maybe you can look for mikrotik router, have been used for few years no problem and vy stable. no reboot require/slow/hang.
the important thing is you no need take the risk to flash third-party firmware to get the best performance router.

guys ... seems like the RT-AC68U or any AC range routers is the recommended item here ... but does our device support that range already??

i.e 2 year old laptop, 3 year old smartphone,

and another question, RT-AC68U is a modem also ?? can key in unifi username and pw?

It's not a modem. It's a wireless router that needs gateway aka modem to function. You need to input your unifi username and password to get connected.

yea i mean can i input the username and pw into that RT-AC68U unit? if not ...

what you mean is ... like this? :

TM fiber to that greybox thingy -> a modem with unifi username and pw -> then only to RT-AC68U?

Asus RT-N14UHP or DIR-850L?

requirements:
1) connect up to 5-8 devices (smartphones & laptops)
2) gaming
3) streaming videos
4) house (2 floors)

Oh okay thanks, erm if i cant afford asus rt-ac55u then is the tp-link archer c7 good for double story house and can connect up to 15 devices? my house using the default modem for about 4 years already, always get lag spike
