because of the heavy workload that doesn't allow bonding time with colleagues? Or they only do bonding on friday drinking sessions? In Aus, I woke up at 5am, travel to CBD by public transport takes about 1 hour ++ (non peak hour, bus+train, lower frequency). I don't drive to CBD to avoid traffic jam in the evening and save for paying parking fee (very expensive, can be up to $80 per day). I end my work at 5pm but reach home at about 7pm due to various reasons. Lunch hour, eat in front of computer/laptop. No bonding with colleagues. The only bonding activities with colleagues would be the drinking session on every Friday. I'm in the finance and investment industry. Say I have "x" amount of workloads; I still need to "rush" and complete the works during working hours, whereas in Sg, I can take my time to complete them (although I may need to overtime, but I'm not so mentally stress to "rush" them). When I rush for the analysis/report, I tend to make mistake(s) and during presentation, it doesn't look good. Yes, I'm "busier" here as compare to when I was in Sg. The only good thing is that I can spend quality time with friend/family during weekend/public holiday, just like yesterday I went for hiking with friends. But yes, it's not good enough. I'm pressure during the weekdays for rushing the works (and I just took lunch like 30 minutes ago @ 4pm here). Too busy until I forget the lunch hr. Well, I got to continue working now. |

QUOTE(z21j @ Nov 3 2016, 10:19 AM) Hmm. Both my gf and I felt that Melb & Sydney life too "slack" (or better phrase - work-life balance/slower pace), and we don't want our kids to live in such an environment, at least this is our mindset at the moment. Kids here too pampered/protected, and (most of the) younger generation nowadays no longer that proactive in jobs/their occupations. Whoa, 2021 aged 31, meaning only 26 this year? Achieved this much already. Pretty awesome feat i'd say. Perhaps mindset of our kids would also depend on how we raise them, and the school environment they're in.Just a bit of my background: I was raised in an environment whereby both parent are working. Didn't have much time spent with them, but I treasure every single moment that they set aside their works and spend a day out with me (when I was young). Both my parent never work on Sunday (unless they are out for business trip), and Im looking forward every Sunday back them. I admire them very much, being such a successful businessman & lawyer in their career. If they were to make a migration move last time, maybe I wont be so appreciate the family times that I have with them, and may take things for granted. Looking at how successful they are in life, this motivates me to a person like them too. My relationship with my parent = "very close". I've been moving out and staying alone for about 8 years, and every weekend I will still give them a call for chit chat more than >2 hours without fail over the past 8 yrs. I always take the middle approach. Pros and cons. People here have been sharing about more family time, more quality lifestyle, etc... I completely agree. I think my case is probably only 5% among the population, i.e I that kind of people that will appreciate more when I've less (family time), and will take it for granted when I've more (family time). Really struggling. Spent so much money (S$12k, by engaging agent + state sponsorship etc) to get PR here, and ended up not sure if this is a right choice to raise my family here. What worst, I bought a property at Southbank (under construction) and I still have abt 50% outstanding loan to be repaid. But I plan to keep the property here, and I will rent out upon TOP. I will re-consider further if I plan to come back and settle down here permanently by late 2020 (PR expires in June 2021), age 31 by then. I've been LYN member 8 yrs ago when I was a student, and occasionally I do look at what I wrote in the past. Hopefully 4 yrs later I can "respond" to this post and see if I've changed my mindset. |
